Remy just grinned flirtatiously and flipped the sparking poker chip towards her. He could tell she had been getting a bit twitchy; he got the same way sometimes.
Crystal snorted and flicked a little crystal at it. The explosion was small, barely enough to ruffle her hair. But she did go to the trouble of forming a crystal and holding it for a few seconds before tossing it towards him.
Remy grinned and flicked one of the cards from up his sleeve. It hit the little crystal with a flash and a bang, creating a puff of smoke that quickly cleared. He pulled out his deck and casually gave it a flashy shuffle, energizing all of the cards.
"Care to play, chere?" |
Crystal grinned a bit. "I suppose that depends on the game this time," she said easily, stretching her arms over her head.
"No real game, chere," Remy replied easily. "Just workin' off some energy, non?"
"If you say so." But Crystal grinned as she flicked another lazy crystal, out in front of him this time.
Remy grinned back and flicked out a card to meet the crystal. The resulting explosion sparkled like fireworks, sparking and crackling a bit. Then he sent out three more cards in rapid succession.
Crystal hit all of them, grinning at the white and pink sparks that flew from each explosion. The next crystal she held on to for a few moments, energy swirling pink and silver inside. It was larger than the others she'd used so far, and she flicked it out ahead of them.
Remy saw that and charged the next card a bit more, as well, before letting it go. The resulting firework was much bigger and flashier, and it rained harmless little sparks on them for a few moments before they all burned out.
Crystal grinned at that. "Looks like you needed this as much as I did," she commented quietly, glancing over at him.
"Indeed," Remy replied, nodding a bit. "Blowin' off some steam's a good thing every few days. Less chance of an accident that way, non?"
Crystal shivered briefly, her muscles locking up for a few moments before she forced herself to keep moving. "Yeah," she muttered.
Remy didn't comment on the shudder. He knew what it had meant.
"Come on, chere," he said. "Gambit's headin' back, if you'd like to join." |
Crystal nodded after a moment. "Alright," she agreed quietly, already more subdued as they started walking back.
"What's eatin' at you, chere?" Remy asked as they moseyed back towards the mansion. "You're quiet all of a sudden."
Crystal shrugged. "Just general wear and tear," she said with a faint grin. "People, mainly."
"Care to talk about it?" Remy asked. "Been told Gambit's not a bad listener." He veered them off a bit, following a path around the mansion to give her time to think.
"It's just... frustrating," she said after a few moments. "Trying to get a job. I know Charles says I don't need one, but I do. And of course because of what I am, most places automatically refuse me." She grimaced.
Remy nodded as he listened.
"More often'n not, they will," he agreed. "Makes it hard for Gambit t' find honest work, too," He flicked his fingers absently, making a few pink sparks. "Charles'll let you stay, though, no matter if you find work or not. Per'aps he can help you find something." |
"No, he does enough already, and he has the little one. It'll just take me longer than I thought to find a decent job." Crystal shrugged.
"A little longer's alright," Remy reasoned. "Charles won' mind, I can guarantee that, chere."
"Charles has a heart of gold and would probably not say no to a serial killer if he said he was sorry." Crystal grinned though.
"You'd be surprised, chere," Remy replied. "T' protect the family, Gambit's seen Charles do some scary things to criminals."
"I'll believe that when I see it." Crystal shook her head a bit but kept walking.
"That's not somethin' you want to see, chere," Remy advised. "Makes a man nervous t' think about."
