"Nope," Remy agreed cheerfully. "But sometimes Gambit's lucky and finds an empty car, open for th' taking." He grinned. "Managed t' get through three whole states like that before, a few times."
"You're going to try to make a proper vagabond out of me, aren't you?" Crystal grinned as she finished changing. "You can turn around now."
"It's worth a try, chere," Remy teased as he turned around again. "Saves a bit of money, too, hoppin' a freighter."
"Very true." Crystal grinned and pulled back the covers. "I'll let you know if we hit my limit of semi-legal things."
Remy chuckled.
"That's fair," he said as he let her get comfortable first. |
Crystal grinned and then surprised herself with a yawn. She blinked a few times but was quick to get comfortable anyway.
Once she was comfortable, Remy changed out of his travel clothes and into something more comfy, and then settled in as well.
"Get some sleep, chere," he murmured as he turned off the light. "'S been a long day today, gonna be long tomorrow." |
"You too," Crystal murmured. "I need you awake enough to not get either of us flattened by a train."
"Train hoppin's easy," Remy murmured in return. "Just jump on before it gets movin' too fast. You'll see."
Crystal snorted disbelievingly, and then yawned again. "We'll see," she muttered, curling up on her side so she could get comfortable.
Remy grinned and relaxed. It didn't take long for him to fall asleep, either.
The next morning, he was up early. It was after dawn, but not much past, and once he was dressed he went downstairs to see about wrangling some breakfast for them both. |
Frank had left a note for him on the fridge in the back area, telling him he could forage around for whatever he could find. Frank himself was still happily in bed because he ran the bar until two or three in the morning.
Remy grinned. That was typical whenever he stopped at Frank's. He rummaged in the kitchen for a moment before pulling out a frying pan, some eggs, and some bacon. He knew how to cook a basic breakfast.
Crystal joined him downstairs a little bit later, already dressed. "Morning," she murmured, watching him cook.
"Mornin', chere," Remy replied. "Sleep well?"
"Well enough," Crystal replied. "Did you?" She perched on the opposite counter to watch him, content to let him have control of the food.
"Slept fine," Remy said. He gestured to the frying pan where eggs and bacon were going at the same time. "This good for breakfast today?"
"Perfect," Crystal said with a grin. "Bacon and eggs are good. When we get to New Orleans if I have a kitchen available I'll make Sunday breakfast. Bacon, eggs, pancakes, hash browns, orange juice, and coffee."
"That sounds like a real fine idea," Remy said, grinning. Once the bacon and eggs were done cooking, he split everything between two plates and handed her one. "Dig in, chere."
"Thanks." Crystal started eating, staying quiet so they could just enjoy their food.
"My pleasure," Remy replied. He dug into his own breakfast, savoring it.
Crystal did the dishes when they were done, leaving everything to dry in the drying rack.
"So, head out now or later?" |
"Now's fine with me," Remy said. "Whenever you feel like leavin', chere."
"Let's go get packed up, then. Or let me shove my stuff in a bag since you're probably ready already."
"Let me know when you're set," Remy said. He knew it wouldn't take her long.
