"Some things never change, I guess," Steve muttered.
"I just hope Coulson finds the creeper and scares the shit out of him," Laurel said. |
Tony settled in with his drink, keeping track of the comments and boards on a StarkPad.
Doreen also settled in, content to just let Coulson take over for now. |
"So what exactly is on this blog, anyways?" Clint asked as he looked at the screen. Reading wasn't his strongest skill ever, but he wasn't illiterate. "Besides this latest thing, anyway."
"Research," Doreen said, scrolling through some of the older posts. "We were in LA when Tony returned and made the first few Iron Man suits, we were here for the Chitauri invasion, we were visiting England when the Dark Elves attacked. So we started a little blog showing what we'd seen and doing some background research on people like Loki and the myths and things that most normal people don't take into account."
"Wait, you were there?" Clint asked, looking at her. "How the hell did you manage to be in all three places? Did you manage to stumble on New Mexico, too, or something?"
"Yeah, we were in New Mexico for a writing conference," Doreen said with a grin. "We still don't know how we were in all four places, the chances of that are astronomical."
"No wonder Phil wanted to get his hands on you," Clint said. "You've probably got better info than half of SHIELD, just from hanging around."
"That's what Coulson said," Doreen said with a grin. "We've seen Tony flying around for years. I think we saw Thor briefly the first time, right Lor?"
"Plaid shirt and all," Laurel replied, nodding and grinning. "The second time, though, we were in that library, right on the edge of the action."
"That was interesting," Doreen said. "We weren't even the only ones stopping to take pictures and videos."
"I was live-blogging it, though," Laurel admitted. "Through my phone."
"Yup. And I was taking pictures." Doreen grinned. "Much like now, just a bit lower tech, we both got phone upgrades in the meantime and now I have my fancy-pancy camera."
"Doreen takes better pictures than I do, most of the time," Laurel added. "So I usually run the blog while she does the fieldwork when it needs to be done."
"Normally it works well," Doreen said with a shrug. "But I think having a flying Roomba with a first aid kit is the first time I've actually been prepared." She grinned.
"Well, that pest did come in handy for something, Barton," Tony said with a grin. |
"Well, yeah, he's awesome," Clint said, grinning. "Feel free to use him whenever you want."
"Thanks." Doreen grinned and settled in for a little while, since the team seemed to be unwinding now. Tony ended up ordering food in (meaning Jarvis ordered food to be delivered).
Laurel settled in, occasionally checking the blog. When dinner arrived, though, she did quickly get a picture on her phone of the group sitting in front of a movie with pizza, though. That was definitely something she wanted to save for later.
Doreen also snapped a couple of candid photos, mostly for herself and Laurel. Clint and Tony bickering over the movie and wielding baguettes like swords, Thor laughing at them, Natasha grabbing both of them by the ears and taking charge of movie night. Things like that.
Laurel couldn't help but laugh at their antics. It was amusing, and very comforting, that the team did things like that. It made them seem more normal.
The two girls ended up spending the rest of the night settling in with the Avengers, just spending quality bonding time with them.
However, it wasn't long before the press started to actively try to find out who they were. The guy hadn't talked yet, but it was only a matter of time before someone else found out. |
The pressure from the public got to the point that Coulson finally had to intervene.
"I think it's about time we held a short press conference about this," he said to the group. "Answer any questions about the blog and it's connection to recent events." |
Tony nodded. "Peps thought so too, she has one scheduled for tomorrow," he said, glancing over at the girls. "Should we bring them in too? Or just confirm that their blog is legit and fine and blah blah blah and not let the press vultures at them?"
"I don't want their faces out there unless it's absolutely unavoidable," Coulson replied. "It's safer that way."
"Good." Tony nodded. "Then we should be all set, we just validate the blog, say we know who's running it, that it's none of the public's business, and keep the vultures away. No big deal."
Coulson nodded.
"Just try not to set off another media frenzy, Stark," he said. "I know sometimes it's unavoidable, but please try." |
