Doreen nodded and headed for the park, finding a nice place to sit and watch everyone else. She grinned at Thor as she settled down.
Thor sat down with her as well, ignoring the few stares they were getting. He was used to it by now, and he settled comfortably next to Doreen.
"You seem very comfortable," Doreen noted. Clearly she'd noticed the looks too.
"Why would I not be?" Thor asked. I have come to cherish this realm, and it pleases me to be here." He looked at her. "Just as it pleases me to be in the company of such a lovely lady."
Doreen blushed a bit at that, wondering how he made the leap from A to B. "I'm glad I'm not boring you," she said.
"You're not boring me at all," Thor replied. "And I'm grateful for your help today."
"Well, it is kind of selfish too," Doreen pointed out with a little laugh. "I kind of like the way the world is now, faults and all."
"I agree," Thor replied. "I rather enjoy how this cycle has turned out, aside from a few events. I'd as soon not end it quite yet."
"Yeah, well, there's bound to be bumps along the way," Doreen mused. "Some have just been a little bigger and more all-encompassing than we're used to."
"Indeed," Thor replied. Then he lapsed into silence, just watching the people go by and enjoying the company.
Doreen relaxed with him and ended up leaning not quite against his side, but close. She couldn't help it that she was sitting next to a very good looking god.
And apparently some of their followers lived in New York, because after an hour or so, Doreen saw some people keeping an eye on Thor but not interfering. She was curious to see what would happen if they got up and tried to head back to the Tower. |
Thor had also noticed their watchers.
"Interesting," he commented. "They are simply standing idle." |
"Laurel may have had something to do with that," Doreen said, pulling out her phone and showing him the most recent post Laurel had put up. "Apparently lots of people want to make sure the world stays the way it is."
"I see," Thor said as he skimmed the entry displayed on the screen. While he might not understand how to use a 'blog', he could not deny its apparent audience. "And they have all read what she wrote?"
"Yeah," Doreen said, looking at him to see if he was upset. "I wasn't quite expecting people to be finding us, though. Mostly I just expected comments."
Thor chuckled.
"I have learned not to underestimate the curiosity of Midgard," he said. "I am not surprised in the least that they have found us. There were onlookers in Greenwich, after all." |
"Very true," Doreen admitted. Then she grinned. "I shudder to think what they'll do if we try to leave before sundown."
That made Thor grin.
"Indeed," he said. "The thought is oddly comforting, in truth." |
Doreen laughed. "Comforting, in a way, yes. But also kind of creepy at the same time."
"This is true," Thor agreed. He glanced around at their lurkers. "Perhaps we should invite them over. They would not be skulking about then. I'm sure we could pass the time somehow."
"Might as well," Doreen agreed, looking at some of the onlookers and beckoning them over. It didn't take long for the first brave soul to wander over.
"Come and join us," Thor encouraged them. "I was about to regale this fine lady with a few tales of my youth, you are all more than welcome to listen."
People filtered over to them and sat down with them. Some of them looked awed, some looked amused, and some looked kind of expectant.
Thor waited until a few more had joined them before starting.
"One time that I doubt I will ever forget was the week my brother was invisible," he said. "For an entire week, not a soul could find him. Or, if they did, they spoke not a word of it. Mother was not worried, of course, and so Father let it go, but the fact remains that Loki decided that he was not going to be seen for a week." |
"How'd he manage that?" one person asked, looking at Thor. "Was he actually invisible or just really good at hiding?"
