"The mushrooms were your idea, you're the one who picked them up," Laurel maintained, grinning.
Tony grinned as well, shooing the girls off towards the spare rooms and then meandering back down to his workshop. He had projects to keep working on. |
The bantering continued all the way down to the spare room, and then Doreen finally found a couch and sat down.
"Holy crap we haven't woken up yet." |
"I know," Laurel said, sitting down as well. Her cell phone was clutched tightly in her hand. "Oh god, Dori, this is real. It's happening."
"Okay. Okay, this is fine, we'll be fine, we just need to not panic and not freak out and this will be so, so good." Doreen looked at Laurel, clearly trying hard to keep calm.
"I feel like we just got Matrixed," Laurel said faintly. "Pulled out of the mundane program and put into something else."
"We got pulled out of the mundane program the day the Chitauri attacked," Doreen said, shaking her head a bit.
"Not like today," Laurel pointed out. "We practically just got our own personal Morpheus." She bit her lip, and opened her bag. "Should I pull out my computer and make a proper post?"
"Yeah, I think so," Doreen said after a moment. "Might as well explain what's going on so people know."
Laurel nodded and pulled out her laptop. It immediately connected to the internet with a faster connection than she'd ever seen before.
"This is fantastic," she said as she typed. So it has come to this. We have been selected (how, we have no clue, but we're LOOKING AT YOU, RIGHT THERE. YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE.) to be the official bloggers for the Avengers. https://31.media.tumblr.com/b1ba4294...5tI1rnjm06.gif We're not sure if this is actually happening or if it's an elaborate shared hallucination brought on by alcohol and stress. It's still sort of a fifty-fifty shot, but we're starting to bet on it being real. You can't make this kind of shit up, so it has to be real. Personally, I'm still trying to get my brain around the fact that TONY STARK knows who we are and likes us. That sort of thing just doesn't happen to normal people, right? (Looking at you, again. This is All. Your. Fault.) So what this ultimately means: in between our regularly scheduled speculation and provision of choice pictures, we're going to be highlighting certain things that happen. You'll notice when it happens, promise. #SHIELD, #Avengers, #there is no spoon, #follow the white rabbit Once she was done, Laurel handed it over to Doreen to look over. |
Doreen snickered. "Nice gif," she said with a grin. "I approve. Go ahead and put it up, see how fast we get hits this time." She grinned as she settled back into her seat to watch the fireworks. Because she knew this would be getting some attention.
"Done," Laurel said, hitting the button to put up the post. "Give them a few minutes to notice and read it..." She sighed happily. "This is fantastic."
"It is. It really, really is." Doreen grinned. "Can you imagine all the info we'll have access to now?"
"It's a beautiful, beautiful thing," Laurel agreed, grinning. "And the candids we'll be able to get, it'll be spectacular."
"No kidding," Doreen said with a grin. "Plus I bet we'll be able to get all sorts of golden tidbits for the blog about their lives outside of saving the world."
"We'll need to keep a private blog or something about it," Laurel said. "Just to keep track of everything and sort through it." She glanced back at the post and grinned. "Fifty notes already, it's been seen." Then she paused. "Should we assume two of those don't count? One for Stark and one for this Darcy person?"
"Definitely one for Stark, but I'm not sure about the other," Doreen said thoughtfully. "She might not be as attached to her tech as Stark is. Just because she sends us great pics doesn't mean she pounces on alerts the instant they come in."
"Cell phone pictures like what she sends us?" Laurel was thoughtful for a moment. "No, she might, depending. I mean, hell, we were normal up until earlier today, and we still lived on our phones, practically."
"Sometimes," Doreen agreed. Then she shook her head. "Well, either way, we should hear sometime soon either way." She managed a grin. "At least neither of us had plans for the holidays."
"Thank god," Laurel agreed, grinning. "The universe is looking out for us."
"Yes it is." Doreen grinned. "We'll have to figure out if we actually are staying here now or what, 'cause this is kind of a long commute from our apartment."
"It would suck having to commute here," Laurel agreed. She was quiet for a moment. "Would they really let us stay here, though? I mean, they have no idea who we are, and we don't know them, not really."
"He just gave us a room," Doreen pointed out. "Besides, I'm sure they had us investigated, or SHIELD did the investigating. So we don't know each other personally, but they did kind of appoint us their PR people, we do kind of have to be around to do that."
"I know, but still, it's..." Laurel trailed off. "Come on, Dori, you can't honestly tell me that the thought of waking up to breakfast with them doesn't terrify you at least a little bit."
"Oh it does, I'm just very good at hiding that," Doreen said blandly. "It's totally terrifying, considering the place and the people and all that. I'm just trying to not freak out."
"I'm just about to freak out," Laurel said. "I mean, come on, we're in Avengers Tower, we just met the Avengers, and we got told to stay and what makes this okay?" She stopped herself there for a moment. "And they want us to be their PR team."
