Sam watched, a bit in awe. He'd never seen someone work like Tony did.
"You get used to him," Steve said with a bit of a snort. "Eventually."
"You say that, somehow I don't believe you yet," Sam said, shaking his head. "This is all so weird, and still kinda awesome."
Steve chuckled and went to go sit next to Laurel again, just letting Sam get used to the tower for now.
Laurel smiled when he sat down next to her.
"Found some fun speculation," she commented. "And someone submitted pictures of you and Barnes out running in the mornings." |
Steve chuckled. "I'm not surprised," he said with a bit of a grin. "We've been going out a lot recently. And what kinds of speculation?"
"Just the usual," Laurel replied, grinning. "What the plans are now that he's been assimilated into the group, whether or not he's going to stay, if he's your gay lover from the forties, that kind of thing."
"If he's my--" Steve was quiet for a moment before he started snickering. Okay, that was pure gold. "Hey, Buck, people are wondering if we're secretly lovers." He was grinning.
Bucky snickered so suddenly he choked on it.
"No way," he said, looking over. "Really? That didn't take long at all." |
"Not long at all," Steve agreed with a grin. "Again. I had wondered if people would talk."
"Not surprised they did," Bucky said. He snorted. "Could be worse, though. They could be speculating on whether or not I've managed to corrupt you yet."
"I'm sure that's coming too," Steve said with a grin. "It'll be fun to see what else they come up with."
"No kidding," Bucky agreed. He turned back to the kitchen, watching to see how Clint fared at stealing cookies.
Clint was indeed failing at sneaking past Dori to get to the cookies, at least for another few minutes until she deemed them cool enough and let him at them.
Steve chuckled and shook his head, peering over at the tablet Laurel was holding. "Anything else interesting going on?" |
"Not really," Laurel said, flicking through a few posts. "The media seems pretty quiet today, where the Avengers are concerned. The government is making noise about a Registration Act again, though," she added, looking at a newer post that floated across her dashboard. "Apparently, it's been tweaked to try to include all superhuman and sentient non-human beings." She made a face. "I can't imagine that's going to go over well."
"It's not," Tony said, glancing back at them. "It's too invasive, people will be too divided over it for it to go anywhere." He smirked. "Besides, I've already got a few ideas for a backup plan."
"Good to know," Laurel said, tapping the screen a few times and making a couple of comments on the blog. She didn't put up anything detailed, just that the Avengers knew about the Registration Act attempt. She was careful to make sure it didn't sound like they were taking sides on it quite yet.
Steve shook his head, looking disgusted. He'd have to look over the proposed act himself, but it sounded terrible.
Laurel glanced at Steve.
"It's never going to pass," she said gently. "The government will be arguing amongst itself for ages over it. The last two tries didn't pass, after all, and that was with the Act just targeting mutants." |
"Well, I'll make sure it doesn't pass, if it ever gets close," Steve muttered. "For now I'll just keep an eye on it."
Laurel nodded.
"You can probably get SHIELD to give you a copy of the proposal," she said. "Hell, Tony can probably do it." |
Steve nodded with a little chuckle. "I'm sure Tony already has a copy," he said. "He's good at that."
Laurel couldn't help but grin a bit.
"It wouldn't surprise me," she said. "Not one bit." |
Steve nodded, grinning. "At least he's out of the workshop."
"Sort of," Laurel replied, glancing at Tony. The genius was still playing with the blueprint hologram, though now he was sitting at the table instead of standing in the middle of the hall.
