"I'll let you hitch a ride on my coattails," Steve teased with a grin.
Bucky snorted.
"At least time I won't have to bail you out of a scrap in the alley, punk," he said. |
Steve scowled at him. "You never had to bail me out," he grumbled. "I was fine." But then his lips twitched.
Bucky snorted.
"Every damn time," he said, grinning. "Sometimes I even got there before the split lip and the shiner." |
"It wasn't always both," Steve protested. "Sometimes I just had a split lip."
"Sometimes," Bucky agreed, still grinning a bit. "But I still had to bail you out. Though not anymore, I guess."
Steve shrugged. "None of us need bailing out, but that doesn't mean we can't watch each others' backs anyway. Like we always have."
Bucky raised an eyebrow.
"It's not like anyone can beat you up in an alley anymore," he pointed out. |
"Not anymore," Steve agreed. "Not a bad thing, though, really."
Bucky snorted.
"No kidding," he said. He grinned. "Nobody'd dare now. Nobody normal, at least." |
Steve laughed a bit. "That's true," he said with a grin. "Of course, no one sane or normal becomes a villain."
"No kidding," Bucky said. It was a bit strained, though, and he couldn't muster much of a grin over it. That one had hit a bit too close for comfort.
Steve sighed and nudged him again. "Come on, let's go look through some of the in-house-only pictures of Clint making a fool of himself. Always helps me feel better."
Bucky raised an eyebrow at that and cautiously nodded. That sounded entertaining enough.
Steve moved his chair over so they were side by side and pulled up the images, starting to go through the newer ones first. Doreen really was good at getting some terrible images of them.
The first image startled a snort out of Bucky.
"Doreen's got to have help from the house for some of these," he said, looking through the pictures. "A few of these aren't possible elsewise." |
"Some of them, yeah," Steve said with a grin. "But not all of them. At least half she gets on her own."
"How does she even get some of these?" Bucky asked as he flipped through another few pictures. He paused when he came across one of Clint being flipped over Natasha's hip in sparring practice. "Now I've had that happen before."
"I think everyone has," Steve said, rather ruefully. "But it does help." He paused. "I think."
"Sort of," Bucky agreed. "Mostly it's just a hit to the pride."
"I think it's more amusing, for her at least," Steve said. "My pride has gotten used to her throwing us all around."
"At least she doesn't throw me down on the left anymore," Bucky said. "It's not fun landing on this shoulder, it jams the socket mount against some bone."
Steve nodded. "She's learned. She knows not to throw Tony on his chest, either."
Bucky snickered.
"She actually manages to get Stark into the ring?" he asked. |
"Yeah. Had to drag him the first couple times, but now he comes mostly voluntarily." Steve grinned.
