"Yeah. I know." Doreen shook her head. "If it's not a dream and it's not mushrooms then it's really, really strange. We just had a blog. A nice simple little blog with a few followers and two nice anonymous sources giving us pictures. That's it."
"I know. And now we're smack in the middle of everything," Laurel said, nodding. She sat down. "It could have been any of the other blogs out there. There have to be thousands of other speculation blogs out there. Our sources just happened to stumble on ours first."
"Just pure luck, probably," Doreen said, walking idly around the room. "I mean, we know there are other blogs, we've looked at them. Just because we took the time to actually research..."
"And that's it," Laurel said. "We bothered to research, because we wanted to be sure of what we were posting. And now look where we are." She grinned slowly. "And remember, when we were kids, how we got laughed at for reading so many Captain America comics? It paid off."
"Oh this is so paying off. And living in California for a few years? Totally going to pay off, because we actually bothered to look into SI. Remember that?" Doreen grinned as well.
"My parents thought I was insane," Laurel said, nodding. She grinned widely. "And look where we are now."
"No kidding." Doreen grinned. "Okay, even if we don't get to stay, just having access to this place will be the best thing ever."
"It really will," Laurel said, nodding. She giggled a bit. "Remember George, back in senior year? He was always complaining about how bloggers were lazy and would never be anything. God I want to rub his smarmy face in it."
"Oh that would be so, so perfect," Doreen agreed with a huge grin. "It would be a little bitchy of us but it would be so worth it."
"Ooh it would be so good," Laurel said. She sighed. "I haven't seen him since high school, though, and we've moved twice since then. Too bad."
"We probably could still find him, but it's not worth that much effort." Doreen shook her head. "Although I wouldn't mind telling that English teacher that everything worked out okay."
"Who, Archer? God, me too. I thought he retired, though, year after we left?" Laurel mused. She grinned, nearly cackling. "And you remember that guy who lives a couple floors down from us? The one with the rubber band gun? He follows the blog, I think he's one of our trolls. I want to rub his nose in it too."
"If he's a troll he's getting his nose rubbed in it already," Doreen said with a near cackle. "Archer did retire but we can totally go tell him anyway, or send him a letter."
"Send him a letter," Laurel said, grinning. "With a picture, as proof. And rubber band guy doesn't know the blog is ours, I don't think, or else he wouldn't complain about it where we can hear him."
"Well as soon as the press actually gets hold of this you can bet they're going to try to find out who we are," Doreen reasoned. "So people will soon be trying to find out who we are."
"Well, a lot of my posts are from my phone," Laurel said. "I can do more of that. And we've been doing alright so far, we'll just have to be careful."
"Yeah." Doreen shook her head a bit. "Well, we'll tackle that when we need to. For now, we should just try to figure out what exactly we're going to do for our new job."
"Fantastic idea," Laurel said, nodding. She looked at the blog again. "Over a thousand notes. It's spreading fast today."
"I'll be surprised if this doesn't make it on the news or something, I mean, everything Avengers-related does get on the news." Doreen shook her head. "We'll see how long it takes."
"Time to crowd source to the youtubers, then," Laurel said, grinning. "Have them keep an eye on the news channels for us." Quickly, she tapped out a short post on and posted it.
Hey, guys. Anyone who keeps an eye on the news feeds, let us know if there's any mention of us? We know how sharp you all are, especially you GIFers out there. And you, there, you know who you are. You're no exception. #crowdsource, #you're our eyes and ears, #such good minions |
Doreen snickered when she saw it.
"Oh this is going to be fun," she said, watching the numbers adding up again, just as quickly as with the previous post. |
"Look at it go," Laurel marveled. "And look, the follower count practically doubled since this morning."
"Um, yea, when you put up that first post about SHIELD I'm sure it started spreading like wildfire, you know how the internet is," Doreen said with a shrug.
"I know, but it's weird to see from this end," Laurel replied. "I'm not used to us being so popular so fast."
Doreen just snickered and shook her head. Oh she expected they'd have a lot more people than they knew what to do with before long.
