"Right. Maybe. I don't know how long it will take for her to learn that much." Bree shrugged. "Either way, we've at least got Sherlock and Charlotte."

"Right," John replied. He gently pulled her a bit closer. "Though for now I don't mind it just being you and I in the cabin."

Bree smiled a bit at that. "Yeah, it is nice," she agreed. "Much quieter." She shifted a bit to rest her head against his shoulder.

John let the comfortable silence stretch for a little while. For now, life was good.

Several weeks later, Charlotte decided it was time for Alexandra's first lessons in flying. The dragonet had grown rapidly in those weeks, and had learned how to speak so that the humans could understand her, and it was obvious the little one was eager to venture outside the cave.
