Clara made a face, but went along with them. She wouldn't mind too much if she had a meal with them, after all.
|
Tony picked up Clint and Elisa on the way before heading for the general messes so they could get food.
Elisa rolled her eyes at him and got herself a little bit of food so she'd have something to nibble on. She wasn't particularly hungry, after all. |
Clara grabbed a little something as well, and sat down with Bruce and Tony.
Clint grabbed himself some food and plopped down as well, absently shooing away some mice that scurried over for freebies. |
Tony settled into chatting easily in between eating, about what work he was doing and figuring out what Bruce was doing and speculating what trouble they could get into. But they were one of the more normal conversations, for once.
Elisa snorted at Clint but after a few moments tilted her head, listening to everyone around them. She heard a lot of muttering about the rain and the outside, and that was worrisome. |
Clara could hear the mutters about the rain, as well, and it worried her. Something wasn't right.
|
"Something's not right today," Elisa murmured, still listening in on conversations. "People are restless."
|
"I can hear it," Clara replied. "Something's going on. Have you heard anything from above?" Clara hadn't heard anything from her god, but that didn't mean there wasn't anything to hear.
|
"Not yet, but I doubt he'd confide in me first," Elisa said quietly. "He's more likely to go to Chris or El first. I'll talk to them later and see what they've heard."
|
Clara nodded.
"I'll ask around as well," she said. "Something's clearly going on, and I want to know what it is." |
Elisa nodded and waited until after their impromptu lunch was over to stand.
"I think I need to go see a few people," she said. "I'll be back for dinner." She glanced askance at Clint to see if he was staying or would walk back with her. He did that sometimes. |
Clint shrugged and got up, going to follow her. He had nothing better to do for the moment.
|
Elisa headed back towards her temple, waving Clint in with her.
"Chris? El? Either of you around?" she called quietly. "Over here," Chris called back, smiling a bit. "You look like you need something." He motioned for the two to sit. "Well, we've been hearing some kind of... odd things," Elisa said slowly, glancing at Clint. "In the messes mainly. About the rain and the outside." |
Clint nodded.
"I've been hearing whispers, too," he said. "Recently, within the last couple of days or so." |
"I thought so," Chris murmured. He sighed. "I was afraid of this. It's been too long since anyone has been outside, people are getting restless. There are rumors every so often, but if you're hearing about it, it's growing."
|
"Outside?" Clint asked. Actually, outside the dome sounded interesting. He did kind of want to see the outside world. "Okay, I'll bite. Why is outside bad?"
|
"There is a reason we're all inside a protected dome," Chris said, his voice rather dry. "Outside was hit by a disaster, a few generations ago. As far as we know, we're the only human survivors left. We see creatures outside, but not much else. Outside was poisonous for a long time, although that may not be true anymore, but it is dangerous out there."
|
"Has anyone been out to look?" Clint asked. "For all we know, it could have improved some since then."
|
"It could have," Chris agreed mildly. "But no, no one has been out to look in a long time."
|
Clint contemplated that for a few minutes.
"Well, what if someone did?" he asked. "Maybe we could bring up the idea. It would get everyone else to settle down for a while, I bet. I mean, if they knew someone was going to go out and explore and see what was out there." |
"It would help settle people," Chris agreed. "But that would have to be a volunteer basis, and even then we'd have to have a way to select people. We can't send just anyone. Some people aren't quite... ready." Here meaning too stupid or lacking enough common sense.
|
Clint was quiet for a moment.
"I'd go," he said. "I mean, as long as I didn't have to go alone, I'd go." |
Chris looked at him for a few moments before he nodded.
"Very well. I will speak to my god about this, and see what he thinks. I'm sure he'll speak with the others before any decision is made, but I will tell him that we have at least one volunteer." |
Clint nodded.
"Alright," he said. "I'll send word up my chain, as well, about people getting restless and chatty." And he definitely wanted to talk to Tony and Bruce about what was going on, as well. |
Chris nodded and stood. "You do that, then," he said, helping Elisa up. "I believe I should speak to my god as soon as possible. Elisa, do you wish to come with?"
Elisa nodded after a moment. "Yeah. I'll see you at dinner, then, Clint." |
Clint nodded and took that as his cue to head out of their temple. Instead of going to find Tony, though, he made his way back to his own temple, instead. He wanted to make sure they knew about things first.
