Game of Thrones, show or books
Whats better in your opinion, the show or the books?
|
They're both good.
Can't say much more than that. |
I haven't read much of the series yet. I'm a slow reader, and I don't really have the time to finish a novel at my pace anymore. So I have just been watching the show. I like it, and from what I hear, it follows the book pretty closely.

I definitely love both - but I love the books more. But I'm the type of person who always thinks the book is better than the movie/show. The show is great but they do cut a lot of details out of it...while not necessary to continue the main plot lines, I still loooove the details that the book provides! It allows me to create the world inside my mind and connect the dots thoroughly!

Not really sure, I've only ever watched the show so it's hard to say.
(It is an amazing show though lol) Anyways, my mother got the books for Christmas this year though, so maybe I'll try them out -- I've heard many people say that the books were a lot better. I'm also in this thread for opinions [squee] Besides that I've been meaning to, just haven't found the time! |

I like the series but haven't watched the newest ones yet, just havent gripped me unlike the books. there are also several novelettes, graphic novels, and an official encylopedia type book coming out. there is even a cook book, and a quotes of Tyrion Lannister! cant wait for a decent real time strategy game for it, like Total War or something similar. anyway going off topic there, without watching again I cant remember what things they change in the series apart fom the very first episode they kill off the younger man, where as in the books its the other way around I believe? But Im sure there is a lot skipped and so on |
I think both are good in their own right. I am reading the books and am also watching the show on HBO. I like the books because they go into more that the show can't even though they've split the books differently for each season after the 2nd season.
But, I also like the series because you get to see what you read in the books. Or vice versa. that and I do enjoy seeing the differences and point out "oh yeah, that wasn't in the show" or "oh ok, that wasn't in the book". |
A lot of people are going to say books, automatically, just because it's common opinion that books > shows. But I have to disagree here. Sure the books are dramatic and all, but to be honest, I don't like his style. The author tends to be very slow, draggy, and it honestly reminds me of how well the LOTR turned out and yet the books were poorly written. Because the author of LOTR is best at making the world, producing it, rather than writing a story inside it. To me, it feels the same way with GoT.
I do love both, but I prefer the show over the book. |
^ I can see that.
While I do prefer the books in most regards, there's a few things I think the show handled better than the book, like Dani's journey into the House of the Undying (in the book it was just plain weird, and a poorly executed way to foreshadow future events imho) and Theon's arc in the second season. The show is very well made either way, and I really love watching it. So as I said in my earlier post, I love both. xD |
My fiance was reading the books and he said that the show was pretty on par with the books and how great the characters are...personally, I have not read the books and only have seen the show and idk how far my fiance was into the books, but we both enjoy the show and watch it together~

Naturally I prefer to read the books over watching the shows, you get to make up your own settings and how each character looks to you in books. However I started game of thrones on the show therefore ruining any hope I had for the books. Mainly because every time I happened to pick up my book and attempt at enjoying them it always came up inside my mind that "Hey I know whats going to happen lets just skip to the next chapter." until I had basically skipped three books trying to find where I had left off in the tv series. But if there was a chance to wipe the series from my mind and read the books first I would but dont get me wrong. I'd still watch the show like I do now. Basically craving every episode to come out. They are doing a good job at keeping interest

I am reading the books right now, and I'm up to the third one. I really, really like them, to the point of them probably being one of my favourite series. However, some of the chapters really bore me, like, whenever I get to Jon's chapters I basically groan. Still, I love reading most of the chapters, especially Tyrion, Deanerys and Sansa's ones, and I love how they include so much more detail as to the characters' feelings, and also how the events tend to have that extra level of complexity. However, I kind of like the show more. Like someone said before, it certainly executes some of the events better, and gets rid of some of the pointless detail that is in the books (detail is great, but pointless detail - not so much). Mostly, however, I just really like being able to see the battles and the costumes and the locations and the dragons.
