Wyrmskyld:
I feel the same way. We want the users to be interested, because it is an event for the users. But it's also RUN by users, so the people involved in the planning and running of it should be interested in the theme too All we can do is try to find a balance, and I think we're doing great so far! Argh, I should probably go to bed sometime soon (> w>) |
Nooo! Stay with us, Aya! Forever and ever and ever!
|
Lol, I need to go to bed too. It's midnight.

Mkay, I definitely believe that hosts should have the final say in what should happen. Wouldn't you be the slightest bit upset if you couldn't choose to host a thread from the lesser of X many evils? I'd sure want to make sure that the people that I have signed up to work for me got as close to what they wanted as possible 'seeing as people who aren't hosting can opt out if they want.
Hell, if PMs are the issue: Have Mule, Will List. steelmagghia: Thank you for adding me, but please remove my name from the thread helpers list for the moment. Evidence points to me not understanding how things are done in Menewshia. |
Just logged onto my mule to store my money away, or else I'll use it [ninja]
|
Okay, will do. Back down to nine people. :)
|
Okie dokie, I think I need to tear myself away from the computer
Gotta work both jobs tomorrow, so I need to get some sleep |
:\ I really don't want to seem like I'm not listening to people-- I am... I just feel like... say we're starting with 20 options. If we're the ones who narrow those down to 5 options, it means those will be the 5 options that this group wants the most. On the other hand, if someone else picks 5 options, there's a good chance that their 5 won't be the ones we want the most. I'd rather have someone else pick from a selection of things I like than have to pick from a selection that someone else likes.
Am I making any sense at all? |
It makes sense to me, I am of the same view point. It may sound selfish, but I think it's reasonable.
And again, if people really want a say in what themes might end up in the poll, then suggest & promote your theme I gotta jet for real now. I'll be on tomorrow evening! |
It does make sense. It just seems that if it were so bad for us to have the "final decision" from what the community likes, we'd be downright sadists if we only offered the community a very narrow selection to choose from. Public voting is a form of advertisement. You want people to feel as though they have a lot of input rather than a little.

:O Do you like my simple banners in my siggy?

It's all about how the individual looks at it.
It's not "so bad" for us to have the final decision. But to have them vote, then pick from their results, some could feel that we aren't fully accepting their decision I can see it from the other point of view as well, they could also feel we're only giving them limited choices But part of being a team of leaders is making decisions You can't please everyone. That's not sadistic. We could put it to a vote on which order we should do the voting in, but that feels like we're overthinking it Again, we could always ask advice from previous leaders, like blueblackrose, if that helps us decide If we clean up the long long list of themes we're getting, and organize ourselves as a team before presenting the poll to users, we're providing a united front. It doesn't have to be only 5 themes chosen from. The year before last I think they chose from 10 or so. We could do that. Menewshans do have input. That's what this thread is. |
Let me ask you:
Are we running this event for ourselves, or the community? If that's the case, then whose votes should have the most weight? |
well do what they did for the Menewsha newspaper. They took in names, chose a few and had people vote. Plain and simple. Now let's move on to the next order of business! XD Back to GAMES!!! And Banners and Stuff
---------- Post added 01-08-2014 at 12:53 AM ---------- We can always roll over event themes for the coming years. |
Tanabata specific.
Separated by a galaxy, the pair of lovers can only meet once a year. Long distance, bad weather is not helping in their once a year reunion. There are birds that were suppose to help build a bridge for them to meet each other, just with their united small bodies. Come to modern days, animal abuse becoming some issues, birds are no longer 'torture' to support the two deities weight. Tribute to such eternal love, let's help them reunite~ (obviously, I changed the last part to make it have a goal) As for Summer festival. Natsu, the hottest season of the year. To divert the attention off the scorching heat, there are various festivals for summer. Fireworks, snacks, games, music, dance, shows, being some of the popular activities. I find general summer festival not have any specific goals... or I may have miss it. x.x Or I was just not having enough creative juice to turn it into an awesome event cliffhanger. |
We are part of the community. We're running it for the community and ourselves.
It's not one or the other. "We" "Us" "Ours" it applies to everyone. Whether they choose to host a thread, or help with the planning, brainstorm ideas, or simply attend the event It's a user run event, there aren't mods to bang out the details and present it on a platter We have to create order from the chaos. I'm fine with keeping an open mind. But on matters of voting, I believe it does more help than harm to narrow down the list, then present the poll If enough users come in here protesting, then maybe the method should be re-evaluated The door to this thread is open to the community. We. Us. Menewshans. ---------- Post added 01-08-2014 at 02:17 AM ---------- BTW~ I really need to go to bed now. Night! |
Ok Dudes and Dudettes,
I love planning. I love to volunteer. I love to host events, but I do not love bickering about tiny details with people for things I don't actually have to do. Wyrm, I was excited to help you once upon a time. I DON'T actually care that much about how the voting is handled. I DO care about how people who would be working together treat one another. There is one personality type that I just cannot stand to work with. Hey Nail, meet Head. The reason why I kept pushing my thoughts was because you (Aya) were belittling my ideas rather than discussing your own point of view. It was actually Wyrmskyld who finally attempted to discuss how the plan you shared would work. No surprise here, this is a user ran event. By posting in this thread, yeah, that makes me a user. From your proclamation that "everyone deserves to voice their opinion and shouldn't feel shot down", you've done a damn good job SOLO at making me regret even subscribing to it. Let's try your shoes on for size! I'll hand back that little snowball argument you threw at me. Users aren't going to be coming into this thread to "protest." That's an absurd idea. Perhaps we should defer to other people, but I'm pretty sure that this is still the internet. If someone doesn't want to do something, then they won't participate. But don't worry, so long as other users opinions are in line with ours, then they totally matter! I've been the head planner and hostess for several years doing real time events with more than fifty people in attendance, and I am so glad that in our open-forum planning team, we never treat people like you have. I may have virtually no reputation here, but that does not mean that my thoughts should be mocked and belittled. I'm outtie. /unsub. |
People sure chatted a lot here... o_O *reads Ethos' post* What the heck happened?
---------- Post added 01-08-2014 at 01:54 PM ---------- If it's about theme, I personally haven't heard any complaints/anyone choosing not to attend because of the theme that users running the event have chosen. ... |
Sadrain, I actually stopped helping last event because the theme kinda freaked me out, but I still participated.
|
o_O; Oh okay, I'm not even sure what was last event's theme. It wasn't the fairy one, was it?

(But that can be a clash of personalities, I have had only one person be kind of rude to me in menewsha, they weren't purposely going out of their way, it was just their personality, and the way they explained them self... They should have taken more care in the way they dealt with me perhaps... But I knew they weren't being rude on purpose, and there was no point causing an argument, as it wouldn't solve anything, so didn't take a defensive stance, explained myself and the way I felt and left it to them. Their own conscience left them to say they meant no offence problem solved... How relevant that is to this little clash I dunno! [dunno] ) Anyway easiest thing to do, won't please And ObviouslyAya: cool siggy, where did you get it from, mind if we copy it, if we can? |

If the reason of having short list before public poll is to secure the host, I find it quite weak. There are still a few months before the alleged event time, anything can happen that changed the hosts' availability.
However, I do see the need of tidying up the themes base on its popularity, attractiveness, workability to short list before putting up the poll. I think the short description is very useful to see how workable it is to incorporate activities and storylines. In my thinking, public poll should hold the final and last decision. As when the result is out, everyone would know which theme it is instead of waiting for another inner round of voting. |

Ethos: i haven't had a chance to back read yet but, please don't leave and unsubscribe everyone's opinions/ideas matter while planning working together as a team doesn't mean we all have to agree just to respect others and acknowledge their opinions and ideas and in the end our user's event will be all the better for doing so ~in my opinion anyway~ also i think you have a wonderful reputation here on mene already and your knowledge of planning events will be very helpful for this we are all working to keep mene active and any help from any member is appreciated ~~hopefully no one will feel slighted or unimportant to our team, it's not what mene is about~~ i hope i have not misspoken or posted out of place i think a strong team is a diverse team and everyone should feel welcome |
yes hummy it would be a shame to loose Ethos.
We are in no rush though with this, however much we don't want to be boggeddoown going around in circles, about details. But just checked, I don't know what the maximum for a poll is but it allows you to do a thirty length option one! So on to brainstorming I read up on the werewolf mafia game and love the idea, lots of work, but love the idea of the extra characters like the fool, would be really funny. How did the assassination game work? |
