"My oldest sister might know something," Violet said, waving a hand. "Or the third one. Of the six of us with magic, those two were able to study longer than I was. Not a big deal."
Hook just nodded, moving over to the other side of the ship so he could keep an eye on the town.
Violet sighed softly after a moment.
"I should head back," she said. "Before my sisters notice I'm gone and start to worry." |
"Alright." Hook looked at her. "Well, feel free to come back if you want. I'll be here." He was rather stuck after all.
"You sure?" Violet asked. "I don't just want to invade or anything..."
"If I'm on the ship, you're not intruding," Hook said with a shrug. "It's not as if there's much for a pirate to do in a town this small."
Violet grinned a bit.
"Alright," she said. "I'll see about stopping by again sometime." |
Hook nodded and walked with her to the dock again before letting her go on her way.
Violet took one more look at him once she was on the docks, and then headed back to the apartment building. With a little luck, she'd be able to sneak back up the fire escape to her own apartment without her sisters knowing.
A week later, Dahlia was curled up in a chair while the sisters practiced dancing. She'd been there almost every day for at least a little while. She was getting used to having twelve friends.
Violet had managed to talk her three older sisters and her next two youngest sisters into practicing some riverdancing. It was a good style to brush up on, and Violet had promised to show Dahlia what it was.
Dahlia was actually having a lot of fun watching them, getting comfortable where she sat and grinning as she watched them. Okay, she could see the appeal of dancing, but she was all knees and elbows; she knew she wouldn't be any good at it.
Some of the younger sisters were sitting around Dahlia, watching the oldest six dance. They had already pretty much accepted Dahlia as a friend, at least, so they included her without a second thought as they draped and piled all over one another in that corner of the studio.
Dahlia grinned briefly as she looked at some of her new friends, absently twitching one's shirt back into place so half her back wasn't exposed. She was surprised how much fun she was having with them all.
Finally, the six oldest finished their dancing and flopped over in the corner, and the six youngest got up to practice under Maria's watchful eye. Violet settled in next to Dahlia, half-laying on top of one of her sisters (she wasn't entirely sure which).
"That was fun," she said, grinning. |
"That looked fun," Dahlia said with a bit of a grin. "It was very fun to watch."
"That's one of my favorite kinds of dancing," Violet said. "It lends itself so well to magic."
"How do you know when you are working magic? Is it just trial and error?" Dahlia blinked at her.
"At first, it was," Violet said. "When I was a kid, and just coming into my magic. I had no control, so it just happened. But it got easier to control as I learned more things, and now it's to the point where it doesn't happen unless I want it to."
"Ah." Dahlia nodded. Sounded much like herself, then. For all she knew about her magic, she knew next to nothing about other magic. "Makes sense."
"That's why I set up wards here as soon as we all remembered," Violet said. She gestured to the youngest girls. "Holly and Corinne. Holly, especially, has very little control, she only just came into her magic before everything happened."
"Ah. That could get interesting," Dahlia murmured. "We'll see how that progresses."
Violet nodded and leaned back, draping herself over the back of one of her sisters.
"What about you?" she asked. "How does it work for you?" |
"When I was young, I had to learn to control it." Dahlia shrugged. "Now I just think of what I want to do and push the magic behind it."
Violet nodded.
"Sounds about the same, then," she said. "You think about what you want it to do, and you make it do that thing." |
