Ivy glanced over at him before she moved over to a bench and sat down, stretching her legs out. "Much better," she murmured.
"Fortunately not all men are jerks," Steve said with a little grin. "I hope you find someone who treats you better." |
Logan made a low sound of agreement and leaned against a tree. He shook his wings out a bit, the dark feathers rustling and catching some of the dim light of the patio.
"That's why I'm here," Kate said. "Here's hoping." |
"So, doesn't exactly seem like your kind of thing." Ivy nodded back to the building, watching him as her own wings slowly relaxed and stretched out a bit.
"Right." Steve smiled. "I'll hope for you too." He paused and turned pink. "I mean, I hope that you do find a nice guy, that just came out... weird." He rubbed the back of his neck. |
"Nah, got dragged here by a friend," Logan said. "Apparently I need to get out more."
Kate grinned a bit, also turning a little pink. "Well, I mean, you seem like a nice guy," she said, biting her lip a little and hiding behind her plastic punch cup. Her wings fluttered a little, the feathers fluffing. |
Ivy nodded. "Yeah, I get that now." She shook her head a bit.
Steve blinked before he blushed more. "I, um, I suppose? I mean, I've never actually really had a, uh, girlfriend." He swallowed, his wings ruffling and shifting almost nervously. |
"What about you?" Logan asked. "Pretty girl like you must get all sorts of guys, can't imagine why you'd be here."
"Well, apparently, I've never had a proper boyfriend before," Kate pointed out, still pink. "But, I mean... We can go get coffee sometime? Maybe get to know each other?" |
"Just got out of a bad relationship not yet a month ago," Ivy said, swallowing. "Haven't been out much for a long time."
Steve smiled slowly. "Okay," he agreed. "Coffee. Sounds good to me. I'll give you my number." That, at least, he had memorized, and didn't have to wrestle with his phone about. |
Logan nodded and didn't push that particular issue. He recognized the look on her face.
Kate smiled a bit and pulled out her phone, putting in his number. Then she sent the number a text just saying 'Hi, it's Kate.' "There," she said. "Now you have mine too." |
Ivy shook herself after a few moments and got up, walking around the bench and the tree. She needed to move but didn't want to just walk away.
"Sorry," she apologized as she passed. "Can't hold still for too long anymore, seems like." Steve grinned when the text went through. "Great," he said. He glanced around and noticed Tony and Charles had both vanished into the crowd, and Logan was gone. "I guess my friends all found people to talk to." |
"No problem," Logan replied. "Get like that myself sometimes."
Kate glanced around. "My friend, too," she said. "Not sure where she got to." |
Ivy snorted but relaxed again slowly. "I'm surprised you don't have a girlfriend already."
Steve shrugged. "She's probably okay, this is a pretty public place," he said. "But if you want to go look for her..." He let the sentence trail off, leaving it up to her. |
Logan snorted.
"Last couple tries didn't end up so well," he said. Kate considered that for a moment. "I'll go look if she doesn't come back in soon," she said. She looked at Steve for a moment. "You sure you're single? I can't imagine why you don't have women throwing themselves at you." |
"Ah." Ivy nodded knowingly. "And your friend decided it was high time you try again?"
Steve grinned. "I never said I didn't," he pointed out. "Tony says I do. I just... never really noticed. I haven't been interested mostly for a while." |
"Pretty much," Logan replied. "And it's really hard to tell Chuck 'no.'"
"Your skills in ignoring people must be legendary," Kate said, grinning. "To not notice crowds of women tripping over themselves around you." |
Ivy laughed a bit. "He must have the best puppy eyes in the world," she said, moving back over to the bench and leaning on it but not actually sitting down.
Steve grinned. "I guess mostly I just run past them." |
"Heaven help the poor fool who gets those eyes turned on him without warning," Logan agreed. "Nobody can say no to Chuck."
Kate couldn't help but laugh a little at that. "Can't really blame them," she pointed out. "You're pretty easy on the eyes, you know." |
Ivy snickered. "Sounds like a fun guy."
Steve grinned a bit. He'd gotten used to that fact over the years, after all. "Well, then, why don't we give your friend a few more minutes, and go get that coffee a little earlier than expected?" |
"He can be," Logan replied. "More often'n not, he's a damn mother hen."
Kate grinned a bit and nodded. "Sure," she said. "Sounds fun." |
"And sounds like you don't need mother henning. Or you think you don't." Ivy grinned.
Steve smiled a bit and glanced down at his phone when he got a text from Tony asking if he was having fun. He sent back a vaguely affirmative text and added he was going to get coffee and would find his own way back to the tower. "Sorry, one of my friends checking in." |
"'Course I don't," Logan replied. "Haven't for ages."
"That's fine," Kate said, on her phone as well. "I'm letting my friend know where I'm going, too." |
Ivy shook her head a bit. "Everyone can do with some mother henning sometimes," she said quietly. Then she blinked when her phone went off, checking it quickly and sending back an okay.
Steve nodded. "Good. I'll give you the address too if you want, so you can tell your friend. In case you need a ride or anything." |
Logan just made a bit of a face at that. He didn't need any mothering. Charles just never took no for an answer.
"I'll ask for it if I need it," Kate said. "So are we going to go?" She ruffled her wings a bit in anticipation. |
Ivy shook her head a bit but didn't say anything else, just settling in there. Her wings ruffled and shifted, more relaxed than she had been inside.
"Sure." Steve smiled and headed for the door. "I hope you don't mind walking. It's not far, and I don't have a car." |
"Walking's fine," Kate said, grinning a bit. "Let's go."
Logan went quiet too, just enjoying the peace and fresh air. |
Steve nodded and walked with her, enjoying the quiet outside. The coffee place wasn't far, and it was even one of those little family-run places he loved.
