His weapon of choice is a naginata (polearm), so either will work, but I'm starting to think that something that is easier to move in would be better than heavy armor.

Unless, of course, she got a solar battery charger. Even so, I feel like her memory card could fill up in a day. And if she dropped it? Ugh, she would be livid! I was also thinking of having Anna ask for her grandfather's compass, but Billy's watch has a built-in compass so there's no need for a compass when he wears one on his wrist.

Maybe a map of the stars? I don't know why but a feel like a book of the night sky could be helpful, should they need to travel at night. Or a book of the area -- what to eat, what to avoid, etc.

A large tent could be super useful, as could a flashlight.

Oh jeez, a med pack. A first aid kit could be super helpful. Bandages, neosporin, alcohol rubs, etc.
