Dragon Age: Inquisition - Info
Dragon Age: Inquisition Some info on the most anticipated game of 2014 (for me anyway) Release Date - As of April 22, EA has announced that it will be released October 7, 2014. UPDATE: Due to the devs wanting a little more time to tweak the game and iron out some more bugs, the release date has been moved to November 18, 2014 in North America, and November 21, 2014 in Europe. Decisions - While Dragon Age: Origins gained its fame from the sheer amount of replayability it had, and the fact that you were able to have to many different choices, Dragon Age II was left eating dust. Many people complained about the lack of changes their previous choices made, and Bioware listened. It has now been stated that Inquisition will have even more numerous and large choices than Origins, and that the entirety of the world will literally depend on you. Choose between saving your Keep, or a neighboring city. Choose to uncover an abandoned fortress, or leave it to bandits that (may) come back to bite you in the behind later on. - You will not be able to import previous saves, however, due to the awkward transference of consoles. BUT, Bioware has mentioned an important tool they are working on, called the Keep, that will allow you to go into incredible depth of your previous games and the decisions, so that you needn't play Origins and II over again. - While there has been a closed beta on the Keep for a few months now, a lot of the features have been revealed in a video here. It is likely the Keep will be released to the public somewhere between mid to late October. Races - There will be complete access to all races in Inquisition, from elves, dwarves, humans, and Qunari (or kossith). (super excited!) - It has been confirmed that Bioware will hire 4 voice actors, two male and two female, and players will be able to choose any voice for any race. There will be a female English accent, female American accent, male English accent, and male American accent. English - Female: Alix Wilton Regan - Male: Harry Hadden-Paton American - Female: Sumalee Montano - Male: Jon Curry Plot - Although Origins was about your Warden and the defeat of the Blight, II was about a struggle between the Mages and Chantry. While II didn't get very good reviews, many people missed the actual purpose of II. It was meant as a transition between the darkspawn of Origins, and into the major story of the mage/Chantry war, which is going to be a major point of Inquisition. - Another point is the fact that you will be the leader of what was once a branch of the Chantry, now opposing it, called the Inquisition. Your job as Inquisitor will be to travel through Thedas and reestablish the presence of your order. - Last but not least, the Veil. Your character, the Inquisitor, will have been at the battle in which the Veil was torn and killed everyone. People are looking to you because you are the only one to have survived out of hundreds. Many people believe you are responsible, while others think you are the only way to stop it. A mark on your hand allows you to close rips in the Veil, but also makes you an obvious target for enemies. Characters - Now that the release date is nearing, a lot of information about the characters are coming out. We now know all of the companions and advisers, as well as some NPCs. There are three advisers to the Inquisitor, who are technically NPCs but can be interacted with as if they were companions. Here are some of the more important characters that have been revealed: Returning Characters - Morrigan (NPC) - Alistair (NPC) - Cullen (Advisor) - Leliana (Advisor) - Varric (companion) - Cassandra Pentaghast (companion) - Cole (companion) New Characters - Vivienne (companion) - The Iron Bull (companion) - Solas (companion) - Sera (companion) - Blackwall (companion) - Dorian (companion) - Josephine (Advisor) Here's a lineup of the companions and advisors Romance - Romance has been a debated topic among Bioware for a while now, and many believed for a time that there would not be the inclusion of romantic options in Inquisition. However, recently, lead writer David Gaider has stated that they will not be excluding romances from Inquisition - however, future series might. - All the romance options have been confirmed, as well as their sexual orientation. There are 8 romances in total, with 2 being race-specific. Female-Only: - Blackwall - Sera - Cullen (human/elf) - Solas (elf) Male-Only: - Dorian - Cassandra Bisexual: - The Iron Bull - Josephine Factions - There are new factions and old factions, and VERY important factions in DA:I. I will most likely be adding more information about each faction soon, so stay tuned. Here's the list as of now: Old Factions - Mages - Templars - Demons - Seekers - Grey Wardens New Factions - The Inquisition - Red Templars - Venatori Creatures - Some new creatures have been confirmed from either Bioware employees themselves and new trailers. There's also a lot more that have been shown, but we don't know anything about them or what they're called, so we're unsure if it's important. But here's some of the more prominent ones: - Behemoth - Nightmare - Troll - Fear Demon Locations - Bioware has repeatedly stated how massive Inquisition will be - larger than both games combined, and THE largest game they have ever created. It is also being considered an open-world game, where you will be able to wonder to your heart's content. That being said, there are some very interesting locations planned into the game, and we are all very excited to visit these places we have only ever heard about before. - Orlesian Empire - - The Dales - - - The Emerald Graves - - - The Exalted Plains - - - Emprise Du Lion - - - Halamshiral - - - - The Winter Palace - - The Western Approach - - - The Griffon Wing Keep - - - The Adamant Fortress - - Skyhold - Ferelden - - Frostback Pass - - Crestwood Hills - - The Hinterlands - - Therinfal Redoubt - - Redcliffe - The Fade - Another important location within the game is your Inquisition's main HQ, or Keep (not to be confused with the internet application). A lot of information has been released concerning your headquarters, such as the ability to customize the look of your keep, and the kind of statistics it will represent. You can recreate them for fortune, strength, stealth, etc... as well as changing the interior. However, the changing of the decorations within the keep will not affect what it represents and what bonuses you derive from it. (phew!) Gameplay - The combat system and menus have been so enormously changed, people may not recognize Inquisition as a Bioware game (in a good way). As some people may have noticed, Inquisition is no longer a "strategy RPG", but rather an "action RPG", however this does not mean that the strategy has been taken out of the game. In fact, a new and improved strategy system has been implemented, along with the sorely missed 'top-down' view. Of course that isn't to say that you can't play in real-time, it's just that the Origin system is making somewhat of a comeback for people who missed it. - Many people will be happy to know that you can now change your companions' armor and weapons - something that was sorely missed in II. There will also no longer be excessive class weapon and armor restrictions. - The dialogue wheel is still here, along with voice acting and personalities. (There is rumored to be 4 voice actors that span across all races, for individuals to choose.) - We still have the classic weapons and combat styles, but with all-new interesting and effective abilities for each class and race. - There is now a multiplayer. It will not be required, and will have no attached achievements. (Thank God). There are individual characters and classes, and the teams will be made up of four. Kind of like a co-op. Engine - And last, but certainly not least, is the Frostbite 3 engine. With this brand new engine, there are so many things Bioware is able to do that they couldn't even hope to achieve in previous titles, such as: Animation: The animations so far are absolutely stunning. The combat is beautiful, the transition between walking and running is fantastic, and there are even different animations for sneaking, and kicking up sand in the desert. Locations: Now that they have the ability, there will be so much more variation between locations, it will be like each has its own personality - from different trees, grounds, architecture, everything. Graphics: From the looks of the demo, Inquisition is, in my opinion, far - far - more beautiful than Skyrim ever was. The animation of the trees swaying, the shadows, the colors... Just the style itself is breathtaking. I am definitely looking forward to seeing this first hand. Conclusion - After everything is said and done, I think that Dragon Age: Inquisition is going to be one heck of a game, and that now given the time they need to work on it, Bioware will be able to redeem themselves from the grave they seemed to have dug with the previous two. I'm looking forward to all the difference races, the characters and companions, and even just seeing how beautiful the game is for myself. Persoanally, I'm definitely pre-ordering! Also, if you want to check out the live demo I mentioned, here's a link: Dragon Age: Inquisition 30 min. Gameplay So, what do you think? Good? Bad? Are you going to play it? If so, what race are you planning to take your first look around in? What class? Are you going to be good or evil? Are you going to stick to the main quest, or run off and do whatever you want to? Go ahead - post some of your thoughts. Also, if you see any information that is missing or incorrect, please let me know and I will go in and change it. UPDATE: A new trailer has been released showing off the beautiful locations as they are now (Still in pre-alpha!) Check it out here: UPDATE: And yet another trailer has been released, revealing the release date and many more stunning in-game combat and cutscenes: UPDATE: More trailers! UPDATE: As the Dragon Age team seems to be uploading a freaking trailor every week, I would strongly advise you to simply subscribe to their YouTube channel. I will no longer be individually updating trailer links. Dragon Age YouTube channel |
I will give the game a chance. I loved the first one, hated the second one. I dislike Morrigan so the fact that she's in ANOTHER GAME makes me slightly irritated XP
I typically like playing elves (though the lack of the ending I wanted when romancing Alistair made me very upset...) Other than that, I'm not too sure as to how I'm going to go about everything, though I tend to favor the good side (unless it's Star Wars for some reason). |
Yeah, Bioware has made it a big point to let the fans know that they are listening. In an interview (I forgot which one), Gaider was saying that they literally have a list of all the main things people have complained about in II, and they are slowly checking it off as they go. So it's basically a mixture of the good point from both games (mostly Origins, lol). And I'm pretty sure you can kill Morrigan in the next game, so maybe that can be a goal for you, lol.
And as for the elf being dumped, I hear you. My first playthrough was like that, and I was definitely ticked off. (Although I DID reload it and let him stay a Grey Warden rather than be king... Which, consequently, let me stay with him... ehem. lol) Good side is good, yeah. I tend to be the kind of neutral in most games, however. Sided with the templars in II... Didn't really get me a whole lot of goodness points with that, but... Whatever. lol |
If I could kill her, that would be fantastic (though it sounds horrible to say). I had made one of every race and class to get the different opening scenes and played through on my mage the longest so I didn't need her... Wynn worked just as well too XD
I don't even think I made it far enough to side with anyone... The game was gorgeous and I loved the new form of combat and how quick it was, but I didn't like how it felt like my hand was being held the whole way and way too much time was passing without me doing anything. It's like, you complete a quest and then the cut scene says it's been 6 months, well, why couldn't I still play during those 6 months? I'm going to have to do some research at some point to see if and when they'll release the demo so I can try that, much like me hoping I'll get into Beta for Elder Scrolls online <3 |
Yeah... I guess I'm sort of obsessive that way. I did the same as you, what with the playing of each origin, but I played each through to the end, and with each gender. Because I'm awful at admitting that the game's over. lol And it might sound weird, but I didn't really like any of the female companions. Morrigan was too bi***y, Wynn wouldn't stop nagging me about being 'irresponsible', and Leliana was way too frilly for my tastes. I think I tended to take Sten, Alistair, and 'Dog' with me.
Yeah, the graphics were great - which was probably the only reason I kept playing to begin with. Once I finished, I was like 'Well that was AWFUL.' But then, later last year, I watched a video about the reason why Dragon Age II, and the way they set it up, was important. I honestly felt bad then, and replayed it in January. Suddenly understood. lol Still wasn't near as good as Origins, but it made sense at least. So far Bioware's said that they're not really planning to make a demo, however it's not completely out of question. Like a 35% chance they'll make one. You can, however, watch the 30-min 'Live Demo' that I linked in the OP. That was created in the summer of last year, though, so there's been a heck of a lot of progress since then. But still. lol As for the Elder Scrolls Online... I would play it, if not for the online aspect. Never was one for MMOs. |
I have one question though will dragon age be on xbox 360 and ps3 and the pc because I heard that they will be on the xbox one and ps4 and i don't have any of them and I wanted to know and I'm a huge fan of dragon age.
|
Yes, xserenityxninax, Dragon Age: Inquisition will be for 360, PS3, One, PS4, and PC. You needn't worry. The game itself is being created on the Frostbite 3 engine, which is a next-gen engine (made for next-gen consoles), and I think that that is the only reason it is being release for newer consoles. That, and by the time the game actually comes out, the consoles will already be a year old.
|
Okay that is good I heard it was on the ps3, xbox 360, ps4, xbox one, and pc before but then i heard only for xbox one and ps4 and I was hurt I am glad its for the xbox 360 and ps3.
|
Yeah, I hear you. Though I hardly worry about console version because, well, I'm a PC kinda girl, but I totally get it. My friend was wigging out the other day for the same reasons. Here's to a long line of amazing games on amazing consoles! lol
|
When I heard they were doing another Dragon Age I screamed scared my boyfriend but hey ho, I am huge fan of Dragon Age Origins and II <3
And I have fallen in love with everything I had seen and read about Inquisition OMG I am so excited |
I know, right? I've been keeping tabs on all the updates for almost a year now! I'm just so happy they're able to work on it for another year. Longer time = better quality. I hear the Keep could be out in only a little over a month though!
|
Shoot, you've really done your research. I'm gonna admit that I've never actually FINISHED Origins or II, but I do like the games, so I'm excited for Inquisition, and I am trying to finish them before the new game is released. I'm a huge fan of the Mass Effect series too, so the fact that Bioware is making a point of listening to fans now is a huge releif for me, I mean, the ending of Mass Effect 3, anyone?
Inquisition looks great and I really wanna play as a Qunari warrior lady. (well, not quite Qunari, because a warrior lady can't be following the Qun, but I forget the actual name of the race) |
Yeah... I'm a little obsessed. lol But yeah, you should totally finish the others before heading on to the next, but you've got tons of time, so don't worry too much. Anyhow Bioware said in an interview that they are making the Keep (the savefile maker thingie) so that you wouldn't have had to finish the previous games. Still, I would definitely recommend to keep going anyway just for the fact that they're awesome.
As for the Qunari race, there's a whole conspiracy around that. Yeah, the Qunari is a religion or whatever, but there was never really any specific name given for their actual race because 1) They don't see the point in it, and 2) No one else cares. As for the fans, however, we have decided that their race is the Kossith - and Bioware has also called then this - but they have stated that it probably won't actually be in the game (mostly because casual players don't know as much). |
I've added updates do the Race, Characters, Romance, and Locations categories. I've also added some new categories (Factions and Creatures) if you guys wanna check them out.
|
Interesting stuff, thanks for keeping us updated! I am one of the few (?) that actually liked the story of DA2. The only bummer was that the romance options were unappealing to me & companion relationships overall seemed shallower compared to Origins. But, I loved the angle of having the narrator defending your character's "seemed right at the time but had huge repercussions" actions. Complex and risky storytelling that worked, for me. /shrug
|
I know, right? I actually really liked the plot of DA2. I think it was a bit of a domino effect with the amount of haters. A few here and there didn't like it, and so others said the same to 'fit in'. There's more people out there that loved the game than the haters let on. lol
As for the characters, I agree as well. Though I've heard rumors that there will be a romance option for everyone (including Cassandra and Cullen, the confirmed ones). I feel like these characters are going to be so much more in-depth than even DA:O. And I've also hear rumors of the Warden and Hawke doing cameos. Dunno how they're going to pull that off though. And the release date has been announced! I hadn't thought they would do that until E3, but I guess not. lol October 7th they say. Imma pre-order it soon. |
Cullen... I know the name but the face currently escapes me...
Hopefully they can stick to that release date! If that's the case, I may actually get to play it for a while before starting working for another convention XD |
Cullen is the templar guy who had a major crush on the female mage in Origins, then was a Knight-Captain in DA2. He's slowly made a bigger and bigger impact, and now he's a companion. He has such a huge fanbase that I guess Bioware decided to do some fanservice. lol (And the fact that the voice actor had no idea that he was so well-loved was adorable lol)
I know, right? A lot of games like to change it at the last minute. But I'm pretty sure that they're going to stick to it, given that EA was weary about giving them another year to begin with (otherwise it'd probably been out end of last year). And now that I've pre-ordered it, I can see it in my Origin library, but I just can't... play it! It's driving me mad. lol |
Oh that's horrible!
Cullen. How could I forget him? I wanted to romance him so bad in Origins.. Suddenly I care not of other romances XD |
I generally really loathe templars and anti-mage crusader types. Alistair was the only one I ever let into my
I should get all the DLC I missed & play it in preparation for fall. :) |
I loved Alistair, but hated the end when I wasn't a royal human... When I made my mage I went out of my way to find and pester Cullen. He made me love the idea of Mage/Templar romance XD
|
BellyButton: Strange, because I always loved the templars. Pretty much have the same mindset as them, I guess. I mean, not the cruelty to mages part, but more like the vigilant guards who keep order. Also, I'm pretty sure that Varric, the dwarf dude you mentioned from DA2, will most likely be romancable. *does a little dance*
ISOS Duke: lol Pretty much why after a long line of mage characters that couldn't keep him, I'm too excited that the third one will finally get some lovin'! :) |
It's sad that the fact that he's romancable is going to be one of the leading forces that get me to buy this game. Yes, I'm super excited that it's another Dragon Age game, but Cullen, be still my beating heart XD
So, from what I read at the top, this game takes Origins combat style back or is it a rather forgiving combat style? After playing II and other real-time games, I find that play through more enjoyable that micro-managing everyone. Then again, I don't recall stopping time at all during my time playing Origins >.> |
lol Don't worry, I feel like a lot of people are going to feel that way. You're not alone. :)
As for the combat system, I'm thinking it'll be a lot like Origins in the way it plays (such as pausing and issuing orders, but only if you want to of course), but the actual effects and graphics and pace are going to be much more like DA2, except a lot better even because of the engine. Basically, it'll be pretty, and you can play it like Origins if you want to. Personally, I'm going to be much more real-time with my combat. I could never really get the hang of pausing to tell everyone what to do, you know? |
I enjoyed real time as well. I don't know if I knew you would pause time in the original game or not. At least I don't remember doing that >.> If they give both options though, that would be good.
