Um...hello?

I just joined a few minutes ago. Please excuse my appearance. I am feeling a bit underdressed. I checked my inventory and there are no starter clothes there, and I didn't see a place to select a starter outfit. No money yet either. Did I miss something or is this just the normal way to start on this site? I guess I will go try some games to hopefully earn some money to go shopping. This really does look like an interesting place!

Maria-Minamino 03-21-2014 09:57 PM

Suzanne Sky: - That's the way we start on mene. We are all naked D: XDDD But fear not! For we have Newbie Emporium that sells clothing for cheap prices: http://www.menewsha.com/shops/index....viewshop&id=35 So you will be dressed in no time flat!!

You can also earn gold by posting too :) You can earn up to 30 gold per post. The more characters you have, the more gold you earn. Just be careful not to spam for gold ;)

What are some of the things you like to do?

Suzanne Sky 03-21-2014 10:12 PM

Thanks SO much for the answer, Maria-Minamino! And - ugh - I have been reading just enough to be even more confused here. I know I'll 'get it' eventually, but I feel like a total dolt at the moment. LOL! For instance, what is 'pinging' and how/where do you do it? I guess it is contacting someone, but not by a pm?

Anyway, on to your question. I like reading (just finished The Little Friend by Donna Tartt and In The Woods by Tana French), art (painting, collage, assemblages, guerrila art stuff, etc.), history, tromping around in old cemeteries, gardening, learning about native plants, farmers markets, tv (TOO much!), the internet (Of course!), video games (all Sims, all Harvest Moons, even Viva Pinata and Animal Crossing), and probably a million more things that I can't think of at the moment. I just recently found out about vision boards and they sound fascinating, so I am trying that too. Thanks for the friendliness, and I hope I didn't get in trouble for not quoting your message???? (See, I told you I read just enough around this site to be totally confused!) LOL!

Oh you don't have to quote messages! Actually, most people don't - I just do so I can see what I'm replying to as I type the message :P

To ping, you have to use an @ symbol first. Then put the person's username. And then add the ; sign after it. It looks like this @ enterusernamehere ; ....but without the spaces between the @ symbol, name, and the ;. This will send them a message saying someone is talking about them and lead them directly to the post. It's handy when you want to get someone's attention :)

Don't let all the words confuse you :) You can do many things here - talking in the forums, role play, word games, arcade games, art stuff, avatar making stuff, hangouts, etc. The biggest 'rule" is that there is no spam. Think of us as gaiaonline without the trolls and spam basically :P

LOL what are your favorite TV shows - or can you not narrow it down since you like it so much? XD

Suzanne Sky 03-21-2014 10:34 PM

Agh... my favorite tv shows! Let's see... currently, they are Survivor, American Idol, Amazing Race, Teen Mom, The Middle, Modern Family, The Dead Files, CSI (Las Vegas version), Project Runway, various crime dramas like Forensic Files, 20/20, Dateline, The Haunting Of..., and I know there are more, but that's just what I remember now. Shameful, isn't it?!

I'm thinking I should probably fill out a profile some place, right? Oh, and as for pinging, WHERE do you type that to actually ping someone?

You would type in the ping when you are posting in a thread. :) As you are making the reply in a thread, go ahead and add the @ enterusernamehere ; in your comment. You can try it on my name if you would like!

I used to be so into Project Runway XD I even met Christian Siriano shortly after his season ended! But I had to stop watching because I could never watch it due to schedule stuff!!

I love crime dramas myself - but I looooove Law and Order SVU the most :D XD

My favorite series are Law and Order: SVU, Psych (which is ending this coming week :( ), and Revolution!

Suzanne Sky 03-21-2014 10:51 PM

Oh, yeah - those are good shows too. I used to watch Law and Order SVU, but got away from it when I got busier and then got into other shows. I saw a little bit of Psych last night and it looked really good. I wished I had started with it when the season began. Revolution.... I have forgotten about that one. It seems like I was aware of it, but it got lost in the mix somewhere along the way. It happens... Christian Siriano is one of my all time favorites on Project Runway!

Okay, I get the ping thing now. :) THANKS! And I really do appreciate you taking the time to talk to me and answer questions. :)

Well, I've got to dash now - chores. Tending the animals and seeing what's for dinner, writing in my journal and then I hope to be back on here to sort more of this out. :)

Maria-Minamino 03-22-2014 02:23 AM

Psych is much better when you watch it from the beginning of the show :) Because as the characters grow up it's just nice to see! Christian Siriano is definitely my favorite ever! I actually liked Chris and Sweet P from his season as well!!! I really liked Leanne from the following season too...her stuff really spoke to me.

OoO - what animals do you have?

Suzanne Sky 03-22-2014 04:15 AM

You have a good memory. I forget most of the designers as soon as the season is over. But I do remember Sweet P...and I think Chris, too. Wasn't he the one that made costumes before he was on the show?

As to animals, we have five dogs and twenty-four chickens. We raise the chickens for eggs to use and to sell. As for the dogs, they are pretty useless but we love 'em, love 'em, love 'em. LOL! They do bark when something's going on that shouldn't be though. All except one are 'rescues'. Or rather, they were homeless volunteers, actually. How about you? Do you have any pets ....or livestock?

Hahaa I have a good memory in some areas...but not in other areas XDD But yes! Chris is the one who made the costumes! I really love costume work so I just really loved his stuff!!

WOW! That's a lot of animals!! It must be nice to have fresh eggs at least!! (although I don't eat eggs lol).

My family has two cats: Psycho and Eddie. They were both "rescues" in a sense - we found Psycho outside the restaurant my stepdad manages when he was a kitten...and we put up signs and no one claimed him so we kept him. We named him Psycho because he LOOOOVES water! And Eddie was found in someone's attic as a kitten and was put up for adoption, so we have him too! And then my dad has two tanks of fish - fresh and salt.

I personally don't have any. I want a cat of my own really badly...but I have a roommate who has a cat who is super bitchy and alpha so I'm pretty sure she would eat another cat lmao XD So I'm going to wait until I'm not living with her cat anymore :P I also want to wait until I know I'm going to be in one place for a while. My roomie and I are unsatisfied with our apartment this year so we plan to move again over the summer. And who knows after the next year if we'll be in that same apartment or not.

Suzanne Sky 03-22-2014 04:30 PM

Oooh, kittehs! I would love to have a cat or two. But with our dogs, I don't think it is a good idea. Plus cats would reap havoc on the bird population here. We kind of keep an unofficial 'bird sanctuary' (LOL!) on our acreage. When we lived in town, we had a lot of cats over the years. Most were dumped in our neighborhood. We lived on a busy corner and were always acquiring surprise cats and dogs. It cost us a fortune to get them all spayed and neutered. And still does with with dogs, although we haven't gotten any new ones since last year.
When we moved from our house in town, we let some relatives move in, so just left the 2 outdoor cats there for them, to which they happily agreed. So we are catless, and likely to stay that way for a long, long time. :/ Oh, well, at least we have the dogs and those are very special to us.
Hopefully things will fall into place so that you can get your own cat before too awfully long. :)

Holy cow, Suzanne! I didn't realize you're new here! Welcome to Mene :)

Which genre(s) do you enjoy reading? I'm currently reviewing some YA fantasy/sci fi for my 16yo who is homeschooled and we're building a mini library.

Suzanne Sky 03-24-2014 12:16 AM

Thank you so much, Elmira Swift! I'm really happy to be here. :)

Reading...I read a lot of things. I just finished two books that I really liked - The Little Friend by Donna Tartt and In the Woods by Tana French. The first one is a southern gothic/suspense kind of book. The second is a detective/crime book, I guess you'd call it. I can't remember the last time I read something like that. Currently, I am going back to try once again to finish World War Z by Max Brooks. I liked the movie, but the book is really dry and from a military point of view. The premise is that of a reporter going around to various military types getting their memories of the zombie war to record it for history. If the first two sound interesting you can go to the book forum where I wrote more about them and their plots. I enjoy reading some YA too. Sometimes it seems like the plots of those are more unique and imaginative. Can I ask what book it is that you are reviewing? What books or kinds of books do you enjoy reading?

Elmira Swift 03-24-2014 01:41 AM

I'll definitely take a look for those books and authors! Trying to find engaging books for my daughter. Well-written, highly descriptive, and interesting plots. One of the more intriguing series we're reading is by Mark Frost and it's called the Paladin Prophecy. Basically, I'm trying to find book series to illustrate the progression of relationships between characters and plot. She became a bit burned out reading historic fiction, so I'm concentrating on the more joyful aspects of reading [;)]

Suzanne Sky 03-24-2014 09:52 PM

I just googled Paladin Prophecy and it sounds very interesting! I hope you find the joyful books you are looking for. Getting burned out on reading sounds ...just...awful. I hope she gets her groove back soon.

Thanks! We have quite a stash via digital downloads, so she is good for a while.

I see you've found some bee items! Fantastic!
