So for those of you who don't know, I'm absurdly cranky right now because of this Strict Paleo diet I'm on. No bread, pasta, rice, beans, sugar, potatoes, wheat, or anything processed for thirty days.
There is no way I will last thirty days. This is awful. I am angry ALL THE TIME and we're in the middle of week two of this thing. I've lost nine pounds but I'm seriously questioning if it's worth my mental health. What are YOU cranky about? |
Is this similar to a keto (I know it has a longer name, but brain fog) diet with what you're doing? Which paleo diet is it? Some allow veggies, others almost none. Do you have enough recipes? I can poke around and share some if you need them.
|
It is similar to one that induces ketosis. It allows veggies as long as they're not legumes, grains, or potatoes. No dairy though. And no honey. My biggest problem is that *I* can't stand cooking meat. So I'm going hungry a lot more than I should because of the lack of meat in the house.
|
That is a problem if you can't find protein from other sources. That also rules out protein drinks, because most either have whey in them or the vegan options include soy/pea/hemp/rice. Which types of meat can you handle? Is fish okay? What about eggs?
|
Oh, I'll EAT meat, I just hate cooking it. It squicks me out majorly. I hate fish and I can only kind of handle eggs. I live with my parents and my mom is on this diet too, so I'm kind of relying on her to cook things like the meat, though I can kind of work with hamburger. With forks. I can't touch it. Cause yeah, there isn't much else protein wise you can eat on this thing. Soy is out because it's a legume, peas too. Rice is a carb, and hemp you can't find here.

sorry i'm so late <3

Well... I do understand about all that with meat. Hubster loves it and I had to just get in there and deal (not suggesting this for you!! just empathizing!).
In the future, if you're looking for protein drinks let me know. I'm going to check out a site that lets you mix your own base protein with a bunch of other stuff. Decent reviews and the company has been around a while now - and it's not a thing where you have to sign up and buy through someone else, it's through the company. You tell them what you want in it and they mix and ship to you. I've been using shakeology for a while, but the blends are giving me a weird reaction - possibly the dyes. AND it's expensive. I'm going to try out this other stuff, and it's maybe 20% cost of what we've been spending. I skip meals so a meal replacement/protein drink helps me not want to go postal. |
Yeah, I don't know what it is. I can do necropsies with no reaction, but touching just slimy, cold muscle makes me want to gag. Occasionally it DOES make me gag. I may take you up on the shake after I check if hemp is an option for this diet or not. Coconut aminos are.

I'm just cranky and so tired of being pregnant and I just have so much to do. -.- And I'm just so over it all. Blah.
End of May can't get here fast enough. :/ |
I can handle weird or gross stuff while in crisis mode or if it's interesting, but I have to be ok with the source of the meat. I tend to dump some things into the crockpot. I've had a hard time finding coconut aminos anywhere but online. Bragg's yes though - but they have soy and not even gmo-free. Are you finding aminos in your area?
|
*hugs* If it makes you feel better, every pregnant woman I have ever known feels a bit that way by the end. They're all SO ready to be done with pregnancy.
I'm in awe of you for going through it more than once! Pregnancy just terrifies me and I just think it's amazing that other people can do it at all. ---------- Post added 04-07-2014 at 06:00 PM ---------- Quote:
I haven't found coconut aminos yet, but I have a couple of other places to try. It's just not something that there is a lot of demand for, though. Soy is king. Which is annoying anyway because I'm allergic to half of soy products. |
If my boys asked me again to be their surrogate, despite being tired, I probably would say yes. But I really do need to give myself a break.
But I go through phases of loving it and I do enjoy at times being pregnant - just right now is not one of those moments. I just can't wait to hold her. I just miss being able to get comfortable when I sleep. Plus the heat that's back isn't helping. :/ I'll make it. I'll just not be totally happy with it. XD |
You did it. You actually did it. *claps*
What am I cranky (not to mention terrified) about? The end of winter. The coming of spring. STORMS. BUGS. I HAVE TO WATCH MY BELOVED SAFE WINTER WILT AWAY. *flips table* Horrible, horrible bugs! [cry] Don't get me started on all my bug horror stories. And then will come hot summer. Gross. Even worse. And then I'll have to hide from the bee and ladybug attacks of fall. I pretty much want to wrap myself in winter and never leave. I don't know how people do the thing where they pregnancy either. I don't know how people do the thing where they children. |
My little sister is terrified of prenancy - but seems to love watching my belly grow (so if it's me it's ok for her? Haha). But it's ok that she's not wanting to get pregnancy right now. A lot of those she went to HS with are getting pregnant and having kids already.
|
@Livi: Yeah, the only way I'd ever be pregnant is if my sister needs a surrogate (which IS a possibility). But you definitely need a break. Pregnancy is hard on the body, and I really pity any woman who is in late pregnancy anywhere near summer. Just being fat makes summer miserable for me. And I don't have all the hormonal changes and difficulty getting comfortable.
But at least in the end you get a really sweet little reward. @Amane: Poor girl. You really do need a perma winter. When you can live on your own I think Northern Canada my be the way to go for you. Just watch for polar bears. |
This is good, very very good.

I'm content living alone. The only person I'd want to live with would be someone preferably female who shares my interests and whom I can talk to about anything. No romance or anything. I have no interest in it.

I'm ok with medical trauma until it's over. Then I fall apart in a quivering heap. There's a brand of coconut aminos people told me about and I found them online. I think some of the whole foods places have them, just not regular grocery stores.
I'm in the early stages of menopause - or "the pause" as I call it. Don't miss pregnancy, but completely empathize with you Livi [hug]. The stuff they never tell you about with the Pause... I keep calling my mom and she'll say "oh, I forgot about THAT happening". Geez woman some warning? Been unable to work going on 3 weeks between my own illnesses, the kids and their illnesses/minor surgery, drama with hubster's job, and I am once again SICK today. Low grade fever, runny nose, and I sound like a heavy smoker. But I was able to watch the Hobbit again today. |
