Getting real tired of patronizing middle-aged ladies who come through the line at my register, whine about a sore shoulder, I compare "battle scars", and then they're all, "Oh, *looks me up and down with a condescending smile* you're too young to have problems. When you get to be my age, you'll know." Excuse me? I understand you're old and some parts don't seem to work like they used to but to completely discount my own pain is kind of a dick move. My right shoulder is stiff and sore from all the lifting and scanning, and when did age become a defining factor in pain? Yes, I am a bit of a wimp when it comes to pain (very low pain threshold) and I usually keep it to myself but the topic rears it's head and I want to identify with the person in question.

@beathag: I actually have tendinitis in both shoulders because of working retail.
D:
Also, carpal tunnel syndrome. Dx

Both my knees suck because of several years of wear and tear. [sweat]

Oh gosh, I hate when people are all "that's nothing compared to MY thing". [roll] Yes, because it was a contest. Admittedly, I am glad that I'm not old yet, and that for the most part, I heal faster, etc. But that doesn't make the issue any less. *hugs*
*hugs* I commiserate with you on shoulder pain. Mine is from carrying a big ass 30 pound bag to dance and tutoring and teaching. But shoulder pain is enough to make everyone cranky.

CloudDreamer 05-19-2014 10:32 PM

It shouldn't be a contest. Pain is pain, and no matter how old or young you are it doesn't make you someone who likes it. [yes] I have ankle pain, as well as pain at times in my right hip due to an injury I got from horseback riding - not all the time, but fairly often, and I have given up mentioning it because of that reason "You have no right to complain..." So I just live with it, and deal with it, but there are times that people see me limping and ask me what's up. Mmm, it's just the ankles acting up, as normal - but I'll not whine about them. I may walk a little slower when they act up, but I just go about my life.

But it really bothers me when people turn pain into a game, like they're better than you - or their pain trumps yours, because how do they know? They're not you, you're not them. Everyone's pain is different in a way, but no one likes pain. [yes]

steelmagghia 05-19-2014 10:47 PM

Indeed. I guess some people just want to have something to "win" at.

CloudDreamer 05-19-2014 10:48 PM

Yeah, just shows that they want to try to bring people down. So not cool or fun at all. :(

Elmira Swift 05-19-2014 11:35 PM

I am "old", but most of my aches and pains are due to injuries from 25+ years ago. Other than weirdly stiff joints, attributed to sitting on my butt for too long, I'm doing much better than most of my friends. The premenopause thing (I shall spare all details) is lame. Nothing else can be said for it.

We are back from a rather triumphant yet melancholy-inducing Girl Scouts meeting. We still have no idea if we will be able to stay in our house and I really did not want to be the one to bring down the excitement at the event, so I didn't say much. Soki was fine throughout and scored some interesting prizes for her activity during the year with our troop. One week of school remains, and we have some hard decisions to make within the next few days or weeks.

I've fought since my first husband died in 2005 to keep this house, and this new wrinkle with the people we financed with not paying the money (regardless of whether we paid) along with the increased criminal activity here is not inspiring me to pay another dime to stay. We have seen a few properties for sale or rent, but it all hinges on whether we can either save money or borrow it elsewhere to move.

So I went to the library today to do a few things online, such as apply for jobs and browse Menewsha. You know, important stuff. Anyway, my mom calls me and tells me that she had some things on reserve. Now lately, she's been told that she can't use her library card, so she's been using mine with my permission. Normally this is totally fine, because I keep her stuff in my sock drawer so I don't lose them and have to pay a fine for them. Well, I went to go check out the things she had on reserve and I found out that my account is blocked because of overdue dvds. I thought I returned them all, but apparently, she took two out of my sock drawer (the ones that our library so graciously requested from another library, so the fine is higher) and put them somewhere else. So I had to put them back on the shelf. I mean, it's really no skin off my teeth, I don't give two duck farts about her crochet books and the complete series of Bionic Woman. So I get home and figure out she had them in the drawer underneath the television!

Hurry up payday so I can pay that fine off.

CloudDreamer 05-20-2014 01:44 AM

Ugh that's annoying! At least you found them! Why can't you ask your mom for money to pay the fine that she caused you to get on your account?

Lexadis 05-20-2014 03:40 AM

Ow fines [gonk] could it be that your mum didn't know that they were due?

beathag 05-20-2014 03:52 AM

She knew they were due, she just forgot about them. And no, she can't pay the fine. She has no money. She has no form of income.

Lexadis 05-20-2014 03:55 AM

People do forget [yes] that being said, I have a whole lot of books past the due date and I'll have to get my money from my mum [lol]

steelmagghia 05-20-2014 04:59 PM

*hugs Elmira* I really hate that they've done this to you, hon.

Beathag....that's a little...irresponsible. It would frustrate me to no end.

Lexa, no fun. Also, your signature picture is creepy as all hell. [lol]

GUYS!!! I PASSED MY TEACHER CERTIFICATION EXAM! I still have to finish the class and do the year of teaching to be 100% certified, but the test was really the hardest part. I'm so happy!

Lexadis 05-20-2014 05:02 PM

Mission accomplished! [cool] [squee]
You did it! Woohoo! \o/

steelmagghia 05-20-2014 05:04 PM

Hehe, yep. I'm way happy about that. :)

Elmira Swift 05-20-2014 08:24 PM

Fantastic news, Steel!! [cheer]

As of this point in time, things are relatively calm. Nothing official yet, but the banker and lawyer working with him seemed to more responsive when I hassled both of them. I think there are only 4-5 of us still living here and consistently paying for our lots, so the banker is at least trying. Also seeing some movement happening with the abandoned houses in the form of work crews at some of them. Not sure if it's the banker for the land or the lenders for the houses, but the houses are being fixed, yards cleaned up and houses staying put instead of being removed or demolished.

Thank you all for your patience with me concerning this. When my first husband died in 2005, I found myself having to fight to keep us in this house. When this new situation came up, I kept my wits about me for a few days until things were looking bleak. So, my apologies for being a bit more tense than usual. I really thought (and still am not 100% sure this won't happen) we would be told to leave. Thank you all as well for prayers, good vibes, etc.
