Sim shifted her weight. "The couple called, asked me if I would be willing to help them out again," she said, carefully not looking at Tony. Because she expected him to explode.
Tony's gaze sharpened at that.
"Excuse me?" he said. He shook his head. "No, sorry, not happening." |
Sim shook her head a bit. "I told them I'd have to call them back," she said. "Figured you two would want to know."
"Tell them no," Tony said. "Can't, won't, I don't care. You're not doing it."
Sim frowned a little at him.
"Yeah? Thought you were already reconsidering this." She made a vague motion between the two of them. |
"I won't have my Omega going and having another Alpha's kid," Tony said flatly. "Not going to happen."
That made her blink. So he was still claiming her. That was a good sign.
"I'm sure they'll understand," she said cautiously, eyeing him, because she wasn't sure that she understood. |
"They'd better," Tony said. "Because you're not going to do it." And that was the end of it, as far as he was concerned. Because he would not tolerate his Omega bearing a child that wasn't his or Bruce's. He could tolerate knowing she already had a son (his all-nighter in the garage saw to that) but that was as far as he would bend.
Sim kept eyeing him. She couldn't figure out what was going through her head, and decided that maybe a bit of distance would be best again. So she moved over to see if there was some extra water for tea and check on Bruce.
Bruce was already half-way through his cup of tea, and the greenish tinge had faded from his skin. He was calmer now that he knew Tony was of the same opinion he was, and that Sim wasn't going to leave them. Or if she planned to, they still had time to convince her not to.
Sim took some of the leftover hot water and poured it into a mug for tea for herself. She stayed quiet, though, waiting on them to say something.
Tony and Bruce were silent as well for a few moments.
"Go and make the call," Bruce finally said. "Then, there's breakfast." |
"Alright." Sim left the kitchen to make the call, though, since she figured she might as well check up on her son too while she had them on the phone, and she didn't need Tony and Bruce listening in on that.
But she did return only ten minutes later to help with breakfast. |
By the time she got back, Tony had already migrated into the living room to try to bully the TV into giving them American channels. Bruce, however, was busy frying eggs in the kitchen.
Sim got out plates for them and made sure there was still plenty of coffee for Tony. She also put more water on to boil for tea, in case Bruce wanted more.
"So what's the verdict?" Bruce asked quietly once breakfast was ready.
"They wished me well, said that if I ever change my mind to give them a call." Sim shrugged. "Nothing out of the ordinary."
"Alright." Bruce was quiet for a moment. "I hope we didn't upset you earlier."
"It's fine. Didn't expect you to be happy about it." Sim shrugged again. "Didn't expect you to be fine with me having a kid already, either."
"It's a little easier for me than it is for Tony," Bruce said. "Though I wouldn't exactly say either of us is really fine with it quite yet."
"Never would have guessed," Sim said sarcastically, making Tony's coffee the way he liked it.
"Don't hold it against Tony," Bruce said, watching her. "He's essentially trying to reconcile the fact that you have a prior claim on you that he can't fight."
"I'm not, and it's not a prior claim," Sim said, looking at him. "It was a one-time thing. I have no rights to my kid, we all signed all the paperwork, there were no bonds made, no marks left. Nothing for him to compete with."
"Officially, yes," Bruce agreed. "It's not quite that simple when it comes to instincts. Tony's instincts are telling him that his Omega chose to have the child of another Alpha, and that you will always have that bond that he has to worry about. Not to another Alpha, but to your son, who isn't Tony's."
Sim shook her head. "It's never going to be an issue," she said. "I haven't seen him in six years, I doubt I'll see him now." She hadn't actually meant to say that, but she was a little frustrated.
