"Great, thanks Cas." Sam smiled and turned his horse around, making sure Tammy was with him before he started back for the house. "Do Dean and our guest know?"
|
Cas nodded.
"I spoke with them first," he replied. |
"Good, we don't have to worry about that." Sam grinned. "Well, guess it's time to head back. Shall we?" He grinned at Tammy.
|
Tammy grinned back.
"Let's go," she agreed, turning her horse around as well. Satisfied that the two were coming back, Cas also headed back towards the ranch. |
Sam let Cas take the lead back to the house and he got the horses untacked and back in their stables before he made his way inside.
Laura had also helped to take care of the horses before heading inside to wash up, though she was still a little cautious. |
Tammy was much less cautious as she went inside to wash up for dinner. Once she was, she went to find Mary. It was a nice day out, so she had a sneaking suspicion that they were going to use the table out back, rather than the one in the dining room.
Once Dean had gotten the horses settled and washed up, he automatically went to help his mother set the table. He didn't even pause when he saw Cas already there helping out. He knew that Cas had this thing about lending a hand where he could. |
Mary smiled as she set up the table outside with her helpers. She saw Tammy and grinned.
"Tammy, dear, good to see you again. Did you bring someone else with you this time?" She walked over to give Tammy a quick hug. |
"Good to see you too, Mary," Tammy said, returning the hug. "I brought my cousin along with me this weekend, if that's alright? The boys said I could."
|
"Of course it's alright," Mary said. "I'm glad she could make it. The more the merrier after all."
Laura had to be herded out to the table by Sam, who just looked amused. Laura looked kind of uncertain still. |
"Relax," Tammy said to Laura. "It's fine. They want you to be here." She grinned as she sat down next to Sam, ending up across from Cas. John and Mary had the ends of the table, with Cas nearest John and Dean nearest Mary on their side of the table, keeping Laura in the middle.
|
Laura settled in cautiously, although she was starting to relax when she saw how relaxed they all were. Clearly this was okay, normal even.
Sam grinned and settled closer to Tammy than strictly necessary, but everyone knew they were dating so his parents didn't mind. |
Once everyone was seated, John nodded at Cas.
"Grace?" he asked. Cas nodded and gestured for everyone to join hands. Once they had, he bowed his head slightly. "Our Father in Heaven, we thank You for this meal which is before us and ask that You continue to watch over this family in all that it does. In Your name we pray, amen." There was a faint tingle in Tammy's hands as Cas said grace, though she ignored it for the moment. It happened every time she had dinner with them, and she had noticed that it never happened anywhere else. After a murmured round of 'amen' around the table, everyone let go and John began passing serving dishes around. |
Laura also noticed the tingle and she glanced at Cas but didn't say anything. That was definitely odd. She took some food, which all smelled delicious, and waited for someone else to start eating first.
Sam made sure he and Tammy both had plenty of food before he started eating. Really, this was normal for them, and he always made sure Tammy had enough first. So he ignored Dean's brief snicker. |
Everyone else started eating at about the same time, though Cas seemed to make sure everyone else had been served before taking any himself. Tammy just figured that was one of Cas's odd quirks, and had pretty much brushed it off already.
|
Laura raised an eyebrow a bit at Cas's quirk but didn't say anything, instead just settling in to enjoy her dinner. They certainly were an interesting family, at least.
|
Once dinner was over (and she had been suckered into slipping both Moose and the cat little tidbits), Tammy helped clear the table.
"Sam, why don't you go and make sure the fire pit is clear?" Mary suggested as she collected dishes. Cas also started to clear things off the table, gathering up serving pieces. |
Sam grinned briefly and went to go check the fire pit, grabbing wood and setting it up for the evening.
Laura was still for a moment before she gathered up a few plates as well to help carry everything back inside. Might as well. |
Taking everything into the kitchen, Mary put the dishes into the sink so they could be washed.
While she did that, Cas went around the kitchen, gathering the makings for s'mores. He gave Laura a gentle smile as he held out the package of bamboo skewers for her to take |
