Board Games
Hello all, Just wanted to see who else on Mene plays board games! Me and my friends play all the time because A board game cafe opened up this year in my downtown core area, so that was super exciting... So... what do you play? Favorites? Favorite place to play? Here's my ever growing list Lords of Waterdeep Catan Carcasone Tsuro Alhambra Game of Thrones 7 Wonder Wasabi Cards Against Humanity Smash Up Zombie Dice Love Letters Evil Baby Orphanage Clue Resistance Resistance: Avalon Coup King of Tokyo Takenoko Stratego Revolution Masquerade Once Upon A Time Scategories Balderdash Quelf Ghost Blitz Forbidden Desert Blokus Checkers Chess Monopoly The Game of Life Snakes and Ladders Trouble Sorry! Operation Jenga, Tetris Jenga, Jenga Boom Guess Who, Guess Who Marvel Citadel Letters of Marque Quarriors Dominion Empire Engine Rukshuk Oh gosh I'm forgetting but there are so many more! |
i have always wanted to try some kind of board game but i've never had brave enough (or nerdy enough lmao) friends to try it with me. i'm super into fantasy and scifi roleplay and escapism type stuff. i'll be going to visit my lady friend and her brother/his friends are super into d&d of all kinds so maybe he can help me out hahaha.
|
That would be great! Board games are super fun (And under rated!). I've played a few rounds of D&D myself - but my group always plays when I work so I can't really join in on any long-term quests. You can also play certain games online with other players. :) I got really into Blockus online at one point. Ehehe. |
Ooo, I love board games! [:D] I've been playing a bunch with a group of fellow foreigners in my city for the last couple of years. Unfortunately the guy who owns most of the games is going home this summer, but I bought a few off of him. The only games I currently own are Carcassonne, The Little Prince, Hanabi, and Love Letter. I'd like to get more someday! I'm thinking of starting to play some online too. I really like 7 Wonders and several others with digital versions.
Never played D&D but I'd be willing to try it someday. [yes] |
I love BoardGames!!
Just wish that more people I knew were more interested in playing them also. Makes it difficult to have an adventure when no one else wants to explore. I didn't see Munchkin on your list of games. Have you heard of it before? Its a table top game, played with Cards and Imagination. There are several different decks, all of which are able to be used together to expand the game and playing field. I only have the Superheroes version so far, but it is a ton of fun. The first play through is always long and tedious, because of learning and what not. After that its easy as pie to just get into the game and kick monster butt as well as your Friend's butts. I have had games with up to eight people before and its pretty hilarious to team up on people in order to try and curve the game in your favor. |
I have heard of it, and some friends and the board game cafe both have it. I just haven't gotten to it yet. It is definitely on my list though. :)
|
Oh thats good. I know its not the MOST exciting out of all the table top games. But its one of the very few I have played. I am pretty in love with it.
Have you heard of an old old game called, Jewels In The Attic? It came out in 1992, and its no longer in stores. |
I have not. :O
I am currently waiting on my own copy of Evil Baby Orphanage though. x3 |
I don't play that much board games, sadly. I need people to play them with, haha!~
|
this thread is pushing me more and more to consider meeting up with my local gaming group. they meet in different places a few times a month and i might check em out soon :')
|
You really should! Gaming groups, from my experience, are full of super friendly people. It's a great way to meet people and have fun!
The cafe in my town is hosting a Catan tournament this Friday. And I miiiiight go? I have prior commitments, but if I have time I feel like it would be a good time. They also held a speed-dating game. Games of connect 4 to 'connect' with others. So cute~~ |
i'm nervous because i'd be going alone but what do i have to lose!
and omg that is adorable. i'd love to go to some kind of creative, game-oriented speed dating. it'd be super cute and it wouldn't feel like speed dating. i'm fine with first dates/don't get nervous but i can imagine how that atmosphere could be kinda helpful for someone too. |
Well, I'd love to know how it goes if you do go! I'm always interested in hearing about peoples experiences with games, and what games they've tried.
I've added Takenoko, Stratego, and Revolution to my list of - have played recently. :) |
I do not play board games. They are quite boring to me; not giving me any excitement or joy. I prefer real life games like chase and hide and seek. Usually games in which my
|
A board game cafe sounds dreamy.
|
Gosh, I made my boyfriend buy Takenoko when I saw it being played online. I think it was a good investment, despite it being $50. :P It's complex enough that adults will like it, but simple enough to draw in kids.
|
I love board games but everyone around me prefers being on their phones all the time instead of playing games with me. [illgetu] The Game of Life and Cards of Humanity are definitely my two favorites, but I've always hated Sorry! haha
|
Dreamy, cute, wonderful - all of the above! It's really quite nice, the owners are super nice - and young. There is local artist's art all over the walls. It's just been a really cool place for our community. They host events there, its good for all ages, and its something to do that doesn't cost a lot of money. :)
Perhaps they're just playing board games online with there phones! (One can dream) I find board games under rated. Most people seem to thing that games like Cards Against Humanity, Balderdash, Game of Life, etc... (While all awesome games) are the only ones out there. It's my goal in life to convert more people into board game lovers. |
That place sounds really cool, I wish I had somewhere like that to play board games nearby me. It seems like a really good way to bring a community together. (Or in the case of Monopoly, have people fight with each other over what spaces they own [lol])
|
My group of friends and I have recently become board game addicts because we are also super cool like you! Totally not losers :D
I've got: Pandemic Say Anything Battle of the Sexes ImagineIF Cards Against Humanity Apples to Apples Smash Up Munchkins SmallWorld Game of Thrones Battlestar Galatica Clue Stratego Elder Sign Buzzword Forbidden Island Chess Monopoly Summoner Wars Scategories Jepordy Sybarit Taboo Cranium Pictionary BUT I want Once Upon A Time so bad! It looks so much fun! I was thinking about ordering it the other day, is it fun to play? |

The last game I played was called "Nothing Personal". It's a mobster themed game and it was pretty fun. Unfortunately it had some issues with some card rules being unclear/confusing but the theme was nice and I'd like to play it again. I've also been playing a version of "One Night Werewolf" lately that has been really fun. I'm tempted to make my own set of cards to play with since all you need is the app which is free. |

I love love love the artwork on the character cards, but yes.. my group has sometimes had games that lasted around 5 hours. You lose track of time when playing GoT drunk apparently. The expansion packs seem to play a little faster, as there are less rounds, and everyone starts off with larger armies that just seem to promote conflict. Quote:
Once Upon a Time is really cute, I play it with my little and we both love it. You really need a good group that play with though, I've had some pretty boring games with unimaginative people who just card drop to try and win. I find it a really good in-between game. |
I have played bored games in the past. but there is one you can play online Board Game Online it is fun if you play with one person are in a group.

-rolls around in Femme's board game collection-
Coup, Resistance, and Love Letter are a few of my favorite games! Easy to teach, easy to learn, short and sweet, but with plenty of hidden depth. It's nice to see them in others' collections. I'm interested in trying Masquerade as well; I believe that's a Bruno Faidutti game? He is the designer of Citadels, another of my favorite games along that same vein. :) Also, hi Robutt, I heard you like BSG the board game! That's definitely one of my favorites when I have the attention span for a four-hour game. But I really like hidden role mechanics, so that's a large part of why. BSG is also my favorite television series. :P I'll come back here and post a list of my collection at some point. o3o For now, enjoy a picture of it! Alright, here is the contents of my game collection: Galaxy Trucker (plus all expansions) Cosmic Encounter (plus all expansions) Battlestar Galactica (plus two expansions) Coup The Resistance Citadels Hanabi Innovation Takenoko Space Alert Android: Netrunner (plus some expansions) Hive Shadow Hunters Tales of the Arabian Nights Cutthroat Caverns Space Cadets: Dice Duel Twilight Struggle Diplomacy Scotland Yard Balderdash Dixit Pandemic Fiasco Scrabble (three of them, in fact) Acquire Munchkin Clue |
