He heard noises in the forest. Something moving around. Blaine made a face, and stood up. "Well anyway, it's getting late." The young man lifted his arms to the sky, and then swatted a bug. Loudly. He yawned too for good measure, and cracked his knuckles. Fintan had to get away safe and sound. The deerling was the only thing there to keep him from going insane while his friends traipsed through the forest looking for ghosts that weren't even there.

Taking his chance, Fintan bolted while distracting noises overtook the ones he couldn't avoid making. He ran until the fire was just a distant memory, and all the things he had been introduced to. Match. Shoe. Tent. That thing that buzzed and gave off a painful white-blue light. He didn't like that thing very much. Finding his bag abandoned where he'd left it, Fintan was glad to see most of his things were still inside. Grasping it tightly in his hand, Fintan hurried home, slipping into his cottage and closed the door tightly. Of course it wouldn't stop anyone that wanted in. His windows had no glass. Setting the bag beside the door, Fintan dragged himself up the stairs to the loft. He was so tired suddenly. Everything had compiled as soon as he found himself in familiar territory. Crawling onto his bed, he rubbed his ears against the soft woolen covers and closed his heavy eyelids.

The moment he was sure Fintan had escaped, Blaine relaxed. He grinned, and waved at his friends. "Look, I'm going to turn in now." Blaine ignored the crackling fire. Wood smoke drifted from the orange-red flames. Blaine sneezed and shook his head.

"Aw come on! Spoilsport!" Carter said.

Blaine shrugged. Zip and swoosh. The tent opened like a cocoon. The young man slid inside with a sigh. This was too surreal. First he met a deerling. Now he needed to hide the existence of that very same deerling from his ghost hunting friends. Great.

Fintan's ears twitched in sleep, and he shook his head hard, nearly waking himself up. He kept dreaming about strange things, mostly what he was shown before he managed to get back home. Shoes... Tent... Lantern... The clothes that didn't look like his at all. He twisted and suddenly, jolted awake when he hit the floor. Moaning, Fin pushed himself up and rubbed his head, getting to his feet and rubbing his hands through his long hair. Staring for a moment at his bed, Fin shook his head. There was no way he was getting back to sleep now. He trudged downstairs, going into his kitchen and digging through a hanging bag to find a pear. From across the cottage he stared out into the night through the glassless window. What was that human up to? He could barely see the light of the dying fire.

The young man fell into a fitful sleep. When a few hours had passed, moonlight slipped its way into the tent. The low across his eyes woke Blaine. He sat up and wriggled out of his cocoon-like sleeping bag. He tried reading by lantern light. Then Blaine warmed up some water over the fire and made a cup of hot milk. That didn't help either.

Cute ears and wide eyes kept popping into his head. Blaine settled down by the fire with a sigh, and stared at the flames. They kept dancing around each other. Logs were slowly crumbling down, veins of red slipping into their flesh and skin, until they collapsed into tiny glowing dark bits. Blaine shoved a stick into the mess of wood and flames. For a few seconds, the fire flared, then he threw on more logs and it became a steady warm glow again, and not the sputtering thing it had been only moments before.
