"What about you?" Liz's gaze flicked to him briefly. "What do you do when you're not helping save the world?"

"Not much," Bucky admitted with a bit of a shrug. "Haven't found much I like to do, yet."

Liz nodded her agreement of that and made a little 'aha!' noise, moving a few wires around before reassembling the phone.

"Should be better now," she murmured, more to herself than to him. This close to him, she could feel an odd almost mechanical sensation in her left arm that she knew was from him, and could only hope he didn't get the scrape of Extremis under his skin like she did.

Unfortunately, Bucky did feel the echo of something surging under his skin that he knew was coming from Liz. Lucky for her, however, he had no idea what it was. He did give her a bit of an odd look, though.

Liz ignored it and grinned instead.

"So, regular coffee this time around? Not much of a fancy drinks person are you?"

"Not really," Bucky said. "Coffee's coffee. Why's it need to be fancy?"

"Because clearly some insane people don't like the taste of coffee and wish to disguise it," Liz said with a snort. "I can't take mine black, but a dollop of cream usually does it for me."

"I got used to it black," Bucky said, glancing at his coffee. "Though I'll take it with some sugar, when I can. Knew a guy who liked butter in his."

"Butter?" Liz blinked. That was a new one. "Okay, then. Whatever floats his boat, I guess."

Bucky shrugged.

"Never could figure out why he liked it," he said. "But he did. I was just fine with some sugar. Syrup, sometimes."

"That could be interesting," Liz allowed. "Ever tried tea? It's kind of nice sometimes, take a break from the coffee."

"Tea?" Bucky asked, raising an eyebrow. "No. Used to give it to Stevie when he was sick, but I never had it myself. Just coffee."

"Tea can be good," Liz said. "Especially when you've had one too many cups of coffee." Not that she had much of a problem with caffeine anymore, but still. Had to pretend to be normal.

Bucky just snorted softly. It was really hard for him to have one too many cups of coffee anymore.

"I think I'm good with coffee," he said.

Liz nodded and played with the phone a bit, making sure it worked right, before handing it back to the waitress. Then she leaned back in her seat, stretching a bit and popping her shoulders.

"So, pancakes or waffles?"

Bucky blinked.

"Either one," he said after a moment. "Doesn't matter to me." It was taking him a while to form preferences again after having shaken the Winter Soldier programming, and there were a lot of things he hadn't had a chance yet to grow an opinion about again.

"Pancakes are always better." Liz caught the cook's eye and grinned, and he shook his head but went to make some pancakes for her. "Clearly I've been here too often, they don't even have to ask me anymore."

Bucky snorted a bit.

"Stevie's got a couple of places like that," he said. "All he has to do is sit down and they just know." In the back of his mind, his Winter Soldier training muttered that it was dangerous to be so predictable, but he ignored it.

"It's nice, in a way," Liz said. "Even though it does make me predictable." She shrugged. "Oh well. No one's after me today, I can sit and have pancakes."

Bucky blinked. He was dead certain he hadn't said that out loud.

"Why would anyone be after you?" he asked carefully, watching her. It had been an interesting choice of words.

Liz shrugged. "Happens from time to time. People thinking I know secrets, or people thinking I'm unnatural, things like that. Hasn't happened in a year or so, though." What she didn't say was that they happened to be right.

Bucky just raised an eyebrow. Somehow, he got the feeling that she wasn't telling all the truth, but he didn't call her on it just yet. He was the last person to be trying to call out other people's secrets.

Liz shot him a cheery grin. "Nothing to worry about," she said. "Not that you'd be in any danger anyway, although I suspect you rarely are anymore unless you're out doing something reckless with the rest of them."

Bucky shrugged a bit.

"I'm usually up out of the way," he said. "Perks of being trained as a sniper."

"Ah." Liz blinked at the brief image of looking down at the city from a good vantage point, not even minding the wind ripping at her clothes. And then she blinked again and it was gone. "Yeah, I see what you mean."
