"I didn't say I would, I said I'd leave it up to you," Tony pointed out. "It would take a little while, anyway. A weekend, maybe."
|
Heather looked at him for a moment, considering that. She had to admit, she liked technology, and he was offering to upgrade everything for free.
"Just watch all the bells and whistles around Kaelas," she said finally. "You really don't want to startle a hunting-cat." |
Tony flapped a hand. "We'll wait on Jarvis for now, see how things go." Because he was being practical, for once. Although not so much out of a sense of maturity as because he didn't want to share Jarvis unless he knew it would work here. "We'll start with the rest of the tech in this house."
|
"Well, apparently I can't stop you," Heather said with a bit of a grin. "Might as well go for it."
|
Tony grinned. "Jarvis, take note of that, she agreed," he said, nearly cackling as he went to explore the rest of the house and find all other tech that needed to be upgraded.
|
"Let me know before you start any major remodeling!" Heather called after him. She sat down on the couch with a sigh and stretched a bit.
|
Charles chuckled, having walked in on the last bit of the conversation.
"Tony can be hard to get used to," he said, easing down into another chair. |
"Is that a late warning or an early apology?" Heather asked, glancing over at him. "And you don't look mauled, so I'm going to assume Kaelas likes you."
|
"A bit of both, I suppose," Charles mused. He flashed her a quick smile. "And Kaelas and I get along fine so far. He has deemed me acceptable."
|
"Good," Heather said. She grinned a bit. "He's a softie. I guarantee he'll want to be brushed out tonight, he loves that."
|
Charles chuckled and nodded. "Well, if he wants me to, I would be happy to oblige," he said with a bit of a grin.
|
"He might just do that," Heather replied, grinning. She was quiet for a moment. "And just so we're clear, I don't expect either you or Tony to start throwing money at my problems. I would never ask you to."
|
"Of course not," Charles soothed. "I may offer, but you don't have to feel obligated, either." he paused for a moment. "If, however, you do decide that you want me to help with things like grocery and electric bills, that sounds entirely fair to me."
|
"We'll see what happens," Heather said. "I'm reasonably sure neither one of you is going to live here full-time like Daemon does, so it may not be an issue."
|
"We'll see," Charles agreed with a little smile. Because he didn't mind contributing to the good of the house, although he would wait for permission first.
|
It took a few weeks for them to settle into a comfortable routine. Heather had keys made for Charles and Tony, and made sure to let them know they were welcome whenever they wanted to drop in. She did notice that her house was slowly getting upgraded starting with, oddly, the toaster.
|
Tony made sure to bring supplies so that he could upgrade everything in her house (and he did mean everything, he'd even work on the heating and cooling if he ran out of projects). Charles helped out around the house in other ways, and he and Kaelas ended up bonding.
Daemon, fortunately, found that he didn't mind them in the house and settled in to the new routine easily enough. Lily was enjoying having Robin and Clint around, although she did notice that about half her pillows had vanished. But she didn't mind that. They were both highly entertaining and while they didn't live there full-time, they did make sure to spend a good amount of time with her. |
Clint and Robin were shameless when it came to the pillows. The puck had ended up with one (after having sifted carefully through them all to choose the one he liked the most) and Clint had ended up absconding with six to take into his room. Hey, pillow nests were the shit, and he wasn't going to pretend otherwise. Lucivar just snorted a bit at that. So far, they all seemed to settle well together, so he didn't mind letting them have the run of the place.
Things ran smoothly until the first call to assemble came in. Clint's phone chirped at him with a rather urgent-sounding text tone, and he immediately looked at it. His expression and posture changed slightly as he glanced at the text and then put the phone away. "I'll be back," he said to Lily. "Something just came up." |
"Alright," Lily said, frowning a little. She'd noticed the change but didn't comment on it, instead just rising to touch his arm lightly. "Be careful, okay?"
Tony got a text as well and glanced at it before he swore, setting aside his tools. "I have to go," he said, looking at Heather briefly. "Don't touch the upstairs TV, I'm still working on it, everything else should be safe ish, text me if anything drastic happens, I'll be back." |
Clint grinned at her.
"I'll be fine," he said. "I'll try to be back in time for dinner, so save me some." "Tony?" Heather asked, a bit concerned at the abrupt change. "Where are you going?" |
"As much as you want," Lily said with a little smile. "Just let me know when you're going to head back."
"Got the assemble call," Tony said with a shrug. "I'll be back, no worries." |
"I'll text you when I'm on my way back," Clint promised. With that, he headed out to meet with the others.
"Alright," Heather said reluctantly. "Just be careful, okay, Tony?" |
Lily nodded and settled in front of the TV to watch was going on.
Tony nodded. "I will," he said, heading for the door. "I'll be back in a jiffy." |
Robin settled down next to her, putting an arm around her waist carefully. He was still working out where the appropriate boundaries with her were.
Heather sat down on the couch, turning on the still-working tv to keep an eye on the news. |
Lily leaned into him, grateful for the contact. Cuddles were fine, getting handsy was not. But she could tell he wasn't going to do anything too bad, so she leaned into his side.
Charles came and settled in with her, as did Kaelas. "He'll be alright," Charles said gently, reaching over to offer her a hand in case she wanted it. |
