Pet Peeves

So we all got 'em. Lets discuss these horrendous little demons!
My main pet peeves are tapping, humming, whistling... Little, repetitive noises like that. It's so annoying and frustrating. I have a younger sibling who knows that and uses it against me all the time!! UGH!

So what are yours?

ugh, I dislike whistling as well D: but my biggest is mouth noises when eating. D<

Being touched without my permission bugs the hell out of me. Even with my parents, close friends, and boyfriends it kinda bugs me. Please, please, don't glomp me out of nowhere or just randomly put a hand on me...I don't have to give verbal permission but at least wait for me to acknowledge with a smile or something that I know you're going to touch me. I have a big space bubble and it freaks me out when people violate it.

Also, the sound of really loud chewing or the scraping of metal against teeth (like a fork) when someone is putting food in their mouth grosses me out.

Finally, people who text or talk on phones when I'm with them. That and being ignored in general when I'm trying to give you MY attention and have a convo with you. Such disrespect. Much hate.

One of my major ones is: People who scrape their fingernails on chalkboards, even thinking of the sound makes me just grimace.

I'm glad that I'm not alone!! [yes]

I had a teacher in High School that did it to get everyone's attention... til someone threw something at her.

CloudDreamer 10-08-2014 07:33 AM

Oh, that would have DRIVEN me insane!! D:

Till she stopped, I refused to go to class. Parents were not exactly happy with me, but I didn't care. Didn't need to hear that.

People who ask for advice but wont follow any of it.
Being touched without permission.
People who SQUEAL. It hurts like hell.
People who want to talk but wont contribute to the conversation.
Backstabbers.
People with those freaking ear pieces. Seriously. If you're not on the phone TAKE IT OFF!!

ElysiumFate 10-09-2014 09:28 PM

Not really a pet peeve, but Poet's post reminded me of when people have the bluetooth headset in and are talking to someone on it. However, they stare directly at you like they're talking to you and then they act like you are nuts when you say: "what?"

Alexander J Luthor 10-10-2014 08:33 PM

People on their phones when you're ringing them up. It's how I got moved to a floor position. One day I just sat there as the woman talked because she wasn't answering any of my questions, and the last customer on their phone yelled at me because I couldn't read their mind and know they wanted paper instead of the standard plastic, so we sat and she talked. Finally the person behind her started yelling, she started yelling at me, and the girl behind her started yelling at her for yelling at me. I used my discount on the second woman's order.

Also, to all those idiots who ask: Oh, am I supposed to sign? THE MACHINE TELLS YOU WHAT TO DO?

It sounds ridiculous, but one of my biggest peeves is the illiteracy in this country. Our card machines literally say "If you would like you use your pin, please use the key pad and hit the ENTER key (green 0) If you would like to sign, hit the CANCEL key (red X)" Everyone and their mother grabs the pen, stares blankly at the machine, and asks "How do I sign?" They're not even reading it. Even on the signature screen, which has a thorough description that can be cut down to "Sign in the box and hit the green key" people just stare and hit the green key over and over until I look at them and, with all the contempt I can muster, say "It wants you to sign in that big white box."

"Oh! You mean I have to SIGN for $200 worth of stuff?!?"

"Derp. Or, you know, I could just memorize your card number, since you can't even slide this by yourself competently, and use it to get my own groceries. Only five stores in town actually check ID anymore."

They didn't think that was funny...

The Wandering Poet 10-10-2014 08:40 PM

@ Alex - Usually when I'm asking about signing I'm asking where I sign because some do paper some do machine. People should know what cards require signatures shouldn't they? XD

Alexander J Luthor 10-10-2014 10:02 PM

I'm pretty sure I've told at least 10,000 people... probably more. "You sign if it's credit over $50, or a debit. Credits under fifty go through immediately." The only customers I let slide are Canadians. Up there a card can be linked to BOTH a credit and debit or a savings account, so choosing the wrong one can affect them pretty bad.

The Wandering Poet 10-10-2014 10:16 PM

Here we always sign for credit 100% of the time

Alexander J Luthor 10-11-2014 06:18 AM

Yeah, the American system is ridiculously stupid. People wonder why identity theft is such a huge problem...

The Wandering Poet 10-11-2014 09:10 AM

The stupid part is that I am almost never ever asked for photo ID. People just don't ask.
