Taylor leaned into the kiss a bit, just enjoying it.
Bucky raised an eyebrow. "You expected that?" he asked. "Thanks for the warning." He grinned a bit to show he was teasing. |
Steve released her a few moments later.
"So, I guess there are some things we should probably talk about." "Couldn't tell you everything," Alissa said with a bit of a grin. |
"I guess so," Taylor said, still cuddled close to him. "I'm guessing things are a bit different now."
"That's no fair," Bucky said, grinning. "But it doesn't matter anymore. It's in the past now." |
"From when you left?" Steve guessed quietly. "I wonder why."
"Yes, it is," Alissa agreed, leaning into him. "Shouldn't matter too much now." |
"There's not much wondering involved," Taylor admitted. "I'm pretty sure I know what happened. Not that it really matters anymore, but I'm fairly sure of what changed."
"Right," Bucky agreed. He pulled her a little closer, and then sighed a bit. Nope, he couldn't go any further with her until he'd told her everything. His conscience wouldn't allow it. "Though we do still need to talk." |
Steve blinked. "Oh? Why don't you tell me anyway? I'm curious." And he was, since he had no idea that the girls had changed anything.
"Alright. Now or later? I've got time now, if you want," Alissa offered, looking at him. |
"You might not like it," Taylor warned.
"We should discuss it now," Bucky said. He nudged her a bit. "Come on, let's go somewhere a bit more private." |
"Well, whatever it is didn't happen, so that's okay," Steve said, releasing her but offering her his hand instead. "We can even grab some coffee." He grinned.
"Alright." Alissa moved back so he could lead the way to somewhere quieter, though she did glance at Taylor and Steve to make sure they were fine before she left. |
Taylor took his hand gently.
"Let's get some coffee," she agreed, nodding. "Then I'll tell you what I think changed things." Bucky took Alissa's hand and tugged her gently into another room. "Come sit," he said. "I need to tell you what's going on, and you're not going to like it." He knew that for sure. |
Steve smiled and kept hold of her hand, heading with her to the elevator.
"Do you prefer to stay in the tower or go out to one of the hundred places around here?" he asked, looking at her. Alissa's eyes narrowed a bit at that but she nodded, settling in a seat across from him. "Alright, whenever you're ready. I promise I won't interrupt." |
"Doesn't matter to me," Taylor said. She grinned. "Coffee's better now than it was then."
"Alright," Bucky said. He was quiet for a moment, and then decided to just go for it. "I just finished the paperwork to finalize my divorce." He watched her carefully to gauge her reaction. |
"Much," Steve agreed, pressing the button for the ground floor. "The grounds aren't trying to choke you anymore." He grinned. "Although Bucky and I opted to keep a good coffee machine, rather than a Keurig."
"I... really?" Alissa blinked at him, completely blindsided by that. "Um. When did you get married?" |
"Keurigs are touchy machines," Taylor said, grinning. "I prefer a regular machine too."
"This year would have been thirty years," Bucky admitted, well-aware of how delicate the subject was. "Though we've been separated for five years, now, and working on the divorce for about eight months." |
"Buck still drinks his black. I've gotten a taste for some milk in mine." Steve shrugged, walking with her to a little coffee shop. "Lattes still have too much milk for me."
"Oh." Alissa blinked at him. He hadn't waited. Well, he had, sort of, but he'd also gotten married in the meantime. That was... odd. Disheartening. "So you're divorced now." |
"I like them," Taylor said. "And fraps, fraps are nice sometimes." She held his hand as they walked into the coffee shop.
"Pretty much," Bucky said, nodding. "Just waiting for the paperwork to be processed." He watched her. "I met Katherine in eighty-four. I suppose it was loneliness more than anything; I was waiting to get you back, and the decades had been so long that I just... She was more of a friend than anything, for most of it. And around 2010, when she was getting older and I wasn't, she left and never really came back. And I didn't stop her." |
"Too sweet," Steve said, briefly making a face. "Unrelated to coffee, though, Nutella is delicious."
"Okay." Alissa swallowed. "That's going to take a bit to process." Not that she blamed him, exactly, but she did have to get used to the idea, accept it, and get over it. That would take a few days, on top of everything else. "Anything else I should know about?" |
"Nutella is amazing," Taylor agreed, grinning. "Nutella on toast is delicious."
"Nothing like that," Bucky said, shaking his head. "That was what I needed you to know before anything else. Katherine and I never had any kids, and the divorce is settled." He looked at her. "I love you, Alissa, I always have." |
"Nutella on almost anything is delicious," Steve said with a bit of a snort.
Alissa nodded. "I still love you. I just... need a day or two to deal with this. I'm not going anywhere, though." |
"This is true," Taylor said. She grinned teasingly. "You know how that sounded, though."
Bucky nodded. "Take all the time you need," he said. "I'm not going anywhere, either." He cautiously put his arm around her, giving her time to pull away if she wanted. |
Steve just grinned at her and ordered a regular coffee for himself, motioning for her to order whatever she wanted.
Alissa didn't pull away, instead leaning a little closer to him. Things weren't quite okay, not yet, but better. Definitely better. |
Taylor stepped up and ordered a caramel mocha. Definitely an old favorite for right now.
Bucky pulled her close. "Hungry?" he asked after a bit, grinning. "My treat. I can make something for us." |
Steve paid for both of their drinks, smiling a bit. "How long have you been back?"
"You cook?" Alissa asked, raising her eyebrows. "Sure, if you want to make something, I could eat." |
"Almost a month," Taylor admitted. She looked at him. "That's why I thought you might have forgotten, it was a long time."
"Of course I cook, I had to keep Steve and I alive for the first forty years of the last seventy," Bucky said, grinning. "Katherine wasn't much of a cook, either, so there was that. I'd love to cook something for you. Anything you particularly want?" |
"I am sorry about that. If I hadn't been in Australia..." Steve trailed off and shook his head. "It doesn't matter because I'm taking time off now."
"Surprise me," Alissa said with a grin, well aware that she was essentially giving him permission to show off. |
"Taking time off?" Taylor asked, raising an eyebrow. "You're allowed to do that?"
Bucky grinned. "I intend to," he said. He stood up and held out his hand. "Come with me, then. Back to my actual place. No reason to crowd Stark's place any more'n we need to." |
