If everyone really hate COD then why are they still selling well?
Just watched a live stream of Advance warfare and almost all the comments were hate towards the game. Now I'm not defending the game. I haven't even played it yet. Of course I understand the main reason for the hate cause they don't like spending full price every year on what feels like the exact game over and over. But here's the question. Gamers keep going on saying they hate these yet they're still selling big. There must be a big majority of people buying them if they're still being made every year. Why is this? Why are we still continuing to buy a game we hate?

The hate crowd(which does include me), is actually rather small. The people who love it, are happy to shut up and play. A lot of people hate the game, and I will admit that even some who hate it still buy it only because their friends are playing it and they want to join them. I haven't seen AW at all, so I'm not saying I hate it. I've always played them and given my hate an actual form. It's that generic bs they always seem to do that keeps the hate strong. The multi-player is were the game should shine, but it's the same each game with almost no improvements to make each series feel unique(and I'm talking how it looks, but how it plays)
I would happily buy CoD again if they would make each game feel unique, not just look it. I was a fan of CoD from the original, til World at War, then just felt the series collapse on it's own high horse they gain. My hate isn't because it's CoD, but because I have a serious problem with the development of the game. tl;dr Some people just hate something because it's popular. Some, not all. |
I think that while the community that hates the series is quite vocal, it's not as many as those who actually enjoy them and purchase each release. Not to mention, most folks who say they hate the games still tend to buy said games.

I dislike it because the game doesn't change too much from game to game.
I really haven't played a CoD in years because i'm burned out from the series. Don't think i'll go back to playing it in my lifetime. The market is too over saturated with shooters anyway. |
Well, I can say one thing. After finally playing Advanced Warfare... Sledgehammer got it right. The game does feel unique in it's own right. The ability to launch yourself around the battlefield gives a new strategy to the game. You no longer just run around, but you boost jump to get the advantage. As I said, I am part of the hate crowd for CoD because of actual reasons of the samey shooter bs. It's got the same elements, of course, but they added a whole next side to the game, plus with the futuristic weapons and I am enjoying it.
My biggest fear, will be Sledgehammer doing what the other two have done. Repeat their formula without any needed changes just to sell. This three year development cycle looks like it will bring new things to the table but we shall see. I'm not gone from the hate crowd, but I can at least enjoy Advanced Warfare for the things that they have done. |
I dislike FPS in general. Though I do enjoy Fallout 3.

I only like Metro, S.T.A.L.K.E.R, Wolfenstein, Quake, and Doom as far as FPS games go. I find COD supremely boring.
|
Someone else who's played/knows the glory that is S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and Metro. I have been rather saddened by the fact rarely anyone I know out here has played or even knows about them(Minus knowing about Metro with Redux being out)

I don't like that many of their games. I only like World At War, Advanced Warfare, and MW2 (by far the best). |
There's sheep and there vocal minorities. The hate comments are generally from the latter and the money generally comes from the former. The problem is that the former will BLINDLY spend the money even if there's nothing new brought to the table, while the hate crowd rarely ever brings up legitimate complaints about the games.
That's why you have to filter out the best and worst of both sides, to find the pros and cons. |
I don't think I've ever met anyone who hates cod, only the players lol
