"Well, it'll keep him busy for a while, at least," Gemma said, grinning a bit. She moved the edge of the area blanket to reveal a sheet of paper with a combination of runes on it. "This is generating the main ward."
"Neat." Steve grinned. "You're not worried about it smudging or ripping or anything?"
"Not really," Gemma replied as she dropped the blanket again. "Sharpie on card stock paper, it should last long enough, even if it gets slept on."
Steve grinned. "Smart," he said approvingly. "Do you normally do that, or is it because of them?" He jerked a thumb back at Tony.
"A little of both," Gemma admitted, turning slightly pink. "I usually ward against things like bugs and critters, because I'm like that. This time I just... added a rune or two to ramp it up and keep out slightly bigger critters."
Steve snickered at that. "Sounds about right," he said with a grin. "They're definitely critters right now."
"The ward won't hold up against, say, Kenzie, but it should hold for a while against anyone short of probably Thor." Gemma grinned. "Though it would be interesting if he tried."
"He'd be up for it," Steve said with a chuckle. "Maybe tomorrow or sometime later you can set one of these up and let him at it, see how long it lasts."
"I'm sure he would be," Gemma said. "We'll see. Everyone will probably be feeling too lazy by then."
"Sometimes I don't think Thor really knows the meaning of lazy." Steve just shook his head, though, settling back a bit.
"Like I said, we'll see," Gemma said. She sighed, stretched, and laid back on the blanket.
"Haven't seen this many stars in a long time," Steve murmured. He wasn't laying down yet, but leaning back on his elbows looking up at the sky.
"Less light pollution out here," Gemma murmured back. "Sky's easier to see. It's nice."
"Mm." Steve finally laid back all the way. "Reminds me a bit of Europe. But a lot warmer. And more comfortable."
"That's right, I forgot you've actually been places," Gemma said, grinning a bit. "What's it like over there?"
"Well, last time I was there, there was kind of a war going on," Steve said dryly, though he was grinning. "France was nice, I liked France."
"Maybe you should make it a point to go travel again," Gemma suggested. She grinned. "Be a tourist somewhere other than New York."
"I keep trying, and things keep popping up," Steve said with a little huff. "But eventually I will."
Gemma laughed a little.
"Where do you want to go?" she asked, now curious. |
"Everywhere," Steve said with a grin. "Europe again, all over the States. I don't think there's anywhere I'd say no to."
"Sounds like fun," Gemma said, grinning. "I want to travel some day. When I can get the money together."
Steve nodded. "Well, let me know when you do," he said with a little grin.
"I will," Gemma replied. She lapsed into quiet again, just watching the sky.
When they headed back to the city, Kenzie was much more relaxed. She also cuddled up to Barnes for the trip back, because clearly now that they'd all seen her as a dragon (and slept on her) there was no such thing as personal space anymore.
Although she'd enjoyed the weekend away, Gemma was glad to be getting back to the city. She'd kind of missed her shop, and she was looking forward to getting back into something vaguely resembling a routine.
