Natasha snorted quietly but nodded and settled in to finish her dinner.
Kenzie finished her own food and got up, putting her plate in the sink and starting to put things away and wash up quietly. |
Bucky was still fuming a bit at having been sabotaged, even as he dumped his plate in the sink as well. Unfortunately, he couldn't stalk down to the gym to beat up a punching bag yet, because it was his turn to do the dishes. So he went over to the sink and started to wash plates, though he might have gripped them slightly harder than was strictly necessary.
"You alright?" Kenzie murmured, settling in next to him and helping him with the dishes and drying.
Bucky glanced at her, and then back at the dishes he was washing.
"I'll be fine," he said after a moment. "It's nothing." |
"Don't lie to me," Kenzie said with a little huff. "Please, Bucky." She caught his metal hand in hers before he could accidentally break anything.
"I'm not lying," Bucky replied, though he didn't yank his arm back. "I'll be fine." Eventually. Once he got Nat into the sparring ring again.
Kenzie huffed, not satisfied with that answer. Instead, she let him finish the dishes, and then gently tugged his hair out of the little bun, combing her fingers through it.
"In the middle of the kitchen?" Bucky asked her after a few moments of just standing there letting her run her fingers through his hair. "There are more comfortable spots."
"Go on, then." Kenzie smoothed his hair down one more time before she stepped back, letting him pick where they went.
Bucky hesitated for just a moment before heading out of the kitchen. He bypassed the communal living room completely, instead heading towards his suite.
Kenzie followed him, shooting Clint a look when it looked like he might say something. She huffed to herself, shaking her head and following Bucky back to his suite.
"Better?" |
After a moment, Bucky nodded.
"Felt crowded out there," he mumbled as he went and settled on the bed. |
"Mm." Kenzie followed him. "Perhaps it is a good thing I've not added to my hoard recently, then."
"Probably," Bucky murmured, moving over so there was room for Kenzie to settle down. "'S been rough recently."
Kenzie sighed a little. "I'm sorry," she murmured. "It might have been a little easier for you, if I had not vanished, or had come back sooner."
"I held up okay," Bucky responded. "Ask Sam. I did okay." He moved so he was a little closer to her.
Kenzie just smiled a little and reached over to play with his hair some more, because she could.
Bucky relaxed as she did that, moving a bit closer. He ended up stretched out with his head in her lap, just relaxing there.
Kenzie didn't mind one bit, just settling there with him and continuing to pet his hair. He certainly seemed to like it, and she didn't mind. Not one bit.
Bucky was comfortable enough to doze there, letting the feel of her nails on his scalp relax him. He hadn't been this relaxed for as long as he could remember.
Kenzie didn't fall asleep, but she did relax and sit back, her eyes half lidded and not paying attention to much besides Bucky.
Gemma still hadn't ventured back towards the city yet. She still felt safer at the cabin, where there was nobody around that she could hurt, and she wasn't keen on going back just yet.
Kenzie, on the other hand, was starting to miss Gemma, and was getting a bit antsy. However, instead of just doing the normal human thing and asking someone, she borrowed Tony's phone to have Jarvis track Steve's location, coordinated that with the Gemma-thread-bond in her mind, and went to go tell Bucky she'd be back in a few days.
Bucky was a bit surprised that she was leaving again so soon.
"Where're you going?" he asked. |
"To find Gemma," Kenzie said with a little shrug. "She's been gone a long time, and I know not all is right with her. I need to see her." She paused for a moment, looking at him. "However, I would not say no to company."
