A roommate? That was interesting. Though he supposed it made sense, if the roommate was a mutant as well. Erik nodded and gestured for her to lead the way.
Carrie walked back over to Alice.
"I found him," she said, not exactly thrilled, as she sat down and motioned for Erik to sit across from them. |
"Wonderful," Alice said. Erik watched them both as he sat down. They were both rather interesting, to be honest. Not every mutant was suited to helping others hide, after all.
"Never caught your name," Carrie said, looking at Erik. "I'm Carrie. Like I mentioned, this is Alice." She intentionally left out last names, although since he was going to be staying with them it would be easy enough for him to find out. But still, the principle of the thing.
Erik studied them for a moment. Finally, he gave a tiny sigh.
"Aside from the name the media has given me, my name is Erik." He left off his last name, as well. Hey, if they weren't going to offer theirs, he wasn't going to offer his own. |
"Erik." Carrie nodded. She could work with that. "Why did you decide you needed to get off the radar?"
"I seem to be coming to the rather unfavorable attention of the local government," Erik said. "I felt it best to lay low for a while, and a contact of mine sent me to you."
Carrie snorted quietly. "Yeah, you mean how your face was splashed all over the evening news? Best to let that blow over."
"Indeed," Erik said, a bit flat. He looked at them both. "If there is no more reason to delay..."
Carrie sighed but stood. "If you want to stay I can take him back," she told Alice, ignoring Erik for a few moments. "So you can finish your tea."
Alice shook her head.
"It's fine," she said. "They'll give me a to-go cup if I ask for one." Standing up, she went to the counter to ask for the cup. |
Carrie motioned for Erik to follow her and waited for Alice by the door, so they were out of the way.
Well. The next however long promised to be interesting, at least. |
