New Years Resolutions

It's getting close to that time!!

I was wondering what people are thinking of doing this year? What do you even think of new years resolutions.

I think that New years resolutions should be more a goal on how to better yourself through the next year. Over the "you have to go to the gym daily" that I feel the media is pushing all resolutions to be. (and "diet. DIET NOW" )

I'm thinking my resolutions may be something like...
lose 10 pounds
Get my daughter to speak and pedal a trike. Both of which she struggles with.
Be more patient with my husband and his anger bursts about everything.
Tell my feelings instead of bottling it in.
not get pregnant.

I like that way of thinking too. I like to make goals involving art and other personal goals. :)

Aganab 12-30-2014 04:26 AM

I totally agree. Like, my goals are more things that will improve my life, without putting pressure on me. For example, I want to exercise more and study more, which won't be that hard and won't make me feel like a failure if I don't go to the gym once.

I haven't made any previous resolutions that I've stuck to, but I think that these ones would benefit me.

- concentrate harder on my studies
- work on my novel
- be patient with mum
- teach my brother Arabic
- fast Mondays and Thursdays
- structure my life
- sleep less

Mondays and Thursdays. Well, you see... okay. I'm Muslim and in my religion we have a thing called sunnat. Meaning: something that is sunnat is something that Muhammad (P.B.U.H) did in his lifetime. So, he used to fast on a Monday and Thursday, so doing that is sunnat. It's not compulsory, but it's a good thing to do. Apart from the religious stuff, I see fasting as a kind of detox. It gives your system one whole day to clean itself out before you fill it up again. So, I'll be detoxing twice a week!

Viva, rebellion!

xuvrette 12-30-2014 02:42 PM

:/ I am not on board of the resolution of 'SLEEP LESS'! :<
Though, of course, that is your freedom.

SuperZombiePotatoe 12-30-2014 02:44 PM

Haha, I really think it would be good for me and next year it seems like a real possibility [:D]

xuvrette 12-30-2014 02:52 PM

How many hours is that 'less'?

Lavinia 12-30-2014 03:00 PM

Gosh, it's rare i do manage to keep a resolution for long, but here goes.

-Get a job and keep it! (i start jan 10th so this ones pretty guarantee'd yay!)
-Start saving up so i can do things! And get a damn passport!
-Go to an overseas festival (tomorrowland maybe?)
-Finally go on a backpacking holiday to Europe! (or at least Italy like is planned)
-Get fit, smoke less, drink less (usual healthy stuff that never quite happens xD)
-Start driving lessons
-Look for a scuba diving course
-VOLUNTEER

- BAZILLION OTHER BUCKET LIST ITEMS...

xuvrette 12-30-2014 03:06 PM

You smoke and drink? O__O
I am surprised.

Lavinia 12-30-2014 03:08 PM

*puts the cigarette out*

No...not at all! D=

dammit, busted xD

xuvrette 12-30-2014 03:14 PM

Does it really help? :(

Whole Milk 12-30-2014 03:57 PM

Oh gosh. I have a fair number. Though I'm more of a goals person so maybe they're not resolutions per se? What's the difference? I'm not really sure.

I only have a few that are for the year like read 50 books or 15,000 pages, a monthly money saving goal, journaling every day (at least three gratitude statements), regular poetry or song writing, and sort out all my boxes and donate a bunch.

The others I do quarterly. So these are for January first to March thirty first.

- Get 90+% in my math course
- Read Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy
- Get into doing dishes daily (I'm a terrible neglectful person)
- Take that home business weekend course
- Knit or crochet for at least 2 hours each week
- Start meal planning (at least make the plan in February and use it in March)
- Study German for at least 10 minutes a day
- Use Khan acadamy for at least 10 minutes a day
- Make and use a proper filing system
- For at least February have a spotless kitchen
- For at least March have a spotless bedroom

And I'm still thinking of more.
Maybe I shouldn't. Haha. @[email protected]

xuvrette 12-30-2014 04:03 PM

Oh yes! I got it.
My New Year resolution is:

to make new year resolution. 8D

Whole Milk 12-30-2014 04:05 PM

I think you did it Xuvrette! It's self fulfilling! [lol]

Maha-Aamir 12-30-2014 04:06 PM

New year resolutions or resolutions in general don't sit well with me maybe because my life is filled with colorful chaos hehehe so i just try my best to become a good person while reminding myself that i am a human being and i will make mistakes so i will have to forgive myself before i demand it from others [:)]

xuvrette 12-30-2014 04:10 PM

Oh lol. XD I was hoping people would comment that being a 'vicious cycle'. XD

Nola 12-30-2014 04:12 PM

My resolution.... I have debated this so much. I am already on a diet so I thought about making it doing better with my diet but that wouldn't work probably. My resolution is as follows

~Actually start exercising along with my diet.
~Improve my art and stick to doing art when I promise someone an order. (I can be very lazy)
~Clean the pit that is my closet.
~Stop being so shy and be more outgoing.
~Stop letting people walk over me because I am too nice.
~Get a Debit card/bank account. (This will be done after the 4th since that is my bday).

xuvrette 12-30-2014 04:15 PM

Is it that difficult to get a bank account?

zyne 12-30-2014 04:20 PM

ahh, this is a cute thread !

resolutions:
  • get more masculine clothes
  • actually work on art
  • learn asl
  • stop worrying too much, things happen and that's okay
  • find pants for my avatar haha
