Jesse wrote down the Protein Plate idea on his notepad and looked at Jesse. "I'm afraid not Lex." he answered and chuckled. "Do as I wish?" Jesse repeated and chuckled, "Alrigiht, I'll go get you some food to help relax you. You do seem really nervous and I don't blame you, I'd be nervous too." he admitted looked at the princess looking girl. "OH...I'm, I'm doing pretty good actually. J-just working. I hope you're doing well today." he said softly and smiled. "I'll be back with your food Lex, try to take it easy, you're doing fine so far." Jesse reassured and headed over to the kitchen window where he handed over the slip of paper then looked at Nancy. "I think you should help him be more comfortable around that girl he likes." he said. Nancy smirked and looked over at Lex before looking at Jesse. "I think I need to help both of you." she commented.
Faida chuckled softly at the thought of Lex jumping off walls. "Wall Jumping sounds like fun." she said softly and looked over at Radiance. The wide smile on her face when the waiter approached only confirmed her suspicions. Radiance really did like him, and he seemed rather shy around her so that probably meant that he liked her too right? "You should talk some more to him Radiance, I think he would like to talk to you too, he's just too shy." she noted easily. "Here he comes again." Faida pointed out. Jesse returned with the protein plate and placed it on the table in front of Lex. "Here you go. Maybe this will help relax you a bit." he said and chuckled. "I spoke to Nancy and she does think she should help up both." Jesse muttered and fixed his glasses, brushing some hair away from his face. |
Lex tried to ignore Jesse knowing that he would be fine after a while. "Thank you Jesse." He said as he looked up hearing what Jesse had said. He wondered if Nancy was really going to help both of them. He could see Jesse wasn't so excited about the idea. Lex closed his eyes to say a quick prayer. He open his eyes as he started to eat his own food. Lex could see that more people where starting to enter the dinner. Lex was half way through his meal when he received a phone call.
Lex stopped eating picking up his phone answering. He was surprised to hear the sheriff himself on the phone. Once he was done he hung up the phone as he turned to Faida. " It looks like I need to go to work now. Do you still wish to come with me? " He asked wondering if she had made up her mind yet. " The Sheriff said that he would fill you in on your assignment once you where ready. I didn't know you where part of the police force around here." Lex said honestly surprised. Radiance smiled as she watched the others interact. She smiled hearing Jesse happy to know he was doing alright. Lex seemed to be calming down witch was a nice change. She was about to ask Jesse a question when Lex phone rang. She could see she was going to be on her own for a while. " I'll see you later at the station Faida." Radiance said softly as she looked to Jesse. "It looks like your going to have a busy day. Hopefully it wont be to bad. I hope that you don't work to hard." She said felling a little out of place already. |
Faida had finished up her food and her drink, being quiet while Lex answered his phone. When he hung up, she listened to him and smiled. "Yes of course I wish it!" she said happily. "I did not tell you because you did not ask." she said and chuckled softly before looking over at Radiance. "Of course Radiance. Please try to have a good day okay? I promise to be careful." she assured and looked back at Lex. "We should be going. I do not think it is good to keep someone waiting." she said and thought for a bit. She wondered what the sheriff would have her do since it was her first day there. Probably something easy just so that she could get the hang of how things were done here in earth.
"You're welcome Lex." Jesse replied and looked over at Radiance. "Yes, sometimes it gets really busy here, and other times it's a ghost town. Weird huh?" he said and smiled nervously. "I...I actually love working though so you shouldn't worry too much about me. I admit that I work more than I probably should but I can't help it. I love working almost as much as I love cleaning. That's why when I'm not taking orders, I'm cleaning the place instead." he explained and looked at her with his purple eyes. She really was a pretty girl and he wondered why she bothered talking to someone like him. |
Lex nodded as he stood and headed out the door forgetting to pay. He went on auto pilot heading straight for his bike as he put his riding gear on. He got on his bike as he started it up waiting for Faida. He made sure to give her a helmet and advised her to hold onto his waist as they went. It didn't take him long to reach the station. The station was really a hole in the wall. There wasn't anything special about it. Lex was surprised that they even had a jail. He parked his bike off to the side of the shabby building as he dismounted and put his gear away helping Faida do the same. He lead the way into the run down building holding the door for Faida as they entered.
Once inside the Sheriff stood at the front counter appearing to already be waiting for them. "Good my two new recruits are all here. Then we can get started. Before you start with me your both going through basics today. I'm not putting rookies out in my town that I haven't trained myself to my standards. Each of you are going to be put through basic training today. So lets get started. You both are going to change into your police T-shirt and sweat pants I have for you in your assigned lockers. Now get to it rookies!" He snapped at them as he turned heading out the back of the building waiting for them at the obstacle cores he had set up for them for today. Lex looked to Faida as he started at her in disbelieve. " He really has poor people skills doesn't he?" Lex said as he looked around and walked past the front counter and headed to the back of the station. The layout was like his old station the lockers where at the back left corner of the station. He walked to his own locker witch wasn't far from Faida's. He quickly changed as he honestly dreaded what the Sheriff had in store for them. He had hard teachers in the academy but he had a feeling this man was going to surpass them all. Radiance smiled at Jesse as she lessen to him. She looked to Fadia as she nodded hearing her. She watched as Lex vanished out the door and then looked back to Jesse. He really was a rather handsome man. She felt strange around him. He made her feel something she hadn't felt in many years. " You should try new things once in a while. Cleaning is good but only cleaning and work is no life. To live means you enjoy it to the fullest. You have may years a head of you to wast them like this. Being a hard worker is commendable don't get me wrong. However there is a beautiful world just out these doors you haven't seen. The earth was made for your to explore and enjoy. You are to kind and pure to only be happy here. Try some new things once in a while for me please. You may find that you enjoy more than just work and cleaning." Radiance said as she stood slowly pulling out some money for the bill. " I'll pay for everyone's meal here." She said as she left three hundred dollars on the table for him. " If you need more let the sheriff know please." Radiance said softly. " I should get to my class at the hospital." She said as she turned to go. |
Faida followed Lex out of the Cafe and put on the helmet he offered before sitting behind him on his motorcycle. Her arms wrapped around his waist just as he had instructed and she smiled as they rode off towards the station. When they got there, she looked at the station carefully and smiled at Lex, thanking him for helping her. "I must say, that ride of yours is really amazing!" she said happily and walked into the station with him. Her eyes focused on the sheriff as he spoke, nodding in understanding to his instructions. It sounded like it was going to be a busy day today. Turning her attention back to Lex, she chuckled and nodded. She quietly followed Lex to the lockers and headed to hers, grabbing the clothes layed out for her and quickly changed since she didn't think the sheriff enjoyed waiting. "Sounds like today will be a very busy day." she said to Lex once she was all changed.
Jesse listened to the girl as she spoke and picked up the bill with the money, placing it in his apron pocket and started to gather the dirty dishes. "Try new things huh?" he repeated and smiled. She really did sound concerned for his well being and he found that pretty cute. "Alright then, I'll try some new things just for you." he said, blushing as he did. "I hope you have fun with your classes, good luck!" he said and waved. "I'll keep that in mind, thank-you." he said softly and watched her leave, letting out a sigh once she was gone. He was oping to have lunch with her here, but she was gone now. "Try some new things..." he said to himself as he took the dishes to the kitchen then started to clean the tables. |
Lex smiled hearing Faida as he lead the way out the back door. He was impressed as the back of the station was cut up into different buildings. Each one larger than the last. It really was amazing to look at. The front wasn't anything to write home about but the back was amazing. The fitness center was top of the line. He saw the Sheriff in the middle of the yard surrounded by the other buildings the obstacles already set. He could see the Sheriff there wit ha stop watch. He was about to talk when he saw the Sheriff hit the start button on the watch and grin at him. "Crap run." He said as he started the obstacle course. He ran as fast as he could avoiding the traps that where set up to fall into. He quickly climbed the wall and met the next challenge. He dove avoiding the nerff darts that came out of no where sliding into a pit of mudd. He quickly got to his feet as he was attack by a strange man and fought the man taking the gun out of the mans hands and quickly putting the man on the ground and holding him there. Hearing the Sheriff laughing as he finished the mans demented test.
"Not bad for a city slicker." The Sheiff said as he laughed looking at Lex." You like my surprises? I wanted to to feel like a real attack. You did really well honestly. I feel satisfied that you can be out in the public and put down any threats. Ok Faida your next as fast as you can Go!" He yelled out. Radiance walked to the local hospital as she presented herself. She wasn't surprised that the Sheriff and the others had her papers and back story already in order for her when she got there. The admin of the hospital greeted her himself. He welcomed her in and was enthused about having such a exciting student there. The man explained that he wished to test her to ensure that she really was ready for practical use of her knowledge. Radiance liked that the man was going to test her. She agreed with his logic. It would be unwise of him to just take a persons word. When peoples lives where at steak being careful was the better part of valor. She could tell this was going to be a busy day. Radiance was lead to a office where the medical books and computers had been taken from. She was given a massive test. It was basically the same test given to all doctors for them to get their license to practice. The man had explained that it was take up to a week for her test to be graded since it had to be sent off. But she would work at the front desk till it came back. The test he warned her could take up to two days to take due to how massive it was. Radiance got started as soon as the man left and shut the glass door. She found most of the questions easy and seemed to fly through the test. Her entire morning was spent on the test. She finally looked up about three hearing her stomach growling. She looked back to her test already on the last part of the massive test. She smiled as the man knocked on the door and slowly walked in greeting her again. The man told her to leave her test there that he would lock the door once she left for lunch and a break. When she returned he would open it for her again. He promised that no one else would dare disturbed her test while she was away. Radiance nodded as she stood and headed out of the room. She walked wondering where she should go and what she should have for lunch. She hoped that she could finish the test soon and go house hunting with Faida. The thought made her smile as she wondered how Faida was doing. |
Faida watched as Lex ran through the course pretty quickly. "Oh dear.." she said and panicked. He made it look so easy. When the sheriff said it was her turn, her face turned serious as she ran as fast as she could. Faida made sure to avoid the traps as she continued running and jumped up onto the wall, quickly climbing it with ease. The next part of the test was the hard part. Jumping down from the wall, Faida rolled on the ground, avoiding the darts and stood back up after landing on the mud pit only to be attacked by an odd looking man. Furrowing her brows, she noticed the gun in his hand and started to fight him for it. She swiftly twisted his arm around and kneed him on his mid back after taking the gun from him and folding his arms to his back, holding him there.
"You seemed pretty comfortable just now." Nancy said softly as she offered him some water. Jesse thanked her and drank it gratefully. "Well, she seemed like a nice girl. She told me I should try other things though instead of work and clean all day." he explained. "The girl has a point Jess. You need to go out and play. You're young and should be enjoying life when you're not busy here." Nancy replied easily. "I know. I just don't know what I can do. I don't know what fun things there are to do around here." he said softly. "Arcade games, movies, the mall. All fun things to do. Amusement parks. Just do something you enjoy. Something that isn't cleaning or working." Nancy said quickly before Jesse could say anything. Smiling, she took thee empty glass and left to the kitchen, leaving him to getting back and cleaning tables and floors. |
Lex was impressed as he watch Faida. "WOW!" He said as he clapped for her. She really was something to see. He snapped to attention as the Sheriff spoke up. "Good job! Well done now both of you shower and change into your extra set of training clothes I have in your lockers. We are going to test your mind next. Now get to it!" The man said as Lex watched him trail off into the station. Lex walked over to Faida helping her up. "That was really impressive." He said to her again as he lead the way inside and back to the locker room. He walked to his side of the room where the bathrooms where and showers. He quickly took his shower and changed as he walked out into the office where the Sheriff had their test waiting.
Radiance headed out as she headed to the dinner. Some of the nurses greeted her on the way out to leave. She felt she was going to fit in well among the people there. She walked to the dinner and took a seat at the back. She noticed that the seat was starting to become her seat or the only one she chose. She slowly pulled out one of the menus as she tried to deiced what she should have for lunch. She was tired from the test surprised by how trying it could be to use just your brain for a test. |
A chuckle escaped her lips when she heard Lex clapping for her, it was really sweet of him to do that. Faida smiled as Lex helped her up. "Thank-you very much Lex. You did an amazing job too you know. I did not think I would do as well as you. I still think you did much better than I." she said kindly and followed him back to the locker room. Smiling, she walked over to her part of the room and stepped into the shower, quickly cleaning up and getting dressed in the new set of clothes. So the sheriff was going to test her mind now? Interesting. Taking a deep breath and letting it out slowly, she walked over to where both the sheriff and Lex were waiting for her.
Jesse was cleaning the counter when Nancy smirked and motioned over to where Radiance was sitting. "She's back for lunch." she said and smirked. Jesse blushed as he glanced over at her before looking at Nancy. "I'll just finish cleaning then take her order." Jesse replied. "What about your lunch break?" Nancy asked. "Oh...w-well I'll take it after taking her order I suppose." he answered honestly. He was going to see if he could eat lunch with the girl. Ask for her name too! he thought to himself as he finished up cleaning then walked over to her and brushed some hair from his face, fixing his glasses. "H-hello again. What can I get you for lunch?" Jesse asked kindly. |
Lex smiled as he saw Faida again. He was about to speak when the Sheriff spoke up before he could. " Alright Lex you get this office and Faida you get the other. Don't worry you can't talk to one another and you can't hear one another good luck on your test." He said as he lead them each to their office. Both only had a desk and chair with pencils and a paper test. The test was going to test their understanding of the law. Lex sat down as the Sheriff closed the door and left him there to face the test. He started at the thick test as he wondered why he had to go through this. He let out a sigh wishing he hadn't come in this morning. However he knew he had to get through with this.
Lex racked his brain trying to remember most of the laws. He was surprised with how much was in the test. He was glad he loved his job because he knew all the answers. However it was still tiring getting through it all. He wondered how Faida was doing with her test. He really did like the idea of working with her. He hoped that he could get to know her better. After a while he took a small break before going back to his test. He knew that he couldn't leave for lunch till the test was done. He figured about four he and Faida would be done with the test. His mind kept going back to Faida as he worked wondering about her. She was the first girl he had ever been this way with. Radiance smiled as she saw Jesse again. " I was thinking a salad please and maybe a water." She said softly as she put the menu away happy to see him again. " It looks like you have slowed down a bit I'm surprised after seeing the crowed this morning." She said as she sat there wondering what she should talk with him about or if she should waste his time like this. She knew she had to get back to the hospital soon to finish her test. |
Faida listened to the sheriff and nodded as she silently stepped into the small office provided for her. In the desk sat what she assumed was the test. Goodness, this is a big test! she thought to herself as she flipped through the many pages and sighed softly. She was going to be here for quite a while, but she didn't mind. Picking up a pencil, Faida opened up the test to the first page and started reading the questions carefully. Were things done here differently than in grace? She didn't think so and slowly started to answer each question. I hope Lex is doing alright. I'm sure he is though, he's a very smart individual. Faida thought to herself and focused on her test.
She searched deep in her mind for the answers to some of the trickier questions. Most she knew the answers to right away, but some confused her a bit which caused her to really think about the question and contemplate the correct answer. As she sat there, answering the questions she wondered what time it was. Surely they'd be ably to take a break right? Jesse smiled and nodded. "Sure thing. Salad and water, coming right up." he replied and chuckled. "yes it was pretty busy earlier but people are probably off at their own jobs right now. I'm just glad I was able to clean this place up." he replied and took a deep breath before letting it out slowly. Come on, the worst she can say is no. he thought to himself. "H-hey. Would you mind if I ate my lunch here with you?" he asked and checked the time. It was about the time he got his lunch break. "I-I was going to ask you earlier but you left." he explained. |
Lex kept working on his test and kept a eye on the clock as he did so. He was so close to being done. This test was driving him up the wall with how intense it was. He felt like he was at the academy taking the finals again. He quickly working through the remaining problems as he finished his test slamming the large test shut as he let out a breath happy to have the monster of a test over with. He felt a little revealed having finished it as he saw the Sheriff appear at his door opening and taking the test from him. The Sheriff said nothing as he turned and headed off to his office with the test. The man then came back out and motion for Lex to come out of the room. "I bought you guy pizza and cake it's in the break room waiting for you both. You'll known the results of your test after lunch for you two." He said as he turned dismissing Lex to take his break and lunch. Lex peered in at the other room as he saw Faida still hard at work. He was going to wait for her but he could tell the Sheriff wanted him in the back eating.
Lex walked to the break room where there was over eight pizza's there and a large sheet cake that read, "Welcome New Recruits!" He laughed as he fixed some pizza for himself along with some of the salad that was there. He laughed as he saw their cups the Sheriff had made for them with their names on them and their badge numbers. He fixed himself some water and took his seat as he waited for Faida. Radiance eyes widen as she heard what Jesse asked. "I-uh...that would be wonderful." She said as she smiled at him warmly. "I'm sorry if I'd have known I would have made other arrangements with the hospital. " She said happy that he wanted to eat lunch with her. She hoped that she didn't do anything to draw attention to herself. Jesse seemed like a really nice guy as she couldn't lie there was something about him that made him unforgettable to her. Radiance was just happy for a break her brain was starting to hurt from the medical test. There was so much information and the questions weren't easy by any means. She was sure that some of the other nurses that had been watching her felt it was easy for her. Honestly though it was a rough test even for her. |
Faida continued to focus hard on the test in front of her. Her head was starting t hurt and she desperately needed to drink something. Keep going, you're almost done Faida, you can do it! she thought to herself and smirked as she continued on with the test. Eventually she managed to finish it and quietly closed the huge test, placing the pencil on top of it and sighed. "That was harder than I thought." she said to herself as she exited the office and looked around to see that Lex was already gone. Oh no! Did I take too long and get left behind?! she thought to herself and quickly left to the break room, a large grin on her face and a laugh of relief escaping her lips. "Really? W-we are in?!" she gasped and chuckled. This was a really nice surprise, so this meant that she would be working with Lex? Faida walked over to pick up the cup with her name on it and smiled, it was a really adorable touch. "Am I allowed to keep this?" she asked the sheriff curiously. Faida easily filled the cup with water and fixed herself a plate with a slice of pizza and some salad. "This looks lovely." she said to herself and sat down at the same table as Lex, but sat in front of him. "Congratulations on finishing the test first Lex." she said happily.
Jesse blushed and shook his head, "You don't need to apologize it's okay. Excuse me while I place your order." he said softly and headed over to the kitchen where he placed her order then placed an order himself. "Taking your lunch break with her?" asked Nancy through a smirk. "Y-yes..." Jesse replied nervously. "Good for you. It's about time you had a date." she teased. "If your friend was here he'd be very surprised." she commented. "Oh I know. I'd never hear the end of it. I wonder how he's doing right now." Jesse muttered and grabbed a glass, filling it with ice cold water for the girl and made himself some coffee. He walked over to the table and set down the drinks before heading back and taking the plates of food, setting them down on the table. "Here's your salad and the water. Enjoy." he said happily as he took his seat across from her and took a bite of his pasta salad. |
Lex smiled as he saw Faida and laughed hearing her. " Yes you can keep it. I am sure there is no other here who would want a cup with your name on it. It's a gift. It's honestly really nice of the Sheriff. " He said smiling at her. "Congrats on you finishing as well! Finishing first is nothing to brag about. Our test scores will be what we should brag about." He said as he enjoyed his own pizza then moving to his salad. "It's nice that they cared enough to get us food and a cake. Maybe for dinner I will treat us to a meal at the dinner if you like. I think we both could use some rest. I still need to get to the store and do my shopping before I go home tonight. " Lex said as he sat there and smiled happy to be in Faida's company.
Radiance smiled as she heard him and watched Jesse. "Thank you very much." She finally said once he finished bringing their food and took a seat. Radiance took a moment to pray before attacking the salad. She was surprised how good her salad was. She hadn't had anything so amazing before as he dug further into her salad. She paused as she blushed hearing her stomach growl. It was a little embarrassing to hear her stomach growling. "Oh my, apparently I was hungry. " She said as she started to eat again trying to act civil as she did so. Though her hunger wanted to just snarf the salad down as fast as she could. She tried to eat normal as she smiled at Jesse. " So how is your food?" She asked trying to start small talk with Jesse. |
Faida smiled and took a bite of the pizza. She had never tasted it before but it was really good, she could grow to like it. "How do you think you did in the test?" she asked after drinking some water. Lex really was a great guy, even when he was so nervous like he was this morning. When he offered to treat them for dinner she smiled and nodded. "I would really like that Lex. It will help us get to know each other better since we will be working together now." she answered and took a bite of her salad which was very refreshing. She continued eating in silence before drinking some more water and speaking. "Is it not exciting?" she asked with a grin. She was actually looking forward to working with him, he seemed like a really nice guy to work with.
"You're welcome." Jesse said and smiled at her question. "It's really good actually. I never tried it before but it sounded good. I'm not a huge pasta fan, but I do enjoy it every now and then." he answered honestly. The only pasta he loved was spaghetti, and on occasions he would eat other types of pasta. He'd be adding this one to the list. "Are you enjoying your food?" he asked and thought for a bit. "Oh, how is the hospital class going? Are you finding it interesting? Tough? Easy?" he asked curiously. He wanted to learn more about her since he was probably going to see her a lot. |
Lex looked up as he smiled hearing Faida. “ I think we both did a wonderful job. I have faith in you and I’m sure I scored somewhere in the 90's. As hard and tiresome this job can be I love it. I loved learning about law. Believe it or not I was studding to be a lawyer when I decided that being a cop was more important to me. I was in a trail being tested out for one of the top firms when I figured out the men we where defending was the guilty party. I couldn’t deal with knowing that I was representing the guilty party. I quit that day and threw my degree into a box and signed up for the police academy the next day.” He said as he chuckled a little at hearing himself. “ I sound so stupid for romanticizing this job as I do. But to me I wanted to make a difference. I wanted to protect innocent people and make sure that no guilty man got to slide through the justice system like the one I met that day had. I wanted to the difference. I’ll never forget that day or all the hard work it took to get my badge and make my dream come true.” He said as his slight grin slowly turned into a frown as he thought of his partner.
“Faida do me a favor please don’t fall in love with the wrong person. If I tell you my concerns don’t write me off please. I’m not excited to have another partner honestly. It’s nothing you’ve done. I’m not sure I’m ready to open my heart back up to anyone else. “ He said as the sadness shown vividly in his eyes for once his voice even change the grief and pain easy to hear. “ Partners have to have each others backs no matter what. But my partner I couldn’t have his back. I’m sure if you ask the Sheriff and if you do your own digging in my records you’ll find out why I don’t want a new partner just yet. “ He said as his lunch was done at that point. “I.....I’ll go find out what else we need to do. I’m sure there are some reports around here that needed to be finished or filed.” He said as he cleaned up his plate and headed out to the main part of the station quickly finding himself some work to bury himself in. This was his way of dealing with the loss of his partner besides his fire water. Though is other side had told him to stop drinking he was tired of taking care of his problems. The Sheriff looked up as he saw Lex appear from the break room. He looked up at his wall clock knowing this wasn’t right. He watched the man as he went to work without any questions. The Sheriff could see the grief plainly on the mans face knowing what he was doing. He was honestly impressed with Lex but knew he needed to be pushed till he finally broke and got out all his anger and grief. The Sheriff finally stood as he looked at the machine that had graded the test taking it with him as he walked into the break room looking at Faida as he smiled at her. He pulled out a vanilla folder handing it to her. “ You scored a hundred present I’m honestly impressed. I sent your scores in and fixed your papers already Faida. You are a official officer of our county and also a resident. As for our local karate master he need you more than anyone else right now. I printed you out his files. He lost his partner of many years recently. It was the man’s estranged wife who had helped set up his partners death. Lex made the mistake of putting the Gangsters who ordered the hit into the hospital before he left. Apparently the estranged wife of his partner was really the Gangsters women. His own chief said that Lex came in intoxicated and would go home the same way. That is why I took him on and made him stay here. Also helps the Chief is my brother and when I called he asked me to take Lex in as a favor. My brother said that Lex was the best policeman they had and had been recruited several times by the FBI but always came back home. I’m trying to push on purpose to make him break. He is bottling up his emotions and until he lets go of them he wont every find peace or be of any use to anyone. Your department is humans I’ll let you have a go at him angel girl. And don’t worry I have faith in you. “ The sheriff said as he smiled at her. “I’m proud of you Faida you did a wonderful job today.” Radiance smiled happy to hear that Jesse was enjoying himself and his food. “Are there any other food that you enjoy?” She asked wondering if she might be able to learn what he liked and fix some of him one day. He was really kind and she could tell that Jesse wasn’t use to people looking after him. It make her a little sad he was such a good person he deserved to be looked after as well. Radiance kept eating her salad loving each and every bite. She loved all the meats and boiled egg along with all the different veggies that where in the salad. She was pretty sure this was going to be her new favorite item on the menu here. Radiance looked up as she paused her eating hearing Jesse asking her a row of questions making her laugh a little and smile. He seemed to be warming up to her witch she honestly liked. “The class isn’t really a class, I just didn’t know what to call it honestly. I am taking my test to become a registered full time doctor here. The admin of the hospital told me he was sorry but it was prodical and a little hard to believe that someone at my age had the knowledge and experience to be a full fledge doctor. Witch I fully understand where he is coming from. I have no issue with taking the test. In a field such as medical where you are dealing with other lives it is better to be safe than sorry.” Radiance said as she smiled took another bite of salad enjoying it. Once it was finished she spoke again. “ The test is honestly challenging. The question have multiple answers depending on the different situations that are listed. However I understand they only want the most logical. I however don’t agree with them. Just like in math there are numerous ways of getting the same answer. It doesn’t mean that one way is wrong over the other as long as you all come to the same conclusion that is what matters. I simply listed all possible ways and outcomes for each on my essay questions. I don’t know why they seem to want to box humans if you are machines. Each human is different and special in their own way. The human body has it’s own chemistry and no two humans have the same chemistry. That is why one medicine will work for one, and will kill or harm another. But in teaching the doctors they only want to do one cure to fit all, and that is honestly not possible. So much government and politics are tied into medical field now I’m not really sure you can say you’re a real doctor. “ She said a little upset with that fact as she thought about it. “ The rules they have are stupid and only benefit stock holders and pharmacy companies that have sold out to the government. Luckily if I pass I wont have to worry about much of that here it appears. The admin doesn’t’ seem like that kind of man. Besides if I was told correctly I’ll be one of only two doctors here. The hospital is rather large for there to only be one doctor. I’m honestly surprised that the hospital can function with just one doctor. But you seem to have many really kind and caring nurses. I’m sure that is how you manage.” She said as she began to eat some more of her salad as she drank some of her water. “I guess my test is going really well. The nurse’s are impressed with my progress. I don’t have that much more left. Apparently they said that it takes most a entire day if not two. Now enough of me lets talk about you. What is your favorite color, foods, music, ugh oh yes sweets, and what make you happy? What do you enjoy doing or having that puts a smile on your face? “ She asked wondering honestly what did make Jesse happy. |
Faith in me, how sweet. Faida thought to herself with a smile on her face. "I am sure you did a lot better than ninety Lex." she said softly and listened to him explain why he loved this job, she nodded in agreement since she felt the same way. So he wanted to be a Lawyer? That was something that surprised her, she could already imagine him all dressed to impress and she understood why he gave that up. "I understand. I would never want to be a Lawyer. I love protecting the innocent people and going after the guilty. If I know someone is wrongfully accused, I do all I can to prove their innocence. It is not fair to wrongfully accuse someone just because you can, I hate people who do that." Faida explained and frowned, upset at the thought. "You did good by leaving that job. I would hate you if you remained there you know. It is good that you followed your passion for correct justice." she said and grinned, shaking her head. "Not at all Lex, I do not think you are stupid so do not worry about that. Hard work always pays off in the end." she agreed and nodded her head.
His next comment made her frown in confusion. Where was this coming from? He was happy not even a minute ago and now he was sad? What was wrong? "Faida does not understand. I am not asking for your heart to be opened." she started and frowned. "If you do not want to be partners, we do not have to be then. It is alright, I can take care of myself, I have for a very long time now." she started and sighed softly, what was his problem? So his partner died? That's why he wanted to be alone? "I am not going to look through your papers Lex, I am not that kind of person and am offended that you would even suggest that I do that!" she gasped and stood up, ignoring the half eaten food on her plate. She watched him leave and pouted, crossing her arms in defeat. Her face softened when she saw the sheriff and she let out a sigh of relief to hear that she had passed with flying colors as she accepted the folder from him. "Thank-you kindly sheriff." she started and frowned when he mentioned Lex but listened to what he had to say. The story was depressing so she could understand why Lex preferred to be alone. "Sheriff...I do not feel right looking through his things. He told me clear as spring waters that he does not want a new partner. If that is how he feels then I will respect that." she said after he finished telling her his story. "Yes my department is humans, but I cannot just disobey his request. You must understand my position. I cannot anger him.." she started and thought for a bit. What would happen if she did anger him? Jesse sipped at his coffee and smiled at her question. "Well yes, I do love quite a lot of foods. I really hate sushi though, but I love seafood. I hope that makes sense." he answered and took another bite of his food happily. It was really delicious, especially the spinach. It was nice to talk to someone who wasn't Nancy, he felt out of place doing that though since he wasn't used to it. Was he going to be talking to her all the time? Taking another drink of his coffee he laughed nervously. "How rude of me, I never properly introduced myself. My name is Jesse Conner. Feel free to call me Jesse or Jess for short. Or whatever you want really, I enjoy having nicknames. It's very nice to meet you." he said, a blush spreading across his cheeks. Good job, now you'll know her name, try not to forget it! he thought to himself. "A full time doctor huh? That's really neat, I wish you luck!" Jesse said, a smile on his face. She would make a great doctor, she seemed really friendly and that was always a plus as a doctor. "I'm positive you'll pass that test, you seem like a smart girl, and if the admin is already impressed that just gives you a higher advantage." he commented happily and took another bite of his food easily. He listened to her talk and nodded at what she was saying. She was right, when you were in charge of someone's life it was best to be safe rather than sorry. "Well I think it has to be challenging. They only want the best of the best. If it was easy then everyone would be a doctor." he said with a soft chuckle. She really was a smart individual, he could tell by the way she spoke, very sophisticated. She definitely wasn't from around here. "Yes, I think they have some stupid rules, but everyone does and we can't do anything about it. As long as they help the people who need it then I'm happy. I suppose that's a stupid thing of me to think though isn't it?" he asked and offered an apologetic smile. As she finished talking, she bombarded him with a lot of questions that made his eyes widen in surprise. Why was she so interested in learning about him? "Well...I don't think I have a favorite color. I do like purple though." he answered and thought about the next question. "My favorite music? I do love music! I really like classical music the most. Doesn't have to be only piano, I like Violin music too." he explained as he fixed his glasses. His eyes widened and a childlike grin appeared on his face when she mentioned sweets. "I absolutely love sweets! Anything sweet I'll eat. Tea? Add like eight cubes of sugar and I'll drink that in a heartbeat. I love sweets, love them, love them, love them." he replied and finished up his lunch and coffee. What made him happy? He wasn't sure. "What makes me happy?" he repeated and pouted as he thought. "A clean house makes me happy. Working makes me happy...and being able to cheer someone up makes me happy. I really don't need to have anything materialistic to be happy. Just as long as those around me are happy...as long as I can make a person's day a little better, I'm a happy guy." Jesse answered honestly with a sad smile on his face. |
“Faida here you are human and here in this station you do as I say not him. You are his partner. In this job you can’t go alone. You are just as human as he. Sometimes we have to go against other wishes to protect them. You are not angering him. You will obey my request of you and if he is angry it is my doing not yours. You both have to work together for safety that is the way here and the law of the land. You are bound to the law of the land now since your fall. Here we work in pairs for this job. I understand how you feel but you are more human now Faida. If you do not wish to read the file I understand. However it does not make you a bad person. For humans we read things to help us understand. You haven’t been human long Faida. For us reading a file helps us understand the mind set and the emotions that someone went through. It helps to give us a insight on the person. He will be a great partner. Besides he would be angry if I sent you to someone else. If you don’t believe me I can show you. Faida just play along with me.” The Sheriff said as he grinned and yelled out to the middle of the stations. “JENKINS GET IN HERE!!!!”
A medium build man shot up from his desk. The man looked as if someone had just threaten to kill him as he scrabbled to the back. The commotion got Lex attention as he stopped what he was doing and headed to the back where he saw the Sheriff and Faida. The sheriff smiled at the poor man he scared patting him on the shoulder as he introduced the man to Faida. Lex walked in as he stood beside Faida. He glared at the man who tried to take a step back. The Sheriff seemed to enjoy this meeting. “ Well there you are Lex. Lex this is Jenkins. He’ll be Faida’s new partner because we have no other partners available. “ The man said with a grin. Lex narrowed his eyes as he stared at Jenkins and then burst into laughter. “Your kidding right? This man can’t even upholster a gun. Looks at him he is a desk jockey and your lucky if he can do that. You can’t send him out in the field. Are you trying to get him killed? And what about Faida? She’s a heck of a cop why would you dare to endanger her? Faida belongs with me!!! I’m a heack of a better choice and you would be stupid not to pair us together. Besides I’m the only cop you’ve got who has any field experience!” Lex shouted almost getting in the Sheriff’s face. His answer was finally showing it’s self for once. This scene only made the Sheriff laugh as he looked to Jenkins and grinned. “Tough luck Jenkins it looks like you lose this one. You two can start in the morning for now work on filing.” The Sheriff said as he walked with Jenkins out of the room just grinning the entire time. Lex tried to calm down as he slammed his hand on the table. “ That man he set me up!” He said realizing what the Sheriff had done. The then smiled softly as he shook his head. “ Never underestimate a older opponent. They are well versed in treachery.” He said as he laughed and looked to Faida. “ I’m sorry for being rude. You’re a great partner and I promise to be a great one for you. “ He said meaning it as he was still a little insulted that the Sheriff thought Jenkins was anywhere suitable for Faida. “If your done I can show you to our desk and we can start on the filing together if you like.” Lex said trying to change the subject not really sure what he should do. Radiance listen to Jess as she took in everything he said. He honestly was a amazing person. She found she was growing very found of him. She could see he had a good heart and that is what seemed to draw her to him. She laughed a little hearing his response to her and blushed scolding herself mentally for not really introducing herself to him. She was being eternally rude around him apparently. The fact made her blush even more as she hung her head slightly. “Oh,...I’m so sorry please forgive my absentmindedness. How rude of me not to ask your name and do formal introductions. “ She said as she slowly looked into his eyes meaning what she said. “ It’s a pleasure to meet you Jesse. I am Zandora or Radiance however I have a feeling my acquired name here is Princess. “ She said as she laughed thinking about Lex who had started calling her that this morning. “Most of my friends here know me as Zandora but if you wish to give me a nick name I would be open for it even princess.” She said laughing as she smiled honestly in a good mood. She looked at Jesse as she tried to think of a good nick name for him. “ humm...you are puzzling to come up with a good nick name for. I would call you Knight because you have all the virtues that a good knight should possess. However I’m sure that isn’t your taste. “ She said as she gave him a friendly smile. “I’m afraid that any others I have will not suffice for you.” She said as she thought about the names that came to mind. “ Cupcake, Pie, Sweets, wait maybe Kai it Frisian Kaimbe, meaning "warrior." You could stand to have a reminder or two that you are more than meets the eye.” She said as she smiled and nodded seeming happy with the name. “Besides you look like a Kai. “ She said as she thought about everything he had said to her. “So I will have to work on making sweets and make sure there is purple somewhere.” She said out loud obviously talking to herself. Radiance looked up as she heard a strange sound. She then looked at the strange device that the admin had gave her. “Oh, it is time for me to head back. Maybe we could talk another time if that is alright?” She asked wondering if he even wanted to speak with her again. “ I really enjoyed your company. I find you fascinating and I’m sorry for rambling so. I promise to not do that again.” She said wishing she could spend more time with him. |
Faida listened in absolute silence as the sheriff spoke and nodded. She knew he was right, she had to abide to the laws here on earth since she was no longer in grace. "I understand Sheriff." she said quietly. She nearly jumped when he yelled and looked over at the man who appeared somewhat shaken. She could see Lex approach from the corner of her eye. The man's name was Jenkins...what an odd name. She offered him a friendly smile which faded when Lex laughed. I belong to him? No I do not! "I do not belong to anyone Lex. If I remember correctly, you said you did not want a new partner." she said seriously. She had to admit that it was sweet of him to say that though, but she really did not belong to anybody, she was not an object! The thought made her very angry but she did her best to hide her anger.
Faida waved goodbye at the men then looked back at Lex, frowning slightly disappointed with today's events. "Yes he did." she said plainly. "Very rude you were. And very hurt I am." she said seriously as she listened to Lex speak. "You said you did not want a partner and I respect that, but the sheriff said we must be partners even if you do not like it." she explained easily and crossed her arms across her chest. "Let us get to work." she said and turned around as she walked out of the break room. "Radiance, what a lovely name. Princess is a fitting name too, but I think Radiant is even more fitting. I'll have to choose between both." Jesse replied, blushing when he did. He was always terrible around girls, he was surprised he could still talk in complete sentences though. "The pleasure is all mine really." he assured with a nod of his head. They didn't even know each other that well and they were already giving each other nicknames, was this normal? He'd have to ask Nancy or better yet Lex. He chuckled at her first suggestion. "I don't think Knight would be very fitting for me really." he admitted. Cupcake? Pie? Sweets? I guess they're cute but that's for people who are dating isn't it? he thought to himself and looked at her. "Kai?" he repeated. It was simple, nothing too crazy, plain really. "I like that." he said honestly and chuckled. "I look like a Kai?" he repeated. "Well thank-you. It means a lot coming from you." he said nervously. She's going to make me sweets? What? he thought to himself at her last comment. He was sad that she had to go, but he had to get back to work too. "I understand, and I'd really like to talk with you again sometime. M-Maybe we can make lunch a regular thing if you want. I-I don't mind at all, but I wouldn't want to get in the way of any plans you might have either." he explained and wondered if he was probably pushing his luck. "I really enjoy your company too. N-no it's alright really, you have nothing to apologize for. It's actually very adorable." he confessed and blushed even more."I-I look forward to talking to you again sometime." he said with a nervous smile and a nod of his head. |
Lex looked surprised as he tried to figure out what he did wrong. He was honestly confused at this point. He let out a sigh knowing this wasn’t going to end well. Apparently he had lost any shot he had with the girl thanks to his nature. He left her a lone as he worked on some of the file at his current desk thinking some time might help her to calm down. After a while he got up and walked to where she was. “ I’m sorry if I offended you. But if you want Jenkins fine. I was not rude by the way. I told the truth on all accounts. I was trying to be helpful. I wont do so again. If you take him as your partner one or both of you will end up dead. You have skills he has none. You don’t want your partner to have no skills and count on them to save your life. However if you are just determine to be angry over nothing so be it. I don’t really want a partner I didn’t lie about it. But I also didn’t say I wouldn’t be your partner. None of you really asked that. So before you get all huffy and puffy I told the truth.” He said as he looked at the time and turned leaving her there. He walked to the Sheriff office as he spoke with the man and cleared his first day. He was finished with his work and the Sheriff had said that he would take Faida home.
Lex walked to his locker and changed back into his normal clothes taking the dirty outfits with him as he headed out the door. He didn’t bother to say bye knowing he would see her later or the next day for work. He got on his bike and headed out to the local stores. It took Lex a good four hours to get everything thanks to the fact most of the things had to be delivered by some friendly locals due to his choice in transportation. Once everyone was gone he started hauling everything in and putting it away the best he could. Once he was done he washed his outfits and started dinner not sure he would really see Faida. Today he really wanted to find a local bar and drown himself. Maybe it was a good thing Jess didn’t approve of such things. Radiance eyes widen as she stood there. She felt her cheeks grow warm as she found that for a moment time stopped for her again. She could hear the sound of her heart beating wildly as she stood there hearing what Jess had to say. “I-......thank you.” Was finally all she managed to get out as she came back to her senses. “Radiant? I don’t think of myself that way. No one does once they get to know me.” She said as she frown thinking of her true form. If he could see the monster she was cursed to be he would take that word back faster than he used it. It hit her that even now she was hiding her true form. What kind of relationship could she form based on a lie. The though along made her sad as she turned from Jess. “ Thank you Kai it means a lot you believe so. However you wouldn’t like me much once you got to know me. I’m not as beautiful as I seem. But I would enjoy talking with you.” She said as pulled out a pin from the purse she had writing her phone number on a napkin for him. “Plans wont be a issue. Not many talk with me.” She said honestly as she smiled once again trying to fight the negative thoughts she had. “Thank you Kai. It means a lot you think that. And I would love to make this a regular date.” She said as she smiled at him honestly. “ Don’t forget you live for yourself today. You may not be promised tomorrow.” She said smiling at him before heading out the door back to the hospital. Radiance was able to finish her test with ease surprising the staff. She was allowed to leave once she was done. Radiance headed to the police station as she hopped Faida had a wonderful day. She pondered on her own dilemma wondering if it was truly right of her to deceive others on her appearance. Jess was a really nice guy and she really liked him. However his words hurt her more than flatter her. They hurt her because she knew if he saw her true form her cursed form he would never accept her nor find her Radiant in any form of the word. Maybe Radiant for evil she thought as she walked to the station. After a while she came to the station and walked in happy to see Faida and the Sheriff. “Hey Faida!!!” She said warmly happy to see the women. |
Faida worked quietly on the files she was supposed to work on, looking over at him when he decided to speak again. "Lex, where I am from we do not have partners. We work alone, and if help is required we ask for it. We are not given help like you are here, we do what we can alone. Help only comes when we really need it and ask for it." she started and sighed. "I understand that things work differently here, I will just have to get used to that." Faida explained and frowned. Now he was upset and she was upset, this day went from being great to being pretty bad really quickly. She watched him walk away, not sure what she could do or say to cheer him up, it wouldn't matter anyway. Working with him now was going to be rather awkward, but she would just have to deal with it.
She turned her attention back to her work and worked in silence before finishing up and walking over to where the sheriff would be. "I think I have finished for today." she said quietly and offered a small smile to Radiance when she heard her happy voice. "Hello Radiance, how was the hospital class? Was it fun?" she asked, just wanted to forget today ever happened. Faida hoped that Lex wasn't too mad, but she would find out tomorrow possibly. Jesse frowned slightly when she said that she didn't think of herself that way. He wanted to ask why not but decided it was best to keep quiet at the moment. "I'm sure that's not true, you seem like a really nice and intelligent girl, and I enjoy talking to and getting to know you." he answered truthfully. His eyes moved to the napkin she was writing on and was surprised to see it was her number. "Well I think you're a very lovely person both inside and out." he said quietly, blushing as he took the napkin with her number and nodded at her words. "I won't forget, I promise Radiant." he said and smiled at her as he watched her leave. He let out a soft sigh when she did and looked over at Nancy who was grinning at him. "Scored?" she asked when he approached. "I guess? She gave me her number and said she wanted to make lunch a regular date. I'm guessing that's a good thing right?" he asked. Nancy nodded, "A very good thing. It's about time you got a girlfriend." she answered. "Woah! She is not my girlfriend, just a friend is all." Jesse answered and checked the clock. It was almost time to head home. "That's how they all start." Nancy teased as Jesse got back to work cleaning the place and clearing empty tables. After another hour or two, he said goodbye and headed to his car, getting in and driving back home. He wondered how Lex's day had gone. When he arrived home, Jesse walked in and could already smell something was cooking. "Hey Lex....how was work?" he asked curiously as he kept the napkin stuffed in his pants pocket. |
Lex looked up as he smiled seeing that Jesse was home. "Welcome home the burgers are almost done. I hope you like some pink." He said as he finished flipping the patties for the last time. He worked on the onions and peppers cooking them both till the onions where translucent. He fixed two plates as he open two buns putting the hot juicy patties on first then the onion and bell peppers. He put on two different cheeses as he turned to face Jesse. " My day started off good. However it changed around lunch. I open my mouth and upset Faida. " He said as he plated some fried pickles and zookeeny spears . He had two small cups of ranch for them as he turned off the stove the meal completely finished. "I hope that you enjoyed your day. So what did you do today?" He asked as he took his own seat at the table placing their plates there two glasses of water already there.
Radiance smiled as she looked at Faida. "Are you ready to go look for a house?" She asked as the Sheriff came out hearing what she said. He then walked over to one of the filling cabinets as he came back with pictures of twenty different houses that where up for sell. "You two look over these and see if you like any. I have most of the keys already." He said as he walked off into his office giving them some time alone. Radiance laughed as she looked at some of the houses as she took her seat near Faida. " They went well. Something looks to be on your mind." She said as she looked up from the house hunt worried about Faida. She kept quiet waiting for Faida to speak knowing that it was the best policy. |
Jesse raised an eyebrow and frowned. "What happened Lex? What did you say to upset her?" he asked curiously and shrugged. "I don't mind, it smells really good, thank-you. Work was the same as always. I just cleaned around and served orders. Nothing special...well except that during my lunch break, Radiant and I talked over our lunch together. She seemed like a really nice girl, started asking me all sorts of questions and when lunch was over, we agreed on making it a daily thing." Jesse replied and pulled out the napkin from his pocket. "Gave me her number so that we could get together I guess." he muttered and looked at Lex. "Whatever happened, I'm sure that Faida isn't too mad at you. I'm sure tomorrow will be better." Jesse pointed out.
Faida frowned and sighed softly. "Faida had a bad day today." she answered and looked at Radiance. "Lex got very upset and that got me upset and I think he is upset with me. I do not know." she explained but shook her head. "It does not matter, let us look for a nice house." she said and smiled as she looked though the twenty different pictures. "Do you have a favorite Radiance?" she asked curiously as she looked at the different photos, not sure what exactly would be the perfect house to share. |
Lex arched a brow as he heard what Jesse had to say. " Really? Radiant and she gave you her number. Well you are a lucky dog aren't you." He said as he laughed and held up his glass to Jesse." A toast to your conquering your fears. And gaining a girl friend." He said as he grinned. He then took a sip of his water as he looked to his plate. He couldn't help but smile as he looked to Jesse. " So you are already giving her a nick name? Sounds like things are going to get pretty serious between you two. You know you have to call her right. " He asked wondering if Jesse knew the rules for dating. " So what did Nancy have to say?" He asked wondered what the wise women thought on the matter. He let out a sigh as he thought about Faida and hung his head. " The death of my partner is what happen. I think I'm ok and then stupid things remind me of it. So today I was going to be her partner. It's not that I don't want to I just don't want to lose another. I said I didn't want one and she took it personally. So I'm not sure where we are. I guess tomorrow I'll fix her a sorry cake and buy her something nice to show I'm sorry. That is what all the men at my station did when they did something wrong. " He said as he looked at his hamburger. "I like Princess better for her. I wonder what Faida would call me? Probably Heard Head. " He said as he chuckled.
Radiance felt bad as she heard what Faida said. " It's alright Fadia I'm sure tomorrow that things will be different. I mean you two seem really happy when your together. So don't let something petty like this break you up. If you let something small end your relationship you could miss out on something great." Radiance said as she thought about the different houses she had seen. Here This one!!! She said as she pulled out the picture for Faida. "I know it is run down but we could fix it up and it's free if we promise to fix it up." She said as she showed the paper work that went with the house. "Or there are more modern. Why don't you look through and choose the house." She said as she smiled at Faida. |
"I got lucky I guess...yeah." Jesse replied and laughed softly, clinking his glass with Lex's. "Thanks, and she's not my girlfriend. Nancy said the same thing. She's just a friend though...well an acquaintance really. Radiant told me I shouldn't work too hard, and that I should take some time to live for me. Do some different things and have fun. I told Nancy that and she agreed, said that she was a smart girl for giving me that advice. The thing is, I'm not sure what there is for me to do. Does this mean I have to go out of my comfort zone?" Jesse asked and drank some of his water and nodded at Lex's question. "Yeah, she gave me one too, Kai. Sounds nice. It's supposed to mean Warrior." he said and shrugged. "I don't look nothing like a warrior but if she likes it then I'm not one to complain. She really liked princess, so I guess I should start calling her that even though it will sound awkward." Jesse explained and looked at Lex. "Call her? Why should I call her? I mean, isn't it too soon to be calling her...we just met after all." he pointed out. His eyes widened when Lex explained what had happened between him and Faida. "Oh man, bummer. Well can you blame her for taking it personally? I know you didn't mean to but she didn't." Jesse started and shook his head at what Lex proposed to do tomorrow. "No way man, you'll look desperate. No one likes that, trust me. You can get her something, but don't bake her a cake. It's not her birthday. Just get her something and apologize. I'm sure she'll understand. Today was a stressful day for both of you since it was your first day somewhere new. I'm sure tomorrow will be a lot better." Jesse reassured and laughed. "I think Hard Headed is a great nickname!" he said jokingly.
Faida widened her eyes in surprise at what Radiance said. "What relationship are you speaking of?" she asked, honestly confused. As far as she knew, she and Lex were only work partners and maybe friends, nothing more right? She would have to ask Lex tomorrow if he even felt like talking. "I think it would be best if we both chose one, but I do not like choosing one to live in if you do not like it." she replied hoping she understood and looked at the photo Radiance suggested. "Free is good yes?" she asked and smiled. It did need quiet a bit of work done to it and she wondered how long it would take for it to be perfect. "Does it work inside? Or must everything be fixed?" she asked, scanning through the paperwork. |
