A Night in through Emergency Room

Well...it all started on Sunday....
The BF started complaining that his stomach wasn't well and he had watery poop, but we had been invited to the Dog Guy's house for barbeque, so he mustered up the energy to load everybody into te Dog Guy's car that we had borrowed.
The BF didn't eat anything....thinkin he had a touch of food poisoning from eating some tamales pas their prime on Saturday...
Sarah ate like she was starved!
Hope only ate a little before falling asleep in a chair.
I ate well...stuffing myself pretty full of ribs and chicken and potato salad, pasta salad and Cole slaw...topped off with cheesecake with strawberries with real whipped cream.
It was late when we got home, but Sarah had missed dessert, so I was feeding her cheesecake when I just happened look at Hope as she puked on the floor!
Hope puked a few times...and I was blaming the richness of the barbecue on a nearly empty tummy, since Sarah and I didn't get sick...
Monday saw the BF feeling much better and Hope was having a hard time keeping anything but water down....and I felt fine!
Tuesday was a different situation! I woke to watery poop AND vomiting!
It got so bad that I just couldn't lay still and I was hyperventilating form being so uncomfortable!
The BF and I agreed that I should see a doc, so,, rather than to load everybody into the car, we called the ambulance and I got a ride to the nearest hospital.
They gave me dose after dose of antinausea meds to no avail!
I was freezing...in 2 shirts and a sweater and various blankets over me...and I just couldn't get a hold on my breathing!
I hyperventilated till my hands were numb and useless!
I requested a sedative, but they kept telling me to take slower breaths.
It wasn't working....I just couldn't force myself to breath normally for more than 2 breaths before I returned to panting!
They FINALLY gave me a stronger antinausea medicine and a sedative....and I FINALLY fell asleep!
The BF had drove Hope and Sarah down so they could eat something and hoped to wait till I was released.
Hope's mom came to the hospital....so the BF decided to take the kids home.
When he got home, Sarah pooped...then Hope deposited her dinner on the floor!
I was released this morning (Wednesday)....Turtles drove me home.
Now its Sarah's turn with the Gastroenteritis....she had pooped her clothes and bed before I arrived home....so I had a stinky mess! ....and there will prolly be more!
I wasn't terribly impressed with the care I got at the emergency room....I wasn't told where the call button was, so I was left to yell "Help!" to get their attention after they told me they would be right back....and the place was NOT busy!
One of the nurses even told my daughter to go see how I was doing so they could get me outta there!!
Well...other than being exhausted, I feel pretty good!
Now I gotta wash all the pooped and puked clothes and bed sheets...
Yeah....that stuff we call "stomach flu" has nothing to do with the Influenza virus, therefore the flu shot I got didn't even slow this virus down!
May I suggest that you all go wash your hands....so you don't get it, too!
It was NOT fun and is DEFINITELY something I hope to NEVER experience again.....EVER!
So....has everybody had a better last few days than I have! [hug]

Agreed... the Stomach Virus is a more appropriate description than Stomach Flu. The Flu has its months or seasons of the yr when it's most contiguous but the Stomach Flu is year round.

What a horrendous story, izzy! Im glad youre on the mend. Nothing worse than that nauseous feeling. You feel like youre going to die. And want to! I was nauseous for a yr. Spending lovely evenings curled up on a towel on the bathroom floor as vesuvious felt imminent. I was given this kids cough syrup, phenergan. Cough syrup? Yup, cause side effect is extreme drowsiness.

Glad youre feeling better, and hope everyone is well soon!

Oh no! I'm really happy that you're all feeling so much better now.

I had actual food poisoning a few days after Christmas because of freakin apples. APPLES!
Apparently there was this mass recall on them but I didn't find out about it until I had already ate 4 or 5 of them.
Fever, weakness, my head felt like it would fall off or explode, and I vomited until I was hacking up pure blood.
My husband freaked out a bit because I refused over and over to go to the hospital.
And I turn into a antisocial hermit grouch when I'm sick. I'm super duper hateful and want to be left alone.
When my fever got to high I staggered to the bathroom and just laid in the shower with the cold water on and the light off.
Still dressed, but I didn't care about anything during that time.
I stayed like that for a few hours at a time any time it spiked.
I hate being sick, and I absolutely despise anyone trying to hover around me when I'm like that.
It amazes me I didn't get the trots to go with it but I never did. I puked until I couldn't and then dry heaved some more.
So I spent my 5th wedding anniversary home alone and barely coherent in a pained and fever induced daze.
I told him to go to work, but never realized that he had left much less when he got home.
I refuse to eat apples now. I used to love them. Honestly I'm to wary to eat any now.
I'm sort of scared of doctors due to bad experiences with them growing up.
It was so bad that I almost gave in and let him take me to the hospital at a few points.
So yeah after my recent hell week in a half dead pained daze, I've been put off apples prolly forever... [:-x]
He won't touch a apple now either and he used to always take one with him to work.
My husband is my total opposite when sick, he's a cry baby. He wants to be cuddled, coddled, and petted. [lol]

Sounds like you had Norovirus, commonly known as winter vomiting virus if only it knew when it's not winter.

Yikes! I hope the bug leaves your house soon! We've had a nasty one like that recently and now I can't really eat fried chicken or even smell it because that's what I threw up. I think we got it while we were on a trip. So now i'm thinking about bringing along hand sanitizer and making everyone use it before we eat.

Inzanebraned 04-16-2015 07:36 PM

YES! Please remember to bring hand sanitizer everywhere ya go...especially if ya plan to eat while you are out and wont have facilities to properly wash your hands.
When the ambulance attendant was asking me questions and I told her that I rarely get to leave my house, she asked if I had been to the store lately....and I had... She said "Then ya got the stomach bug there!" ...and even if I hadn't picked it up at the store, the BF has been out to numerous locations and may well have brought the virus home to us....(gee thanks, BF! ....cant say he never gave me anything! Lol!)
Poor Sarah has runny poops...the kind that leeches out of her adult sized diapers....making for more laundry for me to wash...by HAND, by the way!
I stopped feeding Sarah solid food for a while...mainly keeping her hydrated....cuz if Sarah were to vomit....say, in her bed,on her back, she might choke on it and suffocate!
Hope has been keeping food down, now...but the poops are watery, still.
She is sleeping a lot today.
My muscles are so sore from all the dry heaving I did once my stomach was empty...and the hyperventilating.
I hope we are all much better by Monday....cuz that's my birthday!
I certainly hope that even my worst enemy (if I have any) never has to go through this kinda suffrage!
I kept asking the nurses "Are you sure I'm not gonna die?" ....dying would have felt pretty good at that moment! Lol!
They insisted I wasn't gonna die....and I didn't!
I'm still here to tell the tale! *whew!*

Ava The Vampire 04-17-2015 09:59 PM

I hope you guys feel better soon!
Being sick is the worst thing in the world. I have a horrible fear of vomiting, so I cannot imagine being so sick!

El Yucko! I had gastroenteritis way back in March 2012. I contracted that nasty bug from spoiled food. After dicussing my illness with my buddy Ed, he concluded that I had gastroenteritis and the way to rid myself of this bug was to consume soda pop. Ed told me that the acidic content in the soda pop harms the bacteria that was causing the lovely gastroenteritis.

Having worked many years in a hospital environment, Ed has gained a lot of useable medical knowledge. Drinking the soda pop probably cut short that awful illness by a couple of days at least.

Why the hospital staff you dealt didn't convey this cheap cure to you doesn't speak well of their attitude or their care of patients in their charge and that is sad. This mean ole world is just getting meaner.

That sucks hope its all gone from yalls system now I had something like that two months ago it was horrible my food wasn't digesting I puked twice 5 to 7 times each round my mom had it an heard few others had it yogurt helps has good bacteria every now and then its good to stable the stomach

Inzanebraned 05-21-2015 07:23 AM

Coincidentally, I craved yogurt during the first days of feeling better....and the BF was kind enough to buy me some....Then a friend reminded me that I needed to replace the good bacteria I had lost during the "purging,"....and I had already done it! Lol!
Sometimes its just good to listen to your body and do what it tell ya to do.
