my usb mic isn't working properly

I'm using a Cyber Acoustics usb mic on my windows 8.1 laptop for recording let's plays but it's not working. I made sure it's the default recording device and that I choose that particular mic in Audacity and/or Kristal audio recording programs.

It's a brand new mic that I literally just opened last week. All of the drivers are updated but still nothing.

Has anyone had a problem like this? Where the audio recording program allows you to choose your usb mic but when you press "record", absolutely no sound is recorded when you speak into the mic?

This is really starting to annoy me and I'm this close to just getting the Elgato Game Capture HD60 and avoid Audacity and Kristal altogether but I'm afraid that if my usb mic won't work with Audacity and Kristal, it might not work with Elgato either. I don't wanna burn $170+ for nothing DX

Any ideas?

Does the mic come with any "default" software? Or have you tried a windows default program to see if it picks it up? There are also free tests online you could try. Or even Skype's call dummy to see if it works. My only other idea is to try alternate USB ports to see if it picks up there.

That's really scary! Did your laptop have a mic built in? Maybe there are drivers for the built-in mic causing issues. :c I would also try using it with other programs like Pandie suggested.

ah the mic is a part of a usb headset but it didnt come with cd software or anything. Windows is supposed to just detect it when i plug it in and automatically download the required drivers. I also tried using other usb ports and it still didn't work. ^^;

Yeah my laptop has a built in mic. It works just fine but it's not practical for me to use since having my laptop in front of me while I'm trying to record let's plays would just be cumbersome lol ^^;;

Thanks for the suggestions guys ^^ After tinkering around with my headset I found out that I just needed to place my headset on the right side of my head instead of the left >_< For some reason, when i move the adjustable mic to the left side it wouldn't work almost at all. -_- I'm guessing that moving the mic there somehow messes up it's connection within the headset itself? The usb plug and the usb ports on the computer were perfectly fine, it was just the mic's position that was the problem -_- That's the only explanation I can think of. I've tested putting the mic on the right side multiple times over the course of several days and it still works like new. -_-

As embarrassing as all this is I'm really grateful for the help you 2 gave me ^^ Thank you so much guys XD This community is so helpful X)

I'm glad you figured it out! Thankfully it was something that was so easily fixed. c:
