"Fine. Perfectly fine." Lori placed a hand on the slight cut on her stomach. "Your not my mother anymore." Damien turned away. "I will have nothing more to do with you or the league of shadows. If you come near my family again I will not hesitate to take you down?"

Bruce looked up, slightly surprised by Damian's words. Of course, given the circumstances, it made sense, he just never expected the boy to cut all ties with his mother.

Talia went to step towards Damien but Ra's stopped her. "We are out of time." Ra's pulled her away as sirens filled the air. Damien took a deep breath shaking a little he blinked as Lori pulled him into a tight hug. He blinked again and then started to cry into her shoulder hugging her back.

Bruce threw one last glare at Ra's and Talia, then turned to be with his family. "Lori, do you think you need to go to the hospital? The police will try to send you anyway, so I might as well take you." He said, not wanting to break up the moment between Lori and Damian but too worried to leave them alone at the moment.

Lori went to speak and then chocked on her wounds gasping. "LORI!" Damien managed to keep her from falling. "What's wrong?" he looked so worried as he looked to his father not knowing what to do."

Not for the first time, Bruce was glad that his face was covered so that Lori and Damian couldn't see him panicking. He picked Lori up carefully. "Hospital. Now." He said, before taking off.

Damien followed along while Jason stayed to deal with the police. Lori panted and gripped the suit tight moaning a little "It hurts." she shook a little trying not to be scared. Damien changed first and got a wheelchair for Lori "Go change I got it for right know." he promised and hurried in pausing to grab Gemini along not sure how to sign Lori in.

Bruce left as soon as he was sure that Lori would be taken care of. He changed faster than he had ever changed before in his life and drove back to the hospital.

Gemini had been wandering the halls, giving Rosemary some privacy. As soon as she saw Lori, she started running and helped Damian sign her in.

The doctors took Lori allowing Gemini in only when Lori refused to let go of her hand. Damien waited pacing he wanted to tell Rose but he had to make sure Lori would be alright.

Bruce arrived at the waiting room just minutes after Lori was brought in. He saw Damian pacing there and knew what he was thinking. "Damian, you go wait with Rosemary. I'll come by after to tell you what happened."

Damien nodded and went to Rose's room his face a dark cloud of worry. He took Rose's hand and without pausing launched into the tale chocking at the end and nearly crushing her hand.

Rosemary looked up from her book when Damian entered. She didn't even have time to ask what had happened before he started telling her. By the end, she had a hand over her mouth and a few tears leaking from her eyes. "Oh...Damian..." She didn't know what to say to comfort him, so she hugged him instead.

Bruce proceeded to pace up and down the halls, waiting impatiently to hear what was wrong with his wife.

"I should have just gone with them when they asked the first time. None of this would have happened." Damien hugged her back.

Eventually a doctor came out a frown on his face. "Your wife had some internal bleeding." he started. "Someone beat her up badly. Unfortunately the stress and wounds caused a miss carriage." he straightened his coat out. "She's resting know and once all the bleeding stops she'll be able to go home. She'll still have to take it easy for a while." he sighed. "Seems this city isn't safe even with Batman around. You may go see her."

"No, Damian." Rosemary shook her head. "You know that's not true. Talia would never have just left uncle Bruce alone. She would have gone after auntie Lori eventually, no matter what. And if you had been with them, you would have had to help." She said reasonably.

Bruce felt like all the air had gone out of his lungs, but he still managed to speak in a strangle whisper. "Thank you, doctor." He said, then walked into the room to see Lori.

"Maybe your right." Damien sighed. "They are no longer my family though." He looked upset by that. "I had hoped...we all make are choices though."

Lori was staring at the wall a crushed look on her face. She glanced over at Bruce and started to cry.

"I'm so sorry." Rosemary knew how badly Damian wanted his family to be whole. "I know it doesn't mean much, but...you've still got us. We're your family, too."

Bruce walked quickly to her side and knelt down, taking her hand. "Lori...I'm sorry. This is all my fault...I should have stayed with you. I should have tried harder. I...I keep saying how important it is to protect everyone, but I couldn't even protect the most important person to me..." The doctor's comment about Batman still rang in his ears. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry."

"It's not your fault Bruce." Lori squeezed his hand tightly. "If anyone is to blame its Ra's and Talia there messed up." She sniffles a little. "You can't be everywhere love and if you had chosen me over a innocent person I would be able to live with that." She sighed. "You didn't know just how messed up those two were either. Don't beat yourself up." She looked at Gemini for help.

Damien smiled. "I know. You guys have been more of a family then my own mom." He sighed a little. "I should see how Lori is." He stared at her. "I'm sorry Rose. I shouldn't have let them hurt you."

Gemini, who had stayed silent up till then, nodded. "She'd right, Bruce. No one could have guessed just how bad they were. Even Damian never thought they'd do something like this." She put a hand on his shoulder. "You did your best, Bruce, and you saved Lori in the end. Lori's going to be okay, too. And Damian's still with us. I'd call that a victory, wouldn't you?"

Bruce sighed. "Yes...I suppose I can count that as a victory. I just..." He thought about the baby that would never be born, and his breath hitched. "It's hard...that I couldn't save everyone. But as long as Lori is alive and safe, I can live with it." He smiled weakly at Lori.

Rosemary grabbed his hand and squeezed it tightly. "You didn't know it was them, Damian. And I'm the one who wasn't careful enough around that boy. I should have known better. But you...you saved me. I'd be dead if it weren't for you. So don't beat yourself up, okay?"

"But...Rose they asked me weeks ago if I wanted to join them I refused them twice actually. The second time mother said I would regret the decision...I couldn't have imagined she meant this." Damien shuddered. "I can't help but wonder what would have happened if I had just said yes."

Lori thought of the baby as well. "It's alright...I wasn't that for a long." It broke her heart a little to say it that way because to her that week old life had already been precious. "We can have plenty more." her tone was joking.

"But even then you didn't know what they'd do. You just said you had no idea, so it's not like you knew and could have stopped it." Rosemary said. Her expression changed slightly. "I know exactly what would have happened if you'd said yes." She muttered. "And you know, too. They knew about us...if you'd said yes, they would have made you kidnap and mutilate me. And they would have made you help kidnap auntie Lori." She smiled up at him. "It's better...we're all happy that you stayed with us. I couldn't handle being your enemy."

Bruce let out a sound that was half laugh and half sob. "Yeah...right." He said, though he knew they wouldn't try to have more. It would be foolish to have a child just to try and replace the one they'd lost. "You need to rest, my love. Do you want me to stay with you? Gemini can go talk to the kids and tell them what happened...or she could stay with you and I'd go talk to the kids."

Lori thought for a moment. "That's a tricky question. Damien listens to you but Rose is Gemini's kid." she thought for a moment. "You go Bruce." she wanted to ask Gemini something in private.

"I couldn't handle that either." Damien smiled at her. "When your better...let's go catch a movie. I'll buy and then I'll buy you lunch to." he was blushing. He was asking in his own awkward way if she would go out on a date with him.

Bruce nodded. "Alright. I'll be back in a while to check on you." He said, standing up. "You two don't have a crazy party while I'm gone." He joked before leaving.

Rosemary's cheeks flushed an adorable pink color, and she smiled. "Sure...I'd like that." She said shyly.

Damien smiled and relaxed a little. "It will be nice to take a night off."

Lori took a breath and let it out. "What do I do?" She asked Gemini a hand over her stomach. "I had been hoping for another child but know...". She trailed off. "Bruce is so upset and I can't even bring up the subject without being sick. I don't think I can fix this." Tears appeared in her eyes.

Rosemary made a face, but chuckled. "Really? I've only been off duty one night and I'm going crazy." She said. She liked being useful, having something to do, doing physical work.

Just then, there was a knock on the door and Bruce entered. "Hey. Am I interrupting anything?" He asked, looking between Rosemary and Damian.

Gemini sat down on the edge of Lori's bed and took her hand. "I'm so sorry, Lori. I..." She sighed. "I have...one idea...no, two ideas, but only one of them would matter. The problem is it's risky and I don't know if you're going to go for it."

"I'm listening." Lori smiled at her friend glad she was there for her.

Damien dropped Rose's hand blushing. "No." he looked away.
