All the Time in the World
It seemed to be a normal day as far as Leia knew. She worked her first job slinging coffee, opening shift as always, had her lunch break between jobs, and then went to her second job in a department store. She and Diana met up for dinner, since they didn't have any real food in the apartment.
"Oh god today sucked," she groaned as she sank into the seat across from her twin. |
Diana sat down heavily as well.
"Oh good, I'm not the only one," she said as she leaned her head back and closed her eyes. "Today was horrible." |
"It really was," Leia groaned. "Well, maybe we can go back to our apartment and just watch a movie and have some ice cream." She was kind of looking forward to that, actually.
"That sounds like a wonderful idea," Diana replied. She rubbed her eyes a bit, sighing. "Dig out the electric blanket, too, that sounds nice."
"Oh yes," Leia agreed with a sigh. "Right, well, let's just finish dinner and then go ahead and settle in."
"Good plan," Diana said, nodding. Dinner and then home sounded lovely.
As soon as they finished with dinner, Leia got up and stretched a bit. "Alright, let's go." She headed for the door.
Unknown to the girls, there was a group of Harvesters out in the city, picking off people that wouldn't be missed. |
One of the Harvesters had a list in hand, and was crossing off lines as each human was taken.
"Just two more on this run," he said, glancing around. |
"Let's go," one of the others said. It was a team of three this time, and this one was anxious to be done and get off the planet and get paid already. He checked the pictures of the last two one more time before he nodded and set off.
The other two followed him, keeping an eye out, just in case. They didn't want anyone interfering this close to the end of the job.
Fortunately, it didn't take long to track down the last two, and he knocked the two out easily.
Not far away, Steve was with Bucky, tracking down a few illegal harvesters. He would greatly relish turning these ones over. |
Bucky was definitely going to enjoy turning these harvesters in. He'd noticed that they seemed to have a pattern in who they took, and it pissed him off that they were only taking females of a certain age bracket.
Steve stilled when he heard something and then crept forward cautiously.
"There," he murmured to Bucky. "They have two more with them." He lifted his upper lip in a sneer, eyes flashing almost golden. |
"Well, then, what are we waiting for?" Bucky asked, smirking. The muted light glinted off teeth that looked a little too sharp to be human.
"Just don't hit the humans," Steve said before he stepped out, pulling a weapon and shooting the first harvester in the shoulder. The other two swore and pulled their own weapons.
Leia was watching everything through increasingly-heavy lids. They'd given her some kind of sedative, and she was rapidly losing consciousness. But she was awake enough to know that none of the tech was familiar. |
Bucky smirked and took to the air, skating easily over and gliding around to take the other two from behind. He was very firmly of the opinion that the anti-grav boots were the best thing he'd ever been issued.
Diana struggled to keep her eyes open, and she was losing the fight. The last thing she saw was someone levitating past, and wasn't that the weirdest thing? |
Steve handled cuffing the three harvesters, leaving them in a huddle on the ground as he went over to investigate the two now unconscious humans.
"Twins," he murmured in surprise, looking between the two. He took a careful whiff to make sure they were going to be alright, and his nose twitched and started itching. He rubbed his nose, sure he was wrong, and tried again. This time, the tips of his fingers started tingling, something that only happened around one group of people. "Oh, shit." |
"Twins?" Bucky echoed, interested now. Twins were so rare he'd never actually encountered any before, and he went over to investigate. Before he even got close, he caught a whiff of them and sneezed. "Oh hell no..."
Steve groaned. "We need to get these two to Tony," he said, making a face. "The rest shouldn't give us any trouble." Things had just gotten much more complicated.
"Damn it, why's it got to be us?" Bucky asked. He moved in and nudged one of the girls. "At least they're out for now. Makes it a bit easier."
"I'm not explaining to them," Steve immediately said. "Not doing it." But he got Tony to bring the ride to them, to pick up them, the girls, and the harvesters to be turned over.
"You're more cuddly than I am, you're less likely to freak them out," Bucky replied as he kept an eye out for their ride. Tony tended to like going in style.
"I am not! Besides, you're a dog practically, dogs are supposed to be friends of humans. Something like that." Steve grimaced a bit when Tony flashed their ride into existence above them, turning off the reflective panels.
"Cats are fluffy, girls like fluffy, right?" Bucky replied as Tony arrived. He grimaced as well. Damn Tony for being so gaudy...
"You're plenty fluffy," Steve said. He sent the harvesters up first, and then picked up a girl and followed.
