Contessa was glad he had found what the problem was, and knew that now was when he would really start to have fun because now he'd actually be able to make it. "All done Daylen, I'm glad I could help." she said softly and lined up the flasks in a straight line. She then looked over at him and watched in silence as he started to get the pieces he needed for the watering system. This was going to be fun to watch, and it was obviously going to be fun to make. Quietly, she walked over to where he was working, and gave him some room while she watched in silence.
Piece after piece he took out, laying them gently on the top of the desk. He had pieces for timers and automatic triggers. He closed the drawer and softly smiled at Contessa. Enough he never looked at her. "I wake you a shelf for the solarium so you can store them." He said softly. That would be a easy project. One he could do tonight if he couldn't sleep. He slowly paired up the pieces making sure each would fit with it's future counterpart. He opened a new drawer to retrieve his tools. He eyed the screws and bolts as he placed them near the selected parts. Slowly he began to piece them together, melting parts to where they needed to be.
"Oh it's okay, you don't have to but thank-you." Contessa replied and watched with a smile on her face as Daylen started to work on the watering system for her garden. Well their garden really since they were both sort of working on it together. She wondered what other things he would work on when he was done with all this. Her mind drifted back to the books of blue prints he had, hopefully she could help him out with those ideas too. He worked so much, too much in her opinion. He really needed to get some sleep, hopefully he would get plenty of sleep tonight.
Suddenly a click filled the air. The first of the triggers and timer work perfectly. Daylen just set it aside and gathered the next pieces to repeat the process. "Not at all, keeps me busy. Plus I like making things for you." He spoke softly to her as he never took his eyes from the pieces he was connecting together. Even though Contessa was just watching. Daylen was enjoying her help. Her conversations and presence was enough for him. He melted a small wire into place, the smell floating into the air as he did. "What do you like to do as a hobby?" He asked her focusing on the task at hand. "Besides gardening." He was curious even if it didn't show by him not looking at her or with his plain emotionless face.
This was it, her chance to say how she felt about him working so much. "I-I know... and I think that's very sweet of you really; but don't you think you should take breaks every now and then?" she asked and felt as if she was going to upset him by showing her concern. "You deserve to take breaks, rest, sleep, eat." she continued and smiled softly. "Working all the time isn't very healthy..." she concluded and sniffed the air as a burning smell filled the air. Oh, he wanted to know about her? "Well.." she started and thought for a bit. "Painting. I remember when I was younger, I used to paint destroyed furniture. Restore it I suppose you can call it. The vanity table in my room was in horrid condition when I found it. I dragged it back home and my dad helped me fix it up before I could start painting it. That was fun." she answered softly.
Daylen just stopped hearing Contessa. Did he work that much? He knew that he hid away from the world. Most of the times he just fiddled to pass the time, he guessed, in a way he did. He looked at her softly. He honestly felt lazy if he wasn't fiddling or working. He had done them since he started locking himself away from the world. "It's all I done since I started to hide from the world, I honestly don't think I would have made it if not for working." He told her truthfully. Daylen just turned back to the pieces in his hands. He didn't want to get her depressed but after his father died. He was so depressed it later turned to suicidal. He only discovered tinkering and alchemy from his father's old books. They had helped him from the depression, to a certain extent. He softly smiled, she liked to refurbish things. He found it quite cute that she liked to restore old things, just like she was doing with his father's solarium. "My attic is full of old furniture, childhood toys, most of them are badly burnt. You are welcome to fix them if you like. There is also an old easel and paints up there." He told her softly. He was trying to make it easy for her to adjust when she moved in here after the wedding. He would easily give her money for any supplies she would like. Buy her anything she wanted really.
"I never said I wanted you to stop completely..." Contessa muttered quietly. She felt stupid for voicing her concern. It was none of her business whether he worked a lot or not and it was not her place to ask him to stop. If he was comfortable working all the time, then she really didn't have to get him to relax. "Sorry for bringing it up." she said softly and smiled slightly when he mentioned all the old things he had in his attic. An attic full of broken toys and furniture, she was sure that she'd be stuck up there and in the garden once she moved here after marrying him. They'd both be in their own little worlds. Not exactly the best marriage but oh well, it really wasn't supposed to be since they were being forced to get married anyway.
Daylen just shook his head softly. "No, you're right. I do work too much." He agreed with her. He set the second finished trigger and timer down on his desk. He turned toward Contessa and smiled his soft, sweet smile. "I promise that I'll slow down when we get married." He meant it, he would try for her. "We may be forced into this marriage by the Elders, however I want us to work. I don't want a distant marriage. I want a happy one." He told her the last part shyly. He hoped she didn't find that odd of him. He knew that they didn't know each other still, but he hoped they could fix that a little before they got married. Suddenly he remembered something, he went to his desk and took out some papers. He came back to her and handed the papers. "These are just some simple forms I would like you to sign. Don't worry they're not a prenup. You can take them home and read them." He told her softly. They were simple forms to have her added to his accounts and title to the manor once they were married. "My mother always said a marriage is a partnership. Everything is shared." He told her softly. Although he didn't know her that well, deep down he knew she wouldn't hurt him in any manner.
"I feel terrible for saying that though. If you're comfortable working then I shouldn't be asking anything of you. It's not my place to ask you to stop for a while." Contessa replied with a frown on her face. His words surprised her. Was he really going to slow down just for her? That didn't seem very fair even though it was appreciated. "I want a happy one too." she agreed and blushed lightly. I blush way too easily... she thought to herself. Contessa looked at the papers and nodded. "I'll read them at home then." she said and looked back at Daylen. "Your mother is right, everything is shared in marriage." she agreed and remembered something. Weren't they missing something for the wedding? She tried to think of what it could be but nothing came up.
The smile never left his face as he shook his head gently. "Don't feel bad. It just became a habit really. I do love working, it helped me deal with the loneliness from sealing my myself way." He simply told her. It was true. It was the best way to pass the time and help him deal with being by himself. "You are to be my wife. You can ask anything of me you wish." He told her shyly. He just looked at the floor embarrassed slightly about what he was about to say. "To be honest. I do have another passion besides working." He would tell her since Sirus wasn't here, he knew he would tell anyone that would listen to him about his secret. "I like playing the violin and piano." He said softly, he only played at night when he couldn't sleep or Sirus wouldn't pop out and scare him.
"Just because I am your fiance does not give me the right to tell you what to do. Everyone is their own person and should be able to do what they want." she said honestly but smiled as she said so. She wasn't mad or anything, just being honest. "I can tell you love working, you always seem so relaxed when you work and it's easier to talk to you when you work." she commented softly as she brushed some hair away from her face. "Another passion?" she repeated and grinned when he told her that he loved to play the piano and the violin. "You do?" she repeated and hugged herself. "I'm sure you play beautifully. How long have you been playing?" she asked curiously.
Her words made him smile, it was slightly more of a smile then his normal one. He agreed, but he didn't mind if she wanted to spend more time with him outside of him working. Daylen just nodded lightly. He did love playing those two instruments. Granted he never played in front of anyone. "Ever since I grew my limbs back. I guess about ten years." He told her softly. "I was fifteen when I first made that tonic I gave you successfully." It took more than two days however to fully grow back his leg, shoulder and arm. "I only play at night, I never played in front of anyone." He said shyly. He wasn't sure if he wanted to play in front of anyone.
"Ten years..." she repeated in awe as she nodded her head in understanding. "So you have quite a lot of practice. Is there one you prefer to play over the other?" she asked and smiled, it was so nice to talk to him without feeling so nervous. This was the only time she could talk to him so freely. Any other time she just remained silent unless she was spoken to. I guess we both have that in common after all... she thought to herself. He really was a smart guy and it saddened her to know that he became so smart through all the tragic events in his life. If anything like that happened to her she'd be devastated, but he pressed on and this is the end result. "Are you nervous of playing in front of others?" she asked quietly.
"The violin. My favorite song to play is Stranger Sun." He loved that song. It was rather relaxing to play. He just held out his hand for Contessa so he could lead to her the music room. "Never had a person I wanted to play for." He simply told her. "I'll let you be the first, you can tell me if I'm horrible or not." He said shyly to her. He was slightly nervous but she probably hear him one night if she woke up to find him gone from bed. Might as well get it over with right. He had not played in a few weeks, it would be nice practice at least.
Contessa's blush only got brighter when he offered to play for her. It was really sweet of him to open up to her like that. Placing her hand in his hand, she smiled shyly. "I'm sure you are not horrible Daylen." she assured softly. "I'm sure you'll do a wonderful job." she added then and looked at the floor nervously. Music was something was something she liked to listen to when she could, even if she couldn't play herself.
Daylen just lead her down the hallway once she gave him her hand. The opened the door to a rather large room with a vault roof. There was a large fireplace in the center the far right wall. A black grand piano laid near the window, Victorian styled furniture just added to its elegant charm. Daylen gently let go of her hand before walking to a shelf the framed the fireplace. He opened a case before taking out a deep cherry red violin. He gently tune the violin. He just took a deep breath before looking at her. "What would you like to hear? I'll try to play it the best I can." He said softly to Contessa. He was waiting for her to sit on one of the couches.
Her eyes scanned the entire room before resting on Daylen as he tuned the beautiful violin in his hands. She was never going to get used to how beautiful this home was and was more than likely going to get lost a few times. "Oh...well why don't you play Stranger Sun? It is your favorite song and I'd love to hear it." she replied warmly as she sat down on one of the lovely couches which was incredibly comfortable, she could easily fall to sleep on one if she was sleepy enough.
Daylen just smiled softly. "Stranger Sun it is." He rested the violin on his shoulder before placing his chin on the chinrest. Positioning his fingers and slowly rose the bow. He just took a deep breath. He was slightly nervous as he began to play his favorite song. Daylen just closed his eyes as he played softly. His fingers moving skillfully as he played. The further he went into the song the more he relaxed. His eyes never opening as he played. Once the song ended, he opened his eyes. He lowered his violin, he hoped he wasn't bad at playing it. All his nerves came back as he looked at Contessa.
Contessa listened, fascinated at the beautiful song that he was playing. It gave her chills for some reason but she smiled anyway through the entirety of the song. He looked entirely relaxed as the song progressed and that made her happy. She enjoyed seeing him happy, no matter what it was that he did. When he was finished, she stood and clapped. "That was beautiful Daylen, and a real pleasure to listen to. You are not terrible at all, I knew you'd be wonderful." she chimed happily.
He smiled at Contessa, she was sweet. "I'm not that good." He simply replied embarrassed. He turned to look at his violin shyly. She was the first person he ever played in front of. He was glad she liked it. She would probably come in here at night if she heard him play once they were married. "I'm glad you liked it. Would you like to hear anything else?" He asked her just as shyly as before. He was still nervous playing in front of her, if he kept playing then maybe he wouldn't be. He didn't know why he was nervous so much to play in front of her but he was.
"Yes you are Daylen. You're better than me because you can actually play." she said and laughed softly. When he asked her if she wanted to hear anything else she blushed and looked down at her feet nervously. "If...If it's not too much trouble, I'd love to hear you play something on the piano. Anything you want." she replied quietly and peaked up at him. He looked cute when he was shy. Did she really make him that nervous? "I-if you want to that is. If not we can do something else. Whatever you'd prefer." she added quickly.
Daylen just nodded softly, he could play the piano. He just placed his violin back into it's case before going to the piano. He lifted the keyboard casing as he debated what to play. Once he figured out what to play, Daylen sat down on the bench in front of the piano. He gently placed his fingers on the keys. He began to play another one of his favorite songs. It was a very sad song but he loved it. He watched the keys as the melody filled the air with sadden. He was softly singing along to in inside of his mind. The song could bring tears to anyone that could understand it's true meaning. Something he had learnt the hardest of ways.
Contessa took her seat on the couch and listened to the sad music that filled the room. Oh no! Not a sad song.. she thought to herself and frowned as she listened to the saddening melody that resulted from the piano keys he was pressing with ease. Again, he looked relaxed but focused on the keys. Was this a favorite song of his? Something told her this song was very important or special to him. She didn't know what the song meant to him, but whatever it was, it was special. She just hoped he wouldn't cry, it would tear at her heart if he cried.
As the song ended, Daylen just looked at the keys in silence. He smiled softly after a little. "Don't love, that was the name of the song." He simply told her. Most of the songs he knew where sad, but he loved the melodies. He turned to her, the smile never left his pale face. "I'm sorry, I only really know depressing songs." He looked at the keys once more. He could play them better. He found it easier to pour his feeling into the songs. Gently he pressed the keys once more. Slowly he began in to play Stranger Sun on the piano. With every key, he watched his fingers glided into place. Filling the air with music once more.
Contessa smiled weakly and shook her head, "That was beautiful. Don't be sorry, I loved it." she whispered and fought back the tears that threatened to fall down her cheeks. "I can tell that this song is very special and important to you." she whispered and smiled a crooked smile. At least he was enjoying this, and so was she. He was now playing Stranger sun again, this time on the piano and she was relaxed at the lovely music filling the room. She was sure if anyone else heard him play, they would agree that he was very talented.
