"I guess so," Shay agreed. She paused for a moment. "Five baby raptors that will need training."
Owen groaned. "Okay. I'm heading out of here, I'll get Blue something to eat, and we'll meet back up in the control room to plan."
"Alright," Shay responded. "We'll stay out here until you're back in the valley, just in case Regina comes out this way."
"Alright." Owen set his radio back on his belt and left, heading back to the ATV to go hunting for Blue again. He was used to this by now.
Shay and her raptors kept watch in the woods, until she got the signal from Owen that he was back out in the valley. Once she got that signal, she whistled to Indigo and Garnet, and the two took off towards the edge of the trees. Clearly, they wanted to go run down some gallies again, and Shay followed them so she could keep them in check.
Owen ended up getting back to command first, and when he got there he was a little surprised at the bustle.
"What's up?" he asked Jalia. "People on the island," she answered, her voice flat as she got every available camera and heat detector online and trying to pinpoint the extra humans. "Not sure how many yet." |
"The hell?" Owen said, going over to the nearest monitor. "What is wrong with people, what part of 'dinosaurs' do they not get?"
"Clearly, people have short memories." Jalia's voice was dry but tense. "I can spot five, I don't know if that's all of them. They're making their way inland." She swore quietly. "I don't have the cameras up in this area, just the thermals."
"Let's hope they don't run into Shay, she's still got her raptors out there," Owen muttered. "Can't imagine that meeting'll go over well."
"So far they're not far enough inland, not if Shay let her raptors go after the gallies again." Jalia shook her head. "Of course, since these people are clearly so intelligent, I don't think it would be all that bad an idea..." She trailed off into baleful mumbling.
"Go ahead and give her a heads' up anyway," Owen said, flicking between a few displays.
"Hey, Shay, we've got people on the island," Jalia said into her walkie. "They're not near you, they're still near the coast, but just keep an eye open."
"People?" Shay responded. She watched as Indy and Garnet had fun chasing around some gallies. "Since when is anyone other than us crazy enough to come back here?"
"Since now, apparently," Jalia replied dryly. "There are people, we'll go investigate soon, I'm keeping track of them on the thermals. Just keep your raptors away, okay? Don't want any trouble."
Shay snorted.
"It's their own fault if they get too close," she said, "they know we have carnivores here. Raptors are basically bloodhounds made of teeth, come on." |
"It'll be your problem when the family inevitably sues, because illegal or not, you know they will," Jalia replied evenly. "I warned you, so just keep it in mind." Shaking her head, she switched back to tracking the idiots on the island and seeing what systems she could finish getting online.
"I know, I know, relax," Shay replied. "I won't let anyone get chewed on, I'll keep the raptors out here. Just make sure to keep the people closer to the command booth."
"Already working on it," Jalia said. Which was hard considering they had no fences, and the thermal imaging of the island was still spotty, as was actual imaging. Half of the cameras still needed to be replaced. But she was already working out what she could do to keep the stupid people from being eaten.
"Alright," Shay said. "I'll patrol out here, make sure none of the dinos get too close to the people side of the park. Let me know when everyone is inside, and I'll bring Indy and Garnet back to Paddock Nine."
"Will do." Jalia shook her head, already trying to figure out what to do about the people and how to get them off the island again. Unfortunately, since she knew nothing about them, it did make things more difficult.
shay signaled to her raptors and headed towards the far edge of the island. May as well start her patrol out there and make her way back towards the people side of the island later, to give Jalia a chance to figure out what was going on.
Jalia worked furiously to get a decent track on the people. And then she kept track of them on her tablet.
"Owen, I'm heading off to go take a look at these people." |
"Be careful," Owen said, moving over to the screens to keep an eye on things. "Give a holler if you need a hand, alright? I'll let you know when Shay is back."
"Will do." Jalia headed down to take one of the ATVs out. She was careful not to get too close to the people, but close enough that she could get a decent look at what they were doing.
The people weren't doing anything but exploring the ruins of the theme park. They seemed jumpy and nervous, but they weren't actually doing anything.
Elsewhere, Shay took a sharp turn as her raptors suddenly veered off to one side, distracted by something. |
