"I bet," Sabine agreed with a bit of a grin. "So, tea and shopping. And then whatever else." She pulled the door open, ushering Cam in first.
"Sounds like a plan to me," Cameron replied, letting Sabine nudge her inside. It didn't take long for her to get her tea and find a seat near the windows.
Sabine settled across from her with her own tea. She did pause when she saw a bit of a flash mob outside. There were a lot of people all of a sudden heading for the cafe. But she didn't point it out.
She didn't need to point it out. Cameron saw them out the window herself as she sipped her tea.
"Flash mob?" she said, glancing at Sabine. "That doesn't seem right." |
"I know, it does seem odd," Sabine agreed, frowning a bit at the people. The other people in the cafe looked startled too, and something in her said that this was not right. But she couldn't quite pinpoint why.
Cameron glanced around and then leaned in closer.
"What are they thinking about?" she prodded Sabine. "The flash mob. What are they thinking about doing?" |
Sabine blinked but then frowned and focused on the group. Too late. Three of them actually moved into the cafe and went straight towards Sabine. Two more came out from the back, also heading straight towards their table.
"What?!" Cameron dropped her tea and held up her hands in a 'stop' gesture, trying to keep them away with her telekinesis. Several chairs moved away from tables, putting themselves between them and the intruders. "What is this, what's going on?"
"I don't know!" Sabine's eyes were wide as one of the attackers leapt across the table and grabbed her. Five more swarmed in, and two of them managed to grab Cam.
"Hey!" Cameron tried to yank her arm back even as she tried to get Sabine free with her power. "Let me go! What is this?!"
"Which one of you is the filthy grafted?" one of the goons demanded.
Sabine bristled at their phrasing. "Why do you want to know?" she asked, and promptly got punched for her cheek. Somehow, someone was livestreaming the event online. When a facial recognition alarm went off, Jarvis investigated, and promptly told Tony, who ran out of the lab towards the nearest suit. |
"Hey! Don't touch her!" Cameron snapped when Sabine was backhanded. She focused, and sent the goon flying across the room with a force of will.
The goon was promptly replaced by another, and two more grabbed Cameron to try and subdue her. Sabine launched herself at one of the ones holding Cam, taking him out and sending another stumbling.
Cameron yelped when two more grabbed her, and she struggled to get away while trying to protect her midsection. It earned her a slap for her troubles, but at least nothing had been done to hurt the baby.
Sabine took a few more hits, but nothing too bad. And she managed to get back to Cam, panting a bit.
Which is about when Iron Man came charging in through one of the walls, taking out one goon and incapacitating another. |
One of the goons that got taken out was one holding Cameron, so she was sent tumbling to the floor. She instinctively curled up around her belly protectively as she hit the ground.
"Tony?" She peeked up over the table. |
"Cam!" Tony lifted the faceplate to get a better look at her. "Give me one minute." He turned and punched out the rest of the goons mercilessly.
Sabine got herself up, wincing. Oh, ouch. That was not fun. |
"Where did you even come from?" Cameron asked as she got to her feet. She wrapped one arm around her middle.
"The tower, as usual," Tony told her. "You alright to head back to the tower?"
Sabine grimaced but didn't object, moving over to Tony to hitch a ride back. |
"Yeah, I'm fine," Cameron said. She moved over to him with only the slightest hesitation. "You can take me back to the mansion too you know."
"Tower first, then back to the mansion," Tony said, making sure they were both secure before he flew back to the tower with them. He set Sabine down first, having Jarvis run a quick scan on her, although he had Jarvis run more scans on Cam. He made sure both girls were settled before he gave them a bit of privacy. He also texted Logan.
Your girlfriend is here, come get her. |
Cameron bit her lip when she realized Tony was having Jarvis run scans. There was no possible way Jarvis would miss her condition, and he would tell Tony before she could get him alone and tell him herself.
"I'm fine," she insisted. "I promise. Just a little bruised." |
"This will only take a few moments, Cameron," Jarvis assured her.
"I'm not doubting you," Cameron replied. "But I'm telling you I'm fine."
"Indeed, your wounds seem superficial," Jarvis agreed. "It also seems congratulations are in order."
