Logan grumbled a bit at that, but didn’t outright protest.
“Stark had better take care of her and that kid,” he said instead. |
"He will," Sabine assured him. "He knows better than to not."
“Good,” Logan said. He settled in a bit more, pulling her close to him so she was tucked in securely.
Sabine settled in there, warm and secure, at least for now. She didn't doubt that would change eventually, since she did still have to tell him what had happened. Maybe tomorrow.
Logan just held her, letting her drift off there. He knew she would talk when she was ready.
It took Sabine a couple of days to settle and relax enough to talk about it.
"So, those guys, the ones that jumped Cam and I," she started, tossing little bits of wood into the fire. |
"Yeah," Logan said carefully. "What about 'em?" He used a stick to poke at the fire, nudging some logs aside to add a new one.
"They, uh. They were looking for me. It wasn't just some... random attack." Sabine threw a couple more twigs into the fire. "They knew I was a graft-mutant."
"Did they," Logan growled. He'd definitely have to let Charles know about that. "Got what they deserved, then."
Sabine shrugged. "Didn't get around to asking them how they knew, or anything." She smiled wryly. "Apparently I'm an abomination, even to mutants."
Logan reached over and put an arm around her.
"That's a lie," he said. "Assholes like that'll say anything to upset you." |
"You say it's a lie," Sabine pointed out reasonably. "Not everyone does. There are people who think that, Logan. And, I mean, kinda valid."
"There's no reason to say yer any different than the rest of us," Logan retorted. "Doesn't matter how it happened."
Sabine shrugged. "I know you don't care, but I'm sure some do," she said. "Not that I'm agreeing with them. Just saying." She shrugged again and found a few more twigs to throw into the fire.
"Well then stop listening to them," Logan retorted. He pulled her closer. "They don't matter."
Sabine snorted quietly but didn't argue, instead settling down next to him again. "Not going to go off on a revenge mission in the middle of the night now are you?"
“Won’t need to,” Logan said, just a tad too evenly. “Chuck will deal with ‘em once we get back. Maybe even while we’re gone.”
Sabine couldn't even argue with that, because she had no control over Charles. So she just sighed and settled in there. "We'll see when we get back what happened," she murmured.
Logan just made a soft noise at that and pulled her closer.
"Don't think about it, for now," he said. |
"You're going to try to wrap me in a plastic bubble and protect me from everything, aren't you?" Sabine grumbled half-heartedly, curling into him.
“Gonna let me?” Logan replied, just holding her.
"Probably not entirely," Sabine said after a moment. "But I probably won't object quite as strenuously."
"Good enough for me," Logan said, holding her close and moving so they were both settled in comfortably.
Sabine huffed quietly but settled in with him happily enough for now.
Logan pulled her close and let her get comfortable.
Elsewhere, Cameron was settling in at the Tower. She'd gotten some of her things from the mansion and had taken over a room near Tony's. Now she was settled on the couch in the main room, a tablet on her lap as she looked at the images from her latest ultrasound. |
