"Hey!" Cameron called from the kitchen. She leaned around the doorway and grinned. "Just in time, I'm making some tea. Want some?"
"Please," Sabine said with a grin, heading into the kitchen. "This week was crazy, it was almost not worth it." She let out a little sigh of relief as she sank into a kitchen chair.
"That bad?" Cameron asked as she got out a teapot and a tin of tea. She set the water to boil and then got down a pair of mugs, handing one to Sabine.
"Yes. Yes it was. It seems like everything went wrong before Pepper got on the plane, it was just a train wreck." Sabine sighed.
"Well, it's the weekend," Cameron said as she made the tea. "Most of the adults are off in DC taking care of some political thing, so I have to be a person in charge this weekend. You can be an adult with me."
"I can do that," Sabine said. "I can be an adult, I do adult really well. It's not like the kids are a problem." She grinned. "Who else did they leave behind?"
"Logan and I are the designated adults for the weekend," Cameron said. "And I think a lot of the kids actually went home this weekend to their parents, so it's not like there are a whole lot of them here to begin with."
"You and Logan, huh?" Sabine shrugged. "Should be interesting. We'll see how it goes." She accepted her tea gratefully, just inhaling for several moments, because she needed the few moments of calm.
"Are you surprised Logan stayed behind?" Cameron asked, raising an eyebrow. "Could you imagine him around the people in DC?"
"I'm not surprised, I'm just surprised they didn't leave anyone else. Normally they like to have a few adults around, not just a couple." Sabine shrugged. Having Logan around definitely didn't bother her, and she knew exactly how terrible an idea it was to take him to DC.
"Like I said, not the normal number of kids around, either," Cameron said. "Two adults seems to be enough this time around. And I think Tony's been making noises about dropping in, though that's never really a reliable thing."
"Tony is not reliable," Sabine said, her voice very dry. "But we'll see what happens. It'll be fun to watch, anyway."
"This is true," Cameron agreed, nodding. She grinned. "We might be able to put a bug in Logan's ear that Tony might need a round or two of physical training."
"Oh god yes. Yes please." Sabine absolutely lit up at that, because she had worked with Tony that week, and he'd been even more of a nuisance than normal because Pepper was going away.
"I'll see if I can find a way to mention it," Cameron said, grinning. "At least, if Tony even shows up."
"If he does." Sabine grinned. She kind of hoped he did show up now, if only for her own personal entertainment of watching him get his ass kicked.
"Well, regardless, we still need to get you settled in," Cameron said. "Once you're done with your tea, we can head upstairs."
"Awesome." Sabine grinned but took her time finishing her tea anyway. She had plenty of time left, after all.
Cameron stretched a bit as she finished her own tea. It was nice to have the mansion so quiet, she had to admit. It wasn't often they got so much peace.
Sabine also relaxed in the quiet of the mansion. Quiet was good, after all.
Although it wasn't quiet once Tony arrived the next afternoon. |
Cameron knew the instant Tony arrived. It wasn't hard to notice; Tony came in with all of his usual fanfare.
"Hi, Tony," she commented as he swept through the living room. |
"Pretty quiet here today," Tony said, glancing around. "All the kids off on a field trip or something?"
"Bunch of them went home for the weekend," Cameron replied. "The Professor and some of the other adults are in DC."
"Oh, right, thing this weekend," Tony said with a nod. "I remember." He grinned. "So you're minding the house and the few kids left. Nice."
"Logan's home too," Cameron replied. She smirked a little. "He's the one actually minding the kids."
