While raising the minimum wage sounds nice, it actually wouldn't do much good (unfortunately). We talked about it in my Econ classes, and inflation will go up as the minimum wage goes up. People would make more money sure, but they'd have to spend more money to buy the same goods and services. Minimum wage is also designed for people who are in intermediate level positions, such as high schoolers and what not. It's designed to encourage people to move up the ladder, take on more responsibilities, and make more money.

First of all- What do you mean by "handouts"? Second of all- That doesn't sound mean, that honestly just sounds ignorant. What does language have to do with anything? Its not "English-speakers" tax money that funds the service, its tax payer's money that funds the services. There are plenty of ethnic communities that exist within the United States, where many people primarily speak another language, run businesses, and pay taxes. And you're saying you want to screen them and deny them welfare if they should fall on hard times because they can't speak English? Sorry, but that's fucking bullshit.

At least on a general basis. Things do need to change within law enforcement. However, despite the bad cops there are a large majority of good cops. Yes LAPD probably needs to be reformed as do several other very large departments, but not all of them are corrupt. The media has turned law enforcement into an "us vs them" mentality now because LEO cannot even walk the street without getting harassed which is only making the situation worse. I know a lot of really great deputies that are seriously so worn down because of all of this that they are slowly starting to just not care. That's how you create a bad cop. Their job is hard the public and the media doesn't need to make it harder. I understand that there are plenty of areas it needs to improve. Body cams and mics would be fantastic. Dash cameras on every vehicle would be great. Departments aren't getting the money for that sort of shit though. I shouldn't have to fear going to work because I happen to wear a uniform. People literally follow us to our homes, leave threatening notes on our cars, scream at us as we are walking down the street. Im not even a deputy, but because I wear the uniform I get the flack. People don't do their research before they throw hate. ANYWAYS blahblahblah people are lame. Thats the real moral of the story. ALL PEOPLES. |

The media isn't giving a fair representation of the scope of the problem. I feel bad for the police officers who are only doing their job, but I'm also glad that its getting this much attention because I hope that this means that law enforcement will get some reforms so that we can feel safe around the good cops and weed out the bad cops.
As far as welfare goes- What language you speak is no indication of whether you deserve "handouts" or not because language is no indication of what job you hold, how hard you work, or what you've contributed to society. As long as they're doing their best to put something in, if they fall on hard times, they should be able to take something out. English or no English has nothing to do with it. It should never have something to do with it. Not to mention that its not only illegal immigrants who get paid under the table. For example, I know of students who get paid under the table so that it doesn't go on their financial aid documents so that they can get more financial aid. So its definitely unfair to look down on illegal immigrants for having under the table jobs when they're certainly not the only ones.
I also think its unfair to crack down so heavily on "illegal" immigrants when our immigration system is in complete shambles. A legal immigration is almost impossible. And if you can afford to pay thousands upon thousands of dollars for an immigration lawyer, you still have to wait months into months into years for your documents to be processed. So I absolutely call bullshit on screening our welfare recipients, especially if the qualifier is going to be something as stupid as language. I'm not going to blame the people when the system is so pathetically flawed. People don't do this because they want to cheat the system and avoid their taxes. They do this because the government has made it literally impossible for them to get their status approved or renewed. And that's a reflection of how pathetic our immigration system is, not of how these people don't deserve help.
