Colbie nodded. "He does. We can disobey again if we have to." She pulled Maya close, looking her over for a moment. "Besides, it may be beneficial, to see what you are lacking."
|
Maya hesitated, and then nodded.
"Okay," she said. "It's best for the baby." Setting her book down, she got up from the couch and straightened her tee. It was a bit snug around her belly, and she almost wanted to go find a sweat shirt, but she didn't. If everyone was going to find out anyway, there was no point in hiding it. |
Colbie led the way back over to Bucky, staying a bit in front of Maya. "We are ready," she told Bucky.
|
Bucky blinked and did a double-take when he saw Maya. That was definitely new.
"Yeah," he said, a bit distracted. "Yeah, sure, come on." He gestured for them to follow him, though he kept glancing at Maya and, more importantly, her belly. Maya nibbled her lip a little, but didn't cower behind Colbie as they walked. Finally, they got down to where Bruce was waiting, and Bucky gestured for them to go inside. |
Colbie glowered at everyone in the room. Bruce blinked at the fairly obvious belly on Maya.
"Ah, hello." Bruce glanced between the two. Colbie stepped forward to volunteer to go first. She was tense but she didn't make a move against Bruce. Bruce nodded and started to gather blood, having Jarvis run the scans. |
Maya hung back, letting Colbie go first. She self-consciously touched her belly a few times before crossing her arms.
As soon as the girls were safely with Bruce, Bucky went to find Steve. "Stevie, you're not going to believe this," he said when he found his friend. |
"Really?" Steve raised an eyebrow at him. "Try me."
|
"One of the girls is--" Bucky searched for a delicate enough way to say it. "--In the family way. Been hiding it all this time."
|
Steve looked at him for a moment. "Seriously?" he asked, because that was just a new level of low for Hydra.
|
Bucky nodded.
"Saw her myself," he said. "Couldn't believe what I was seeing." |
Steve groaned, rubbing his hand over his face.
"Alright," he said. "Alright. We can deal with this. We'll need supplies." |
Bucky nodded.
"The girls are with Banner right now," he said. "Getting physicals done. So we've got at least a little time to think before they're done." |
"Great." Steve sighed. "Well, we can always find out what she wants to do. If she wants to keep it or..." He trailed off with an uncomfortable shrug.
|
The thought made Bucky uncomfortable as well, and he gave the same sort of shrug. This was way outside anything he was equipped to deal with.
Meanwhile, Bruce had finally finished with Colbie, and it was Maya's turn. Maya was tense as she sat down in front of him and held out her arm. |
Colbie hovered right next to Maya's shoulder, clearly uncomfortable as well.
"Relax," Bruce told them both. "I'm not doing anything different for you." Yet. Fortunately Jarvis could run all the scans they needed non-invasively. |
Maya was still tense.
"I need to know if everything is going well with the child," she said quietly. |
"We'll know soon," Bruce told her. "Jarvis is running the scans, and I'll get the blood work done. If I had to guess, you're probably not getting enough nutrients, but nothing major."
|
"I've been trying," Maya said softly, one hand on her belly. "I've been doing everything I can. The baby just needs so much..."
|
Bruce nodded. "We can figure out what you need and the easiest way for you to get it," he said. "Maybe an extra vitamin a day, or easier foods for the two of you to digest."
|
"It's hard to keep much of anything down," Maya admitted. She looked down at her belly. "Baby's picky."
"Pardon the interruption," Jarvis said gently, "but the scan is complete, Doctor Banner. I've taken the liberty of uploading the results to your tablet." |
Bruce looked over the results quickly and nodded to himself. "We'll figure something out," he said, setting the vials of blood down. "From this, everything looks normal, nothing to be worried about."
Colbie relaxed at that, just a little. |
Maya gave a sigh of relief at that, and smiled.
"Good," she said. "That's good." She was quiet for a moment, and then gave Bruce a shy, hopeful look. "I've-- been doing research, when I can," she said. "I read about ultrasounds? To see the baby?" |
Bruce smiled and tapped on the tablet, bringing up the imaging scans Jarvis had done, and showing them to Maya.
"There he is. And no, I don't know if he's a he yet." |
Maya gasped softly as she took the tablet. The image was surprisingly clear, much better than the sample images she'd seen in her research.
"Oh..." she cooed, watching it. The timestamp in the corner of the image kept ticking, and the image itself moved occasionally. "It's moving! Colbie, look!" She handed the tablet to her partner. |
Colbie looked briefly surprised. "It's a live feed," she murmured, looking at the image. "Fascinating."
