Astrology
Hey everyone~
So as of late, I've been very into astrology. One of my close friends got really into it and then taught me, in depth, about the topic. I've come to find out that astrology is so much more complex than what I thought! I had no idea about how you have a sign for every aspect of your life, basically, not just your Sun sign you go off of for your actual birthday. I was just curious if anyone else has gotten into the whole astrology fad recently. If you want to find out your full natal chart, I highly recommend going onto cafeastrology.com!! & if anyone's curious I have my Sun in Libra, Moon in Scorpio, and Capricorn Rising/Ascendent |
SO. AM. I. I used to have a thread in this forum about it, but it died. Made it kinda far, though. I've learned a lot since I made that one! @[email protected] Still got things I'm trying to understand.
/I tried to explain Suns and Moons and Risings and charts there /AND I FAILED /I'M TOO INFORMATIONY FOR GOOD EXPLANATIONS |
I TRy TO EXPLAIN IT TO MY FRIENDS AND THEY JUST DONT GET IT I FEEL SO HARD
either that, or people just aren't that interested. I don't really understand that though, I find it so interesting. I find it so easy to relate to and I've found out reasons why I might be the way I am! Like, I don't understand how that couldnt not?? be at least a little bit interesting??? |
It's so difficult to explain without a visual, for one thing.
|
AGReed! May I ask what your sign is?
|
Cancer Sun, Aries Moon, Libra Rising. I don't feel very Cancery, but I totally have the sentimental part.
|
I am a Gemini (but also a cusp baby so I have some Cancer tendencies, too) and it fits me pretty dang well. I like to joke that being a Gemini is why I have ADD :P
I looked at that site you posted, but think I'll have to wait until I'm feeling more clear-headed to really read all of that. Because, wow, huge wall of information! And I'm a bit spacey at the moment. |
I was way into astrology when I was in high school, had a falling out with it during college, and am getting back into it now. I got The Only Astrology Book You'll Ever Need and have been reading deeper into my natal chart lately and enjoying that.
I have a strongly magical-spiritual side and a strongly scientific empirical side, and they feel very conflicted about astrology, haha, but that's okay. I don't know enough about the history and development of astrology and how the modern system works, and how that relates to the actual physicality of the planets. For example, each of the 12 signs are evenly divided into the calendar year, but the actual constellations in the sky are all different sizes, so the passage of the sun through the signs is totally uneven. I'm not sure how astrologers reconcile those kinds of things, but I would like to learn more about that. By the way, I am Taurus sun, Scorpio moon, and Taurus rising. [lol] I'm totally happy to talk about my other planets too if ya'll are interested. :) |
@Amane most of my best friends are Cancers ahh!!
@Sarahbelle I'm on the Libra-Scorpio cusp! I can see where I could have Scorpio qualities but I think it's also because I have Scorpio in my moon @Chexala my friend has that book! I should probably ask to borrow it. And yeah I'm definitely interested, I should probably just post my whole birth chart. |
heavenoid - Yeah, I don't know much about astrology, but I do know that if you are born on the cusp of a star sign that you'll also have a few traits of the other. I did finally read all of that natal profile thing, and it was interesting. It did say that there might be some contradictory things that come up just because it's done by computer automatically instead of having someone sit there and decide what outweighs what, and the bits that seemed most contradictory were wrong indeed, haha... but everything else felt spot on! My moon is in Sagittarius, btw, so I learned since reading :)
I also love that some of my other little things totally validate my tendency to be verbose :P lol. Apparently I have ''the gift of gab''.... no, I had no idea XD LOL |
This is my full chart according to the interwebz machines:
http://i.imgur.com/EMfz5h7.gif I find it interesting that I don't have a single fire sign anywhere. My element breakdown is 1/2 earth, 1/4 water, and 1/4 air. Edit: no wait, just noticed that IC down in Leo. I have no idea what that is. |
Your IC (Imum Coeli) is the impression you got of the world in your earliest years. Therefore, it mostly depends on how your family treated you. It's who you think you need to be in life. The MC (Midheaven) across from it is who you want to be seen as.
|
Holy shit. IC in Leo, MC in Aquarius. That is so fucking on point for me. :O
*goes to do more research* |
Wait... oh wow, this is making a lot of sense! I feel like I must read more about what all the terms and things mean. So my MC is also Gemini... and... yeah... lol XD so I'll probably pick this up for awhile and then put it down for awhile yet again, lol XD
|
My IC is Capricorn, so my MC is Cancer. *high fives Sarahbelle* And it's very true.
|
heres my chart! p water dominant
also, @Chexala we have the same moon yasss you must have hella intense emotions and be intuitive, thats how it is for me at least! http://i1337.photobucket.com/albums/...psznodomyv.jpg |
I'm like, Water > Earth ≈ Fire > barely there Air. Half of my Water stuff is in Cancer. Yet I don't feel very Cancery. [huh]
I poke around on astrology sites and find things that make me glad I don't get confused easily. Astrology is so complex. Like, if you ever get all settled and knowledgeable and bored with what you know, look for something else. There's something. |
@heavenoid, oh man that Scorpio moon, the struggle is real. I've got this mild-mannered earthy exterior from all that Taurus stuff, but inside it's all deep Scorpio waters of intense feels. And the tiny little Leo fire-heart down at the very bottom, from my IC. I've always known about my fire-heart, but had no idea where it was coming from until yesterday.
@Amane, I'm definitely finding that astrology is complex. I hardly scratched the surface when I was into it in high school. This time around, I've been learning about my planets so far, and now I'm getting into all the aspects. I gotta start making a chart to go with my chart. [lol] |
And what would that chart to go with your chart show you?
|
I'm so mixed up about astrology! I don't see how it could possibly actually influence people's personalities, and yet... everyone I meet matches their sun sign so crazy well, myself included. Even people who don't know what kind of traits are associated with their sign (and thus couldn't be subconsciously influenced, like acting that way because they think they should).
And, by the way, I'm a Cancer. And yes, I'm a huge emotional baby with big nurturing and timid streaks. |
Cherry - I once heard some semi-scientific reasoning behind it (well.. probably more like pseudo-science), but it was a few years ago, so I'm probably remembering a little incorrectly. Anyway, the idea was that the universe is filled with waves, I can't remember if they were talking about electromagnetic waves or something else... I think it was electromagnetic waves, though. Like, the sun puts them out (totally normal science), and then the theory goes that alignment of the sun with the earth and the other planets, the gravitational fields of the planets all affect the waves to some degree, so depending how everything is aligned, the waves will be slightly different. Supposedly, being in liquid in the womb protects us mostly from these waves, but when we are born, we are pretty much marked by the specific frequency that is out there in the waves at the moment of our birth. And... voila... astrology? Or... something to that effect.
|
Cherry, I felt the same way when I learned how astrology predicts how you'll be raised and what you'll learn in life.
I was thinking about whether the planets match their meaning in astrology a few days ago, and… some of them totally do‼ |
Yeah... I wonder if there is some sound scientific reasoning to it. I mean, it would be nothing more than an influence - some people don't suit their signs at all, some only suit them partly, your experiences are much more likely to shape your personality, etc. but... man! Just a minute ago I was thinking about how my boyfriend and I's differences complement each other so well, then I googled up a profile of Cancer/Capricorn relationships and... it said everything I was thinking! [lol]
|
Yes, I want to know what science has to say. Some astrologers want astrology to be officially considered a science.
Cancer and Capricorn are directly across from each other, so their differences totally complement each other. It's funny you thought that before reading anything. I used to think astrology was just like, "You are destined to act this way because you have this planet in this sign." You just have that kind of energy in you, and it's going to come out no matter what. I found out it's more like, "You have this planet in this sign, so you are destined to have experiences that will lead you to act this way, whether you consciously make the choice to or not." Some of the planets move so slowly that that means an entire generation is going to ultimately have the same thing happen to them. When you assume that's true, for your entire life to be set in stone and cause you to be born at a specific time… what is this world? What are we? We all wanna say "free will" when it comes to fate vs. free will because you do you, be who you wanna be, et cetera, but as I get more into astrology, I believe more and more in fate. |
'Free Will' is also severely limited by the circumstances that we're born into. Depending on where we're born, what era, what family we're born into (in terms of status, wealth, parents occupations, religion, and their personalities all put together) - that in itself has a lot to say about who we are and what choices we will make. Then as you go through life, those initial factors end up putting you in certain situations and leaning you towards choosing one path over another... plus forces outside of your control such as national and global happenings (economies and wars and such) all heavily influence your decisions and limit the amount of options you have to begin with.
At the end of the day, you do have some choice, but so much is simple cause and effect that shapes who you are and how you will choose that whether or not 'fate' is planned, you truly are not as free as you initially thought. |
