Kendra was quiet as she processed that. She looked down at her hands, which were trembling.
"We're too dangerous," she whispered after a moment. |
"No," Pietro said with a little shrug. "You need time to adapt. I know how difficult it is. Staying with us is best for now, I believe."
"We shouldn't," Kendra replied, shaking her head. "No. Who knows what they did to us? Who knows what might happen now? It's too dangerous."
"We know." Pietro's smile was grim. "They did something similar to us. You'll be safe here."
Finally, the entire situation just overwhelmed her and Kendra bit her lip as tears began to roll down her cheeks. Some of her hair began to stand on end as static built up on her again.
Pietro wavered for a few moments. He wasn't really good with crying girls, especially not pretty ones.
"Hey, no, don't do that," he murmured, going over to her. "Easy, take a deep breath for me, okay? You're far too pretty to be crying." See? Terrible. |
Pietro's efforts didn't work. Kendra just put her head on her arms and kept crying.
Wanda sighed and gave her brother something of a Look. Obviously, he had no idea how to handle women. |
Pietro shrugged. He knew that, he even warned people of that. He just motioned to Wanda to help.
Wanda rolled her eyes at him, and went over to Kendra.
"It will be okay," she murmured, putting her arm around Kendra's shoulders. Immediately, some of her hair began to stand up, but she ignored it. "Don't touch me," Kendra whispered. "I could hurt you." |
"You won't," Wanda said with certainty. She knew that, for right now at least. "You won't hurt either of us." She didn't release Kendra, either.
"How do you know?" Kendra whispered. She didn't shrug away from the touch, though.
"That's what I do," Wanda murmured. "I know things. Or at least the probability of things."
"You can't tell me that the chances of me not hurting someone are good," Kendra murmured.
"If we're talking about anyone, no, I can't guarantee anything, there are far too many variables involved," Wanda murmured. "But us? Pietro and I? You won't."
"Electricity is unpredictable," Kendra murmured, resting her forehead on Wanda's shoulder.
"But for now, you're fine," Wanda murmured. "You will learn to control it, I know you will. You just need a bit of time."
"I can't even stop the static," Kendra mumbled. She felt around half-heartedly for the metal bar from before.
"You'll learn," Wanda assured her. "You've got time. You needn't worry just yet."
"I always worry about the lightning," Kendra murmured. "Ever since I first got it. And now it's worse."
"And you will learn," Wanda told her. "You learned before, did you not? You will again. It will take time, but all things do."
Kendra just hummed flatly, but didn't outright protest. She was too tired, and she didn't want to be left alone yet.
Wanda was content to sit there with her as long as she needed. Pietro hovered nearby, though he did at least sit to watch them both.
Kendra didn't move for a while, but she eventually shifted enough so Wanda could leave. She jumped when she accidentally brushed against a bit of plastic and a spark snapped at her skin. Two more sparks promptly crackled and fizzled.
Wanda gave her a bit of room, going instead to go make some food for them all and give the girls a bit to settle in.
Kendra went and settled back in next to her sister, keeping an eye on her. Bianca could wake up at any time, and Kendra wanted to be there for her.
