Matt snorted softly.
"I'm sure you could find an opening in one somewhere, if you want," he pointed out. |
Bianca's mood dropped again. "Maybe," she muttered. "Only if anyone will take me." She grimaced and chopped a little more aggressively.
"Why wouldn't they?" Matt asked. Of course, he knew why, but it was easier to just play dumb for now. "You seem like a nice enough person, and you're obviously skilled."
"People are biased," Bianca said after a moment. "For all sorts of reasons." She had literally no idea where he, or Foggy for that matter, stood on mutant rights, so she wasn't about to blurt out to him that she was one. She liked not sleeping outside, thanks. "Where are the plates?"
"You're telling me," Matt replied with a bit of a wry grin. "The city isn't exactly optimized for the blind, either." He tilted his head a bit. "Plates are up to your left, bottom shelf, on the right side. Bowls are left of the plates, glasses the next shelf up next to the mugs."
"Great." Bianca got down everything they'd need, giving the veggies a few more minutes to cook.
"Smells good," Matt commented as he heard her getting down the plates and such. "Need a hand with anything?"
"I'm good. It'll be done in just a minute." Bianca got out cups, too. "Water or other?"
"Water is fine," Matt replied. "Though I think I still have some beer and soda in he fridge, you're welcome to it."
"Maybe later." Bianca set a glass in front of him. "I'm not serving you though."
"I wouldn't expect you to," Matt said, going over and taking a plate after a moment of feeling around on the counter for it.
Bianca nodded and made sure he had food before she got her own food, settling in to eat quietly. She was slowly starting to crash after the day she'd had.
Matt just let her settle and get comfortable.
"Sorry I don't have cable or anything," he said as he started on his dinner. "But one of the neighbors has wireless, and there's no password on it, if you want to be on your phone or anything." |
"I think I can entertain myself alright," Bianca said, though she was careful not to snap at him. "My sister and I don't have cable, we just have Netflix."
"Alright," Matt said. "Then feel free to settle in. It seems like it's been a ridiculously long day for you, you deserve some rest."
"Considering today actually started at about 5 pm yesterday, yeah." Bianca yawned and then blushed a bit. "Sorry."
"Trust me, I know how a long day feels," Matt said, waving a hand. "Don't feel bad about it, and go ahead and get some rest."
"Alright." Bianca trudged over to the couch and got comfortable. It didn't take her long to drop off to sleep.
Matt waited until he was sure she was asleep before going out onto the fire escape to take a listen at the city. Luckily, there didn't seem to be much going on that night which, to be honest, he was grateful for. He still ached a bit from the last time he was out.
By the time a few days had passed, Bianca had gotten fairly comfortable with Matt. She still hadn't told him the full circumstances of her sudden appearance, but so far he hadn't pushed too much.
Foggy, on the other hand, had pushed. But he was too cute to kill, luckily for him. Pietro was also used to their new visitor, although he couldn't help himself from teasing her. Which is why he grinned from his spot in the living room when she emerged that morning. "Finally awake, I see," he teased. |
Matt was okay with Bianca on his couch for a few days. He mostly waited until she was asleep to go out on patrol, though, and made sure to be back before dawn. He couldn't afford to have her find him out.
Foggy, on the other hand, kept Bianca amused while she tagged along at the office. "Shut up," Kendra muttered as she tried to get the static out of her hair. It wasn't working well. |
Bianca looked between the two as they bickered over a case.
"You two are such a married couple right now." "Need a hand?" Pietro grinned. "Or a lightning rod, perhaps?" |
"We are not a married couple," Foggy said without missing a beat.
"Although legally, we could be, if we wanted," Matt added smoothly. "Not the point," Foggy retorted. "They are, aren't they?" Karen asked, still grinning. "Why, volunteering?" Kendra groused, trying to gather all of the tiny sparks into her hands. |
"They really are," Bianca said, smiling. "They're adorable." She watched Foggy splutter over that, which had been her intention, and she grinned impishly.
"Sure," Pietro said with a grin. "Why not? Could be fun." He bounced a little on the balls of his feet. |
"They're always like this, too," Karen said, grinning. "It's really fun to listen to, when the coffee machine is working."
"Get a little closer and I'll oblige," Kendra snarked, some sparks crackling around her fingers. |
