Lori didn't get much sleep and as such was a grouch the next morning slamming pots and pans around as she grumbled.
Gemini was woken up by the sound of banging. She walked out to the kitchen to see what was going on. "Miss Lori? What's wrong?" She asked, seeing the woman upset.
"I didn't get much sleep. Sorry I woke you forgot you where there." Lori smiled tiredly at her. "Sit and relax I was just making breakfast."
Instead of sitting down, Gemini came around to see if she could help at all. "Did something bad happen last night?" She asked, thinking about the woman's mood the night before.
"There's a guy out there killing Alchemists." Lori sighed stopping her hand from shaking. "Eat and I'll explain." she sat down and explained all she knew about Scar.
Gemini sat down obediently and started eating. As she listened, a chill ran down her spine. "That's terrible." She said when Lori finished. "Are Ed and Al okay? You know they're not going to stay in and keep safe, right?"
"I know they have protection with them." Lori sighed and ran a hand threw her hair blinking as her phone ran. "Oh what know?" she picked up and immediately dropped the phone knees buckling as tears rolled down her face.
Gemini jumped up and ran over to her. "Miss Lori? What's wrong?!" She asked, concerned and frightened. She picked the phone up off the floor and put it to her ear. "H-hello?"
Lori pulled the phone away gentle hanging up. She took a breath chocking on her words "Hughes is dead." She whispered.
Gemini stared at her. She didn't answer. Finally, after a full minute of silence, she started shaking. "W-what...? Why? That's not...that can't be true. It can't." Tears flowed freely down her cheeks. "It can't!"
Lori looked away hands clenching the table. "I don't know why. I just know that he's gone." She sat down unable to hold herself up. "This just keeps getting worse." She sighed. "Don't tell the boys yet they need to focus on there goal and they'll just beat themselves up when they find out."
Gemini slowly sat down, sniffling now and holding up her knees. "I w-won't...l-let them kn-know...I-I'll b-be good." She sniffled miserably. "I th-think I should leave from here." She added a bit more clearly. "First my parents, and now mister Hughes...people around me keep dying. I'm bad luck. I don't want that to happen to you."
"No it's not your fault any more then it's the boys Hughes knew what he was doing." Lori hugged the girl tight. "This stuff happens in are line of work. I have to get to Roy he'll be devastated and we'll need to plan the funeral." she ran a hand threw her hair then grimaced. "that poor little girl."
Gemini sniffled again, trying not to cry. "I'm sorry. I just..." She shook her head, not knowing what else to say. "Oh, poor little girl. Can...can I go see them?" She asked. "I want to tell them sorry, and give that little girl a hug...like I needed a hug when I lost my parents. She'll need lots of hugs."
"Not just know Roy has to tell them and his wife will need to..." Lori trailed off her brain refusing to think that way about Hughes.
"Okay. I'll wait." Gemini said, wrapping her arms around herself. "I'm gonna go to my room." She said vaguely, before drifting off into the room assigned to her.
Lori ran a hand threw her hair it was a bad habit she had when she was stressed. She let the girl be but she finished getting ready for the morning. "Gemini...I have to head to work they'll need all hands on deck. Do you want to come with?"
Gemini had been staring absently out her window. Startled out of her thoughts, she turned to Lori. "Yeah. I should start work as soon as possible. It'll help distract me, anyways." She said, forcing a smile.
"If your sure." Lori lead the way noticing the somber look on everyone's face. She entered Roy's office greeting the others who nodded back, they all stood waiting for Roy who hadn't shown up yet.
Mustang arrived shortly after that. He ignored the mournful whispers of coworkers, keeping his face an emotionless mask. Seeing that Gemini was wearing the same mask, he figured she must have heard. "We'll have to find a few entry-level jobs for you to do. Lori, I'll leave you in charge of that."
"Alright sir." Lori frowned a little then sighed. "You come here." she pulled him to a closet and pulled him into a tight hug. "It's alright Roy."
For a moment, Mustang didn't say anything. Then, slowly, he hugged her back. "No, it's not alright." He said. His voice sounded close to tears, but he wouldn't cry. "I'll find the one who did this. No matter what."
"It's not your fault Roy, Hughes knew what he was doing. It's a risk we all take to make this country better." Lori was trying to not cry as well she had to be tuff to help Gemini and Roy threw this.
Roy pulled away, looking Lori directly in the eye. "You don't have to act so tough with me, Lori. It's okay to be upset. I won't tell anyone." He said gently.
"I could say the same thing about you." Lori buried her head in his chest taking deep breaths. "Meh."
