Mustang waved as they left, a little confused. After a moment, he shrugged and walked away.
Gemini hurried to keep up. "Slow down, short legs here!" She gasped. "Are you okay?" |
"fine." Lori sighed entering the building. "Pick what you like I'll pay for it and you can pay me when you get your first check."
Gemini nodded, slightly out of breath. "Thank you, miss Lori. I...I really appreciate how nice you've been to me." She said.
"It's my pleasure. In exchange you stay silent about me liking Roy." Lori held the shoes just out of her reach. "Deal?"
Gemini scowled. "That's insulting. I said already I wouldn't tell anyone. I don't take bribes." She said, not reaching for the shoes. "If that's the only reason you're doing this for me, then we're done here."
"You really promise not to tell?" Lori frowned handing her the shoes. "Usually the others want something for there silence." she was a slight pink color. "Sorry I just..."she sighed. "I think I love him but he's my boss and I don't think he feels the same way...It's rather complicated but as long as you really don't want something for your silence."
"My parents didn't live long through my life, but while they were alive they raised me right. I keep my promises, and I don't take bribes." Gemini said, taking the shoes. She smiled. "Secrets are always safe with me."
Lori smiled "I think you and I are going to be best friends." she grinned and lopped her arm threw hers. "To the cloths shop." she lead the then let go. "I release you to the cloths. Get whatever you want don't look at the price tag." she smiled at her.
Gemini smiled. It felt nice to have a friend, especially one who was a girl like her. "Okay!" She said, dashing off into the racks of the store. She returned several minutes later with a small stack of clothes. They were all simple, cheap and none of them matched. It was obvious she had never shopped for herself before.
Lori blinked then laughed. "Let's save those." She found stuff that matched and fit the girl getting a large stack of clothes. "There." She smiled then paused on there way to the counter staring at a dress it was red with a v cut neck but it was also work appropriate. She sighed and turned her back on it.
Gemini watched Lori shop with an expression of wonder. She noticed the woman consider the dress. "You should get it." She said. "It would look great on you. I'll even pay for it with my first check." She offered brightly.
"Oh no I couldn't." Lori blushed at the compliment. "We have a dress code and." She realized she was making excuses and sighed. "Let's just get your stuff." She grumbled placing the pile before the poor cashier.
Gemini shrugged and made a mental note of where the store was. If Lori wouldn't get the dress for herself, Gemini would come back later and get it as a present for her.
Lori lead her back to her apartment building. "Here we are." She opened the door to her apartment. "I'll have to make extra keys for you." She mused walking into the neat apartment. There were pictures of her with the team here and there along with ones of her parents and older friends. "It's not much but I'm not freezing." She smirked. "That will be your room...once I get a mattress of course." She grimaced. "In fact. Why don't you settle in while I get the bed?"
Gemini walked into the apartment and looked around in wonder. "Not much? This is bigger than two of my old apartment!" She said. Going to the room that would be hers, she smiled brightly. "I get a bed? Awesome!" She put down the bags of clothes she had been carrying and went to look our her window. "I can see everything from here! I had the underground apartment back where I used to live." It explained why she was so pale, even coming from a desert town.
"Well in joy it to your hearts content. I'll be back in an hour or so." Lori grabbed her eyes and wondered out buying the girl a twin sized bed humming softly. She waved to the boys who where investigating the leads to the philosophers stone.
While Lori was gone, Gemini sat and looked out the window, enjoying the view. When she got tired of this, she practiced her alchemy for a while.
Lori returned from the store dragging the mattress in with her. "Look what I found. Sorry I'm late had to help out the boys.'' she smiled at her.
Gemini jumped up to help with the mattress. "Oh, that's okay. I'm used to being alone." She said cheerfully.
Lori hugged her gentle shivering a little. "I'm sorry I left you." she mumbled trying to push the memories from the night away.
Gemini blinked, a little confused. "It's okay, really. I'm just happy knowing someone's coming back for me. Are you okay?" She asked the older woman.
"Yeah, I just...you are not to go out alone." Lori pulled away staring into her eyes. "have Hughes, Armstrong, Roy or me with you understand?"
Starting to get a little worried, Gemini nodded. "Okay, I promise." She said. If there was something out there bad enough to scare Lori, she didn't want to encounter it.
"Alright." Lori let her go and set up the bed for the girl. "Goodnight Gemini.' she locked all the windows drawling the shades before double locking the front door. She sighed and went to her room falling into her bed.
Gemini settled into her bed, feeling happier than she had in a long time. She fell asleep content and comfortable.
