I love mushrooms! Shiitake are one of my faves.

Ava The Vampire 01-13-2018 04:05 AM

I don't like the texture of mushrooms. :p
They are too squishy. :x

pinkypisces 01-13-2018 07:56 PM

Well, so is oatmeal

Ava The Vampire 01-13-2018 08:34 PM

Porridge isn't squishy, it's soft. :o
I feel like there's a difference. And porridge is more of a creamy consistency while mushrooms are more like spongey.

Kirin Rosenbaum 01-13-2018 08:54 PM

I want mushrooms now...

Ava The Vampire 01-21-2018 04:33 PM

I wish I liked mushrooms. I used to like them when I was a kid,
But I just can't get over their texture... :s

My favorite frozen pizza has mushrooms on it, but instead of cooking it with mushrooms, I take the frozen pizza and pick off all the mushrooms before I put it in the oven.

monstahh` 01-22-2018 12:24 AM

I like mushrooms but they have to be really fresh and cooked lightly (mushrooms get overcooked a lot IMO) or canned.
i have no idea why i like canned mushrooms. they're just good. >_>;

Ava The Vampire 01-22-2018 01:47 AM

I wish I liked mushrooms, I really do...
I want to try those veggie "burgers" that are portobello mushrooms and they look tasty, but I HATE mushrooms...

Inzanebraned 01-22-2018 07:45 AM

It depends on how and how much a mushroom is cooked as to the texture they will have
I actually like raw mushrooms in a salad...they are not squishy when raw...actually they are kind of dry.

Canned mushrooms have a more solid texture and tend to be salty. I could eat a whole can of mushrooms by myself...a large can! Lol.

monstahh` 01-22-2018 11:47 AM

Mm, it might be the salt and the strong mushroomy flavor. [drool]
While also not being all squishy and gross. [lol]
I looove canned mushrooms on pizza, that is amazing!

As for fresh mushrooms, I usually lightly cook them in butter and garlic in a skillet, and then toss them in with something, or 'boil' them in my Strogonoff towards the end of the cooking, usually as the pasta is cooking (shh, hamburger helper is one of my weaknesses...[lol]).

Kirin Rosenbaum 01-22-2018 03:36 PM

Oh I have some baby bella mushrooms to munch on. Those might be a snack tonight with some of my homemade beet and white bean hummus. So damn tasty. Hardest part was roasting the beats.

Ava The Vampire 01-22-2018 04:10 PM

I love beets. :D
Mushrooms, I just can't get over their texture. :s

Kirin Rosenbaum 01-24-2018 04:56 AM

I made beet and white bean hummus.

Ava The Vampire 01-24-2018 06:00 PM

I bet that was tasty. :D
I love hummus. I don't know if I like white beans, but I think I could eat them in hummus. :D

I love beets, though. At Umami Burger in LA, they give you homemade pickled beets. [heart] So tasty!

I also love beet juice. Oh my gosh, my mom makes this delicious beet juice with apples, beets, kale and lemon.

Kirin Rosenbaum 01-26-2018 02:39 PM

I've been eating beets since I was little. My mom, when I was tiny, would boil them in apple juice for me.

Ava The Vampire 01-26-2018 05:39 PM

My parents didn't exactly eat healthy when I was little. :C
My first time trying a beet was when I was like 19. xD

pinkypisces 01-26-2018 06:45 PM

How appropriate that they're blood red.

Inzanebraned 01-26-2018 11:47 PM

My step-grandfather grew beets a few years while I was young.
I enjoyed peeling them after grandma would boil them...you slice off one end and pinch them and the skin slips right off!
Of course, my fingers would be dyed pink for days afterward!
The beets one gets in the grocery store and in cans don't even compare to beets fresh from the garden.
Also, my step-grandfather's daughter would take the beets and pickle then with lots of cloves and give them back to her dad as a Christmas gift along with about 6 different kinds of cookies and a couple different breads in a food box every year.
It was so hard for me to not eat up all the pickled beets!

Kirin Rosenbaum 01-27-2018 12:19 AM

I got organic ones from the grocery store, not in a can. Not to bad. And the greens were amazing.

Inzanebraned 01-27-2018 12:29 AM

We ate the greens a couple of times, but step-grandfather didn't like them and said "No more of that crap!" so we didn't have them anymore. Lol!

Ava The Vampire 01-27-2018 03:13 AM

I used to give Beans my beet greens. She was a picky eater, though, and used to only eat a little and then leave the rest. xD

I LOOOVE pickled beets! :D
I haven't had them boiled before, I mostly like to eat them raw or pickled or in juice.

Kirin Rosenbaum 01-31-2018 08:58 PM

I love roasting my beets. Makes for great hummus.

monstahh` 02-01-2018 02:34 AM

i don't think I've ever eaten any type of beets except for raw ones and that's gross.

Amane 02-01-2018 11:51 PM

Am I friends with any of the foods mentioned on this page‽
